Rolling Stone Names Lady Gaga The Queen of Pop

A photo of Lady Gaga

And you know what?  She deserves it. Lady Gaga might make my soul bleed at times, but it’s no surprise that she’s the top lady of the year. What I’m way more surprised by is the rest of the list.  Rolling Stone looked into things like album sales, YouTube hits, radio airplay, awards, and popularity on social media, and these are the top ten ladies of pop:

1. Lady GaGa
2. Taylor Swift
3. Rihanna
4. Britney Spears
5. Beyoncé
6. Katy Perry
7. Pink
8. Miley Cyrus
9. Ke$ha
10. Shakira

Is Taylor Swift still that popular? And I’m absolutely loving it, but how did Pink beat Miley and Ke$ha? And how did Shakira even make it on the list?  Do other people go to YouTube to listen to “Underneath Your Clothes” for hours on end too?

  • i can see taylor being on a top ten ladies of COUNTRY, but pop??? yah she may get played on mainstream pop stations for some reason, but i definitely would never categorize her in the same genre as lady gaga, katy perry, or ANY of the other women on this list. put her on a list with like, miranda lambert, carrie underwood, faith hill, etc…. but not beyonce and shakira.

    • Really? Is she big in Spain? Or do you mean in the Spanish-SPEAKING community? I’ll bet you she’s bigger in Colombia than she is in Spain. Spanish is someone from Spain, a European country.

  • Oh dear Emily… Shakira is HUGE in the Spanish-SPEAKING community, so no wonder she is on the list.
