Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Liv Tyler, Scarlett Johansson, Shakira, and Mariah Carey were just some of stylist Annabel Tollman’s clients. Ms. Tollman died suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep from an apparent unseen blood clot. There is some dispute about her actual age — US Weekly, based on The Cut, reports that she was 36 — but The Cut has now corrected the article to read that she was 39, hence the asterisk in the article. Here’s more from The Cut about fashion’s up-and-comer’s surprising death:
Stylist Annabel Tollman died suddenly in her sleep from a blood clot this week in her West Village apartment, sources confirm. She was in her late thirties.* Known for dressing celebrity clients […] Tollman also worked as Interview‘s first-ever fashion director.
Born in Brussels, Tollman was raised between London and New York, and earned her degree in fashion journalism from Central St. Martins. She began dressing Scarlett Johansson after they met on a cover shoot for Interview in 2003, and left the magazine to pursue celebrity styling full-time in 2008. In 2010, she was profiled in the Times when she became a spokeswoman for eBay Fashion. At the time of her death, she was in the process of developing a Bravo reality show.
Tollman applied her personal motto, “Make a fairy tale and go and live in it,” to both life and fashion.
This story is so sad and a little terrifying. Just the thought that you could suddenly die. At least she died peacefully and happy with her life.
Here is some of Tollman’s best work. You may recognize some of these magazine covers. I remember after seeing the Amy Adams Interview cover, that Miu Miu dress was EVERYWHERE.
