So Did You Guys Watch MTV’s Skins This Week?

A photo of the cast of Skins

If not, you might want to hop on it before you miss your chance, because the ever offended Parents Television Council is busy writing letters to the government with complaints of child pornography.

Lest we think that the PTC is simply all up in a conservative tizz again, they’re not the only ones concerned – so are MTV executives. It turns out that the actors playing the main cast are all between the ages of 15 and 19, and if you know Skins (and heads up, you just have to know the British version, because the new one is just a poorly done remake of the original), there are a lot of racy shenanigans concerning the main cast.  For example, remember Chris’ first episode where his mom leaves him a bunch of money and skips town, and Chris blows all the money on a party, then he realizes his mom left for good and he gets kicked out of his own house by a homeless dude who was sleeping in his tub, and there’s that tragic little scene where he just has to buck up and walk down the street naked?  Yeah, that scene’s going to be in the U.S. version, but the guy playing Chris is only 17.  And according to the PTC (and, you know, laws and stuff), that sort of material is not so good.

I consider myself to be a pretty liberal person, but I’m with the PTC on this one.  Not because I have strong feelings about child pornography (please consider that statement in context), but because I have strong feelings about how shitty MTV’s show is.  Really, did you watch it?  I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that it’s the worst thing that ever happened.  The acting was horrible, it wasn’t funny or charming or anything at all that made the original Skins wonderful, and they replaced beautiful tap dancing Maxxie with a lesbian cheerleader.  I say lock them up for all the injustices in the world.

  • It doesn’t even compare to the BBC original. MTV has once again overdone a completely awesome show and turned into a big fat crap. At least in the BBC version they show full on tits!

    • Skins is not on BBC, God forbid! The BBC can’t afford to make such racy shows. It’s by E4, the young sibling of Channel 4, a private broadcaster that obviously has much more leeway than a channel paid by the taxpayer. #arsey

  • It would be hard to compare it to the BBC version considering it was a Channel 4 production.
    Jus’ ‘sayin’.

  • I second every single word you wrote. and I love your nutshell recap of chris’ episode. although, wasn’t the guy in his shower the pizza delivery man? homeless works too. either way, he always reminds me of russell brand.
