Love It or Leave It: Kelly Osbourne’s Hair

A photo of Kelly Osbourne

I don’t really like Kelly Osbourne. I think she seems like kind of a bitch, and she’s definitely pretty immature. And, you know, now that I’m opening up about my feelings, I’m discovering that I actually can’t stand her. I think I’m going to add her to the list, you guys. Right after Lea Michele and Scarlett Johansson.

But this isn’t about Kelly Osbourne. No, this is about something much, much more important than that. This is about Kelly Osbourne’s raggedy ass dyed grey hair, and the hate that I feel deep inside for it.

The picture above is a photo from last night’s Golden Globes. The picture below is from last week’s People’s Choice Awards:

So she’s getting progressively lighter. I guess by next week she’ll be all white with rollers? Ugh. Get over yourself, Kelly.

In the interest of fairness, though, Kelly has explained the color. Back on Thursday, the day after the People’s Choice Awards, People asked her about her new color:

The Osbournes have never been ones to hold back their feelings, so when Kelly debuted a uniquely hued do at the People’s Choice Awardson Wednesday, mom Sharon made her opinion quite known.

“She hates it,” Kelly told reporters outside the awards at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. “This is the woman who made me who I am today and she questions it. I don’t understand it.”

Sharon had three words to describe why she isn’t a fan: “Because it’s gray!”

But Kelly’s choice of shade had purpose, she insisted. “I can’t keep bleaching my hair and I want to grow it,” she explained to PEOPLE. “So I take breaks in between. I did it a year ago. It was more of a lavender-y gray, but I went straight gray this time. I’ll change it tomorrow. I haven’t decided [to what color].”

I have a friend who bleaches her hair, and at one time her hair was the same color as Kelly’s at the People’s Choice Awards, that darker color. Everybody was like “hey girl, what’s up with the hair?” and she said that she tried to dye it a more ashy blonde color, but it turned out grey instead. She kept it for a couple of weeks, then dyed it back. And see, I don’t know anything about hair, much less bleaching, but that seems understandable. Kelly’s grey hair, at first, was understandable. Bleach is damaging, right? Sure, take a break. I get it.

But her hair from last night, that old lady mess on top of her 27-year-old head? That seems deliberate. That seems like “hey, I got attention, I want more!” hair. And I am about twenty different shades of over it.

Do any of you actually dig Kelly’s hair? Alternately, I’m sure many of you know tons more about bleaching and dying and hair than I do, so does this actually make sense? Am I being way too hard on Kelly here?

  • I absolutely love it. Have been wanting to go a grayish shade myself for ages and that darker shade is really appealing to me.

  • I love when celebs talk about hair and expect us to believe them. Her hair would not be so light without lightening of some sort.
I don’t know what her natural color is but it looks like her hair was lightened and then an ash color put over it. When it was purple it was a platinum which is purple.
The ash counteracts orange and the purple counteracts yellow. If you put them on white or really light hair you get the gray and lavender effects.

  • Well, Britney has that pink wig and that idiot Katy Perry’s hair is blue…this week…Anyway, I read in this month’s Harper’s that the shade for EVERYTHING this spring is all kinds of gray and silver; nail polish; the whole enchilada. Kelly Osborne is one ugly chick and whatever color her hair is doesn’t make her any better looking.

  • When you take a break from bleaching your hair (which after a while is crucial for the integrity of it) you do have to take a break and go darker for a while. Of course there’s always going to be that one weird transition color. Your hair is so used to having the color taken out of it, you have to give it time to take color again. However, there is no reason for it to be grandma gray! You would put in low-lights and gradually get there or simply take it down to a dark blond/light brown before going any darker. You would have to request a color like that!

  • I know nothing about dyes or bleaches.

However, I thought she looked amazing at the PCAs. I noticed the grey hair and decided it was strange and different, and maybe not intentional (?), but that it looked awesome. She’s a pretty girl, too.

The white threw me at first, both colour and style, but I decided I like it, too.

  • I kind of like the darker gray, but she’s talking a load of crap, either way. If she were taking a break from bleaching, why is it getting lighter? I’d have less of a problem with this if she’d just said she did it on purpose, because I actually think that lavender-y gray is a lovely colour.

  • I LOVE the darker grey, I don’t like the lighter grey at all. If I didn’t work at a school, my hair would be dark grey with baby pink ends. It’s super cool right now.

  • Her hair and her personality are the pits!
I see her and I think, “fat, spoiled brat.” even if she isn’t fat, she has that “fat spoiled” way about her.

I really wish they’d replace her on Fashion Police. How the hell did she even get the job???

  • You’re calling her a bitch and yet you’re acting like a complete cunt all the way through this.
