Lea Michele is Dumped from Funny Girl

Remember those Barbara Streisand comparisons that Lea Michele just loved getting so much? Well it looks like those days are over. Michele, who was being considered for the lead role in a Broadway production of Funny Girl, has lost the role to fellow actress Lauren Ambrose. Also, Funny Girl, if you’ll remember, was the Broadway play that made Barbara Streisand an international star back when it debuted in the sixties.

Still trying to be gracious, though, Lea says:

“Honestly, I’m a huge fan of Lauren’s and I can’t wait to see it. I might be in the audience singing along … I might even storm the stage.”

I completely believe all of that (especially the part about storming the stage) – with the exception of being a huge fan of Ambrose’s. Lea and her rumored diva-ness must be really licking her wounds over this one, you know?

Sorry, girl. Tough break.

  • actually the director from this new version of Funny Girl said he talked with lea michele agent and all about her playing the part, but her schedule on glee made it impossible.
try check the facts before report something just to fit your I-hate-Lea-Michele agenda.

  • lea was offered the part, but her schedule with glee made impossible for her to accept.
maybe this site should check before spread hate and start pick on lea game.

  • Does it really matter WHY she didn’t get the part? The important thing is, Lea Michele isn’t going to touch Fanny Brice any time soon.
    *Hallelujah*

  • Not casting Lea will turn out to be a huge mistake. The show will not make it on Broadway without a big name. Lauren Ambrose is a barely- remembered, supporting cast member of a show that was cancelled years ago. She is also physically wrong for the part and at 33 too old (Streisand was 22). At least Lea looks the part, is the right age and–although no one will ever surpass Barbra–has proven she can handle the difficult score.
