Claire Danes Thought About Quitting Acting To Be An Interior Decorator

Claire Danes is doing well now on Homelandsuck it, Anne Hathaway — but there was a time, a long time, when she wasn’t doing so well. Two years, in fact. And she didn’t know what to do. As she told Vogue (via Us Weekly),

It was grim. I was very hurt. Two years of not working was brutal. And a point came where I thought, ‘I really like interior design.’

Hollywood is effing HARSH, man. It seems like you’re killing it and then suddenly, it can all go away. Even for Jennifer Lawrence and Carey Mulligan, the current young darlings Ms. Danes admires.

They have this exquisite taste. They are very gifted in their ability to make great choices. I didn’t have that rudder.

Girl, whatever, Brokedown Palace was great. Bill Pullman was in it and he’s weirdly sexy.

Really though, Hollywood is scary as f-ck for actresses. But Danes offers some advice, and it works for women in any field:

[…] you have to ask for money because there’s always more money and they won’t give it to you because you’re a girl!

WORD.

I don’t know what we’re supposed to think or feel though about Danes on the cover of “the age issue.” Jesus, Hollywood gets harsher every year, doesn’t it?

Here are two more shots from her Vogue shoot, with Damien Lewis.

  • I absolutely loved Bill Pullman in Igby Goes Down – if you’ve not seen it, do – it’s one of the best films out there!

  • Uh, that’s why she has an agent – he’s supposed to ask for “more money”. Jeez, no wonder she’s dumb as a bag of rocks. If she has an issue with what she’s making, she should be talking to her AGENT – you know, the guy she PAYS to represent her.

  • If you think Hollywood is harsh, DO NOT try interior design. We are always looking for the next project, which may be here tomorrow or never. The work is 5% fun inspiration and lots of hard work. Today your in and tomorrow, who knows?
