Congrats to Taylor Momsen, whose rock band, Pretty Reckless, has been signed to Interscope Records and management firm DAS — both HUGE names in the business with long histories of success.

“Rock singer/songwriters like Taylor don’t come around very often. Taylor is an artist with a genuine voice and a unique point of view. DAS is proud to add her to the list of superstar artists that have been managed by our company,” says David Sonenberg, President of DAS Communications.

I have to admit, I watched the video of Taylor’s band performing live last week (you can view them here) and I wasn’t especially blown away. Maybe she does better in the studio? Then again, she’s still really young, so perhaps there’s potential there that just has to be nurtured. Regardless, I’m interested to hear what comes out of her record deal. And good for her for defining her own image and participating in the songwriting process and stepping out as a creative young woman. I’m rooting for ya, Tay-Tay.

  • I am constantly having to remind myself that she’s 16 years old. SIXTEEN. Mark my words: She’s going to be destroyed. That’s just too young to be so hot and popular. Reminds me of Jemina Pearl from Be Your Own Pet, in both looks and circumstances. That group self-imploded in a downward spiral of pills, booze, and STD’s faster than you could say “Lindsay Lohan,” and I wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor goes the same way. :(

  • what? she is great, great voice, great music. i was surprised. i wish i was that hot at her age. lol

  • I think it’s funny how you like taylor swift (who can’t really sing strongly) so much, but you weren’t impressed at all by strong live vocals.

    • I didn’t mean that in a critical way, which looking back is how it sounds. It was just like an observation. I guess I find it ironic. I think it’s interesting to hear what other people’s music taste is like XD

  • I listened to her live stuff the first time you posted about her. Frankly I don’t see what the big deal is. The only good “girl” bands tend to be super underground and out of the mainstream (with the exception of people like Tori Amos). The problem is the minute Major Labels get a hold of these young girls they do what all major labels do fuck their shit up. Making them slutty, making them sing like previous pop idols, making them write songs in the same ol’ fashion about “boys” and never really letting the person (if there really is one and not just some pretty face) behind the microphone shine intellectually or lyrically. It’s just the same ol’ song and dance. I want something new… Where my girls at?
