Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Speaking of Christmas Miracles…

not that we were but we are now.  Four Christmases was the number one movie this weekend with $18.2M in ticket sales.  Part of this is due to the fact that there was only one other full release this week which was Punisher: War Zone which brought in $4M.  Also, Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon only released in three theaters and came up with an average of $60,049 a cinema versus Four Christmases $5,541.  So it comforts me to know that Four Christmases is number one because there was nothing else to watch instead of because Vince Vaughn’s performance has put him in Academy Award contention or something equally as horrifying.

Twilight had $13.2M in sales, Bolt came it at $9.7M and Australia at $7M.

To summarize, box office revenues are up 6% this year because ticket prices are up but attendance is down 4% because, to reiterate, Four Christmases is the only thing playing.

  • for some reason, the fact that this movie is doing well offends me personally. and makes me embarrassed for my fellow Americans.

  • I actually had to talk a friend out of going to see this this weekend. Who ARE these people I associate with?

  • I saw it, in Australia, last week. Half the people in there walked out! :O When I saw Ant Bully, no one left! 4 Holiday’s was not that bad, it was an.. “ok” movie.

Is it called four christmasses in usa? :O

  • I saw “Four Christmases” and I really enjoyed it, actually. It’s a great ensemble film. For a sense of context: I also enjoyed “Fred Claus” & “Wild West Comedy Tour,” as well as “Sweet Home Alabama.”

  • oh no Jorge. You liked Fred Claus? The movie was sooooo awful to me. Just so bad. In that case, you may like “Meet Dave,” a movie I had to turn off like 5 minutes into it.

If I have to watch family-orientated stuff, I go animated all the way. Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda were both super adorable and didn’t make me want to cut my brain out of my head with a spoon. I totally recommend them.
