[Disclaimer: Before you get mad at me for “taking sides” in any form of voting that will not take place on a reality TV show, please read this.]
We’ve mentioned previously that the Hilton camp can’t be particularly thrilled that they donated money to the McCain campaign, only to see Barack Obama unfavorably compared to Paris in his most recent campaign ad.
Now comes confirmation from a flurry of political blogs.
I hear whispers from the inner campaign staff that the phone was burning off the hook today with calls from Paris Hilton’s grandfather, William Barron Hilton (co-chair of the Hilton Hotel empire), furious that the McCain ad drew an unflattering comparison between Obama and his own granddaughter.
It seems that the elder Hilton has donated $18,400 to the McCain campaign, and $35,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee in the last couple of years. (Paris’s father, Rick Hilton, has given an additional $6,900 to the McCain campaign. Suffice it to say, he’s none too pleased either.)
Apparently, the elder Hiltons had breathed a sigh of relief that Paris was starting to get her act together since hitting rock bottom with her stay in jail last year, when all of a sudden the McCain ad compares her unfavorably to Britney Spears and Barack Obama.
I suspect that heads will roll at the McCain headquarters – if not within the staff, then I wouldn’t be surprised if Steve Schmidt starts looking for a new consulting firm for the next round of ads. This is a reminder to my brethren at the Campaign: don’t bite the hand that feeds us.
Paris Hilton isn’t just a tabloid tart to be tossed around willy-nilly. She’s the living brand name of one of America’s most successful global corporations. It’s no wonder her grandfather’s upset: every time Paris is in the news, fewer people stay at their hotels. Try explaining that to The Blackstone Group – the hedge fund firm that bought into Hilton Hotels last year. Blackstone chairman Peter G. Peterson gave $30,800 to the McCain campaign this year. Guess who also called the campaign today?
Do you hear that, America? Paris Hilton may stand for being tossed around willy-nilly, as long as she’s drunk, naked and being filmed by a millionaire playboy, but under any other circumstances it is totally inappropriate.
Britney Spears, however?
You can do whatever you want to her. I mean, what are you gonna do, force Jamie Spears’ catering business into the ground? Oh, right, he already had to quit that to become a full-time parent to his 26-year-old daughter.
Now Baron Hilton is the guy who’d rather give his money away then give it to his granddaughter… right? I think Paris dug her own hole on this one… when you are mocked in a “300” parody as refusing to bow because “I’m a Hilton… I’d rather kneel…” (or words to that effect), you know you suck both figuratively and literally. :-)
Also, every time Paris is in the news, fewer people go to Paris… the French are pissed! :-) (Shoulda named her “Baghdad!”) :-)

Why the hell do you care if people are pissed at you for allegedly favoring a candidate? It’s your damn blog. If people are so idiotic to get pissed off at you enough to email hate mail over an election then they’re assholes that have too much time on their hands and shouldn’t be catered to.
I refuse to believe that “The Hilton Clan” is upset that Paris is being made fun of. Am I wrong that she’s pretty much been the stereotype for spoiled, promiscuous, allegedly herpes infected, too cool for this world (even if only in her own head) bimbo? Where was Barron Hilton during her upbringing to slap the shit out of her AND her parents for doing such a lousy job? Remember pre-paris, they were known as the Hilton sisters? Nicky had the good sense to distance herself from her own sister so she wouldn’t be seen as a whore. If I were Paris and had to live with the knowledge that I was such a shame to my family that my own sister disassociated herself from me, I’d put a gun in my mouth

I agree with you. Paris continues to embarass herself in the media every time she gives an interview or someone puts a microphone in front of her. She has proven herself to be a disingenuous liar and a phony, despite the “new look” she alternates with the black goth or matchy match with Benji. All she has accomplished is to slap her name on products that she endorses — all as a result of the fame of tabloid scandal and the last name of Hilton.
This indignation on part of the “Hilton clan” is nonsense. It’s well known that Paris’ side of the Hilton family is not exactly “to the manor born” and never will be. They have been known as gauche social climbers in NY for many years.

One would think that Grandfather Hilton would be somewhat indignant about some of Paris’ greatest hits. This is just some of the stuff she has come out with during the past year alone:

I agree with “me” above. Why wasn’t ol’ William Barron Hilton burning up the phones bitching at Paris and her parents when she first started the socialite lifestyle and embarrassing all of them.
They’re getting all the abuse they deserve.

Hey cats, I actually live here in NYC. Maybe we’re just jaded with what people from other places refer to as ‘socialites’. Seeing famous people crossing the street or being on the same train as the mayor (who happens to be a billionaire) isn’t a big deal here. We see past her (family’s) money and see that she’s just another slutty partygirl.
All true about Paris, but really, I’d be thoroughly annoyed at any candidate I was supporting who ran such a blatantly insulting ad – you just don’t talk trash about your supporters kids/grandkids no matter how they are behaving.
Actually I think that’s kinda funny. The ultimate ‘screw you’. Gimme some money and in return you get a big fat “your granddaughter’s a slut”. so ironic it brings a smile to my face
I must have missed something because I don’t see how this ad is insulting Paris. It just shows a brief pic of her and says something about being famous. She has done more to embarrass herself and her family than anyone else could ever do

I’m originally from NYC. And I agree. But those who are from the Hamptons and other New Yorkers that live in that “social circle” have long said that they are “social climbers.” They also say what you said (lol) but behind closed doors. :-)
