Prince Harry Performs A Traditional Maori Haka – VIDEO

prince harry military

Does anyone else feel bad for Prince Harry? In terms of the royal family, it’s all “Princess Charlotte” this and “Prince George” that. His older brother has a beautiful wife and is second in line to the throne and Harry gets… nothing, really. Which is all pretty sad since Prince Harry is hot and all he wants is to find a nice lady and probably to be done with all this military service. Sure, he’s serving his country and he’s happy to do it, but he can’t really move on with his life until he’s done.

Anyway, while in New Zealand, Prince Harry visited the Linton Military Camp this week, where he performed a traditional Maori haka (war dance) with some fellow officers. Here’s the scoop from The AP:

He had just 20 minutes to learn the dance before performing it publicly, with his instructor Warrant Officer Brett Pene praising the royal’s efforts.

“Given the time restraints in trying to teach him, it was a bit difficult trying to learn the actions and the words, so I think he did really well,” he told reporters.

“He was sweating, we were sweating, a bit of frustration set in. He was keen, that was the main thing.”

The Maori haka is a traditional challenge, the most famous of which “Ka Mate” is regularly performed by the All Blacks rugby team.

Harry performed the New Zealand’s army’s own haka “Ngati Tumatauenga”, or “Tribe of War”, which honours fallen comrades and past campaigns.

Pene said it was “humbling” to have the prince perform the Army’s haka, given the royal visitor’s own military background which has included two tours of Afghanistan.

Oh, Harry. You can be my king any day! Except not… sexually, as that totally sounded. Anyway, let’s watch him dance, shall we?

What do you think? Would you get with Prince Harry? He’s singleeeee!

Royal Baby #2 Officially Has A Name

kate middleton charlotte

Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their second child, until now known as “Royal Baby #2″ on Saturday, and it wasn’t until today that they decided to share the name with the public. So what is our new Princess to be called? Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Charlotte was one of the bookies’ favourites over the past several weeks, so they’ll be paying out bigtime now that it’s actually confirmed. Charlotte is also the feminine form of Charles, her grandfather’s name, though who knows if they were actually thinking of that (they likely were). Elizabeth is obvious, as well, given the circumstances, as is Diana.

I love that they actually put Diana in there – lovely tribute to William’s mother. It’s a shame she never got to see her grandkids or even to meet Kate – I think they would have gotten along well, for some reason.

Anyway, congrats (again) to the happy family!

Kate Middleton Had A Natural Birth

kate middleton

It was a pretty crazy weekend, wasn’t it, guys? There was the big fight, the Kentucky Derby and the birth of a new royal baby! I watched pretty much all the coverage (not necessarily for pleasure but for work) and there was one ongoing thing that I kept thinking was how crazily smooth everything went. I mean, Kate Middleton was admitted to hospital at 6am on Saturday morning and by 8:34am, she’d given birth to the new princess. Less than 12 hours later, she was dressed immaculately with her hair and makeup done, waving with her new daughter in her arms in front of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s before heading home to Kensington Palace. I mean, that’s kinda insane, right? Well, here’s another fun fact: she likely gave birth without an epidural.

From People:

Once inside, at least two midwives – like last time led by Jacqui Dunkley-Bent – took control of the actual delivery. The midwives, familiar to Kate because they were among the team who delivered Prince George, guided and led by the consultant, Thorpe-Beeston and his colleagues, ready to jump in if there are complications.

It’s unknown if Kate had an epidural, but the ease of which she appeared to walk from the hospital, it seems unlikely that she had more than the basic nitrous oxide “gas and air” option for pain relief.

So, nothing too exciting, just simple observation, but I suppose it’s pretty impressive if you think about it. The baby was 8 lbs, 2 oz – and need I remind everyone that Kate is about 115lbs soaking wet? Then again, she’s just doing what millions of women around the world have done millions of times over and continue to do every day… and seriously, all you moms who gave birth at all, with or without epidural, you have my respect!

Now we just need to wait for the name! My money’s on Alice, though Charlotte seems to be a favourite, as well.

William And Kate Have A Baby Girl!

william-kate-baby-girl

Kate Middleton gave birth today to a healthy baby girl, huzzah! No more awful morning sickness to deal with. Now she and Prince William are parents to two children, Prince George and this new daughter, whose name is yet to be announced. Here’s what we do know, from BBC News:

The princess – who is fourth in line to the throne – was delivered at 08:34 BST on Saturday after a short labour.

The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth of the 8lbs 3oz (3.7kg) baby.

The couple emerged from the hospital to crowds of well-wishers and the world’s media. They stood on the steps briefly before heading back into the hospital to put the princess in a car seat. Prince William then drove them to Kensington Palace.

They did not speak to the media.

The duchess had been in hospital for just over 12 hours before leaving.

The baby was born less than three hours after the couple arrived at the Lindo Wing, at St Mary’s Hospital.

What a speedy delivery!

The report also adds that it may take “a few days” for the name announcement. Apparently, the top names people are betting on (and yes, people are betting on this), are Alice, followed by Charlotte, then Elizabeth, then Victoria. Diana is also a guess. Anyone want to throw their hat into the ring?

And yes, we already have photos of the newborn:

Congratulations to the royal couple!

Kate Middleton Could Be Induced Any Time Now

kate middleton

It seems like only yesterday that Clarence House was announcing that Kate Middleton and Prince William were expecting their second child. After several shitty months of insane morning sickness (and that’s putting it lightly) and several months of… nothing else, really, it seems the arrival of the second royal baby is imminent, and Kate could be induced any moment now!

“It varies but I would say it’s usually offered around 12 days,” Jane Munro, midwife and advisor at the Royal College of Midwives, tells PEOPLE. “The baby may be getting big and the placenta functions less well after that time.”

Kate’s due date was always said to be “mid- to late April”, so she’s hardly late, so chances are they’ll just wait this out. After all, as of Tuesday, she was still driving around, taking George to swim at Kensington Palace’s indoor pool. Either way, her medical team has been checking out St. Mary’s hospital in London, where Kate will give birth, and trying to make sure everything’s in order for when it all goes down.

If you think I’m joking about what a major deal this is (and you’re from America, where there’s royal family fascination, but not quite like in Britain), here’s a link to The Mirror’s LIVE COVERAGE of the days leading up to the baby’s delivery. Glad to see they weren’t taking any chances. People are literally camped out outside the hospital – media AND fans. Yikes.

Kate Middleton advocates for children’s mental health in new PSA

kate middleton

Kate Middleton has charitable causes having to do with children close to her heart, so it’s no surprise that she filmed a new PSA for Children’s Mental Health Week, which was just released this week. The PSA is in support of school-based emotional and mental health services provided by the group Place2Be.

In case you can’t watch, here’s a little of what she’s had to say.

“Both William and I have seen that many young people are struggling to cope with the impact of bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown and more,” Middleton said. “Without support, the effects of these challenges can be traumatic, leading to serious issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, and self harm.”

Mental health support is so important for all ages, but particularly should start with children. Healthy kids make healthy adults.

Kate Middleton is the Duchess of Side Eye too, I see

kate middleton prince william

As we all know, Prince William and Kate Middleton were over in New York City this past week for the first time, and what an adventure it was! They went to a basketball game, they met American royalty, Queen Beyoncé and King Jay-Z and a good time was had by all.

BUT THEN… Kate went to do some Christmas present wrapping for the children’s charity Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem, where she got to come face-to-face with some real New Yorkers who told her royal ass not to slow down but to “Keep wrapping!”

Clearly Kate didn’t take all that kindly to this, and she unleashed the side-eye of the year:

Hahaha! Frankly, I’m on Kate’s side with this one. She has to be SO NICE all the friggin’ time, 24/7/365, constantly smiling and shaking hands and playing the role of the perfectly mannered princess. She deserved the right to give side-eye there. She’s a Duchess AND she’s pregnant – plus, who is that lady talking to? I’m not even in the royal family and I’d have given the woman more than side eye if she was yelling at me like that. Point for Middleton here.

Also, because I like to give you guys more bang for your buck, here’s another tidbit: Kate clearly reads Evil Beet and saw my comment the other day about wanting to kick back in your pyjamas and watch TV and eat pizza, because she totally had a pizza party in her hotel room!

From US Weekly:

The insider tells Us the royal, who was taking a break before the St. Andrews 600th Anniversary dinner at the Met Museum, ordered “three very specific pizzas” from NYC eatery Serafina, which included “a spicy sausage pizza (with no mushroom) and a prosciutto “di Fabio” pizza (with no sliced tomatoes).”

The five-months pregnant duchess shared the delicacies with a Kensington Palace assistant, her private secretary Rebecca Deacon and hairstylist Amanda Cook-Tucker while she prepared for her evening engagement.

Huh. I mean, neither of those sound all that delicious to me – maybe the sausage one? And high five on no mushrooms. Mushrooms do not belong on pizza. The end.
