Watch This: Lily Allen’s Video for ‘Air Balloon’

I still can’t get over how much I love this song. It’s a little MIA ‘Paper Planes’ derivative, but only in the slightest way – but it’s all around REALLY listenable. If this is a taste of what Lily Allen has to offer on her new album, I’m all in (though I always have been a fan).

The video was shot on location in Cape Town, South Africa and directed by someone called That Go. I’m not generally a fan of music videos and prefer just to listen to the songs, so it’s no surprise that the video does nothing for me. The song itself, though… so good.

Lily Allen on Music Comeback: ‘I Was Bored at Home with Kids’

lily allen

Lily Allen is back in the spotlight, and pop music fans are excited. I know I can’t wait to hear her new album. But why did Lily – who swore she was done with the music industry for good – decide to come back? The last we’d heard upon her retirement, she was ready to spend her time concentrating on being a wife and mum. Turns out, that wasn’t so fulfilling after all and she really missed being creative.

Talking to, she revealed:

“Why did I choose to come back? I ran out of money! No, I’m joking! I thought I’d be a really happy mom just sitting at home, playing with my kids. That was my dream.

“I love my children, but I’m a very impatient, busy person naturally so two babies, neither of them can talk, it was quite boring! Staying at home all day talking to people that can’t talk back.”

“I didn’t realize how much of a creative person I am and that I need somewhere to put my creativity.”

I’m glad Lily was so honest (as always). I think a lot of people would feel guilty admitting that just being a mother wasn’t totally fulfilling in and of itself because they’d be afraid it would make it seem like they didn’t totally love their kids, which is silly. You can love your kids and want to do something for yourself, too – which all people with common sense know, of course. Love me some Lily Allen.

Also, ‘Air Balloon’ is a really good song.

Lily Allen’s Label Won’t Let Her Use Her Married Name

lily allen

Lily Allen is known to the world as Lily Allen, and unfortunately her married name – Lily Rose Cooper – doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. It’s for that reason that her label refused to let her use it for her big comeback and made her stick with Lily Allen. She wasn’t too happy with the decision, but she also knows she needs money if she wants to keep this whole thing going, so here we are.

From NME:

“Sadly, in this day and age, I still need their support. They’re the bank manager and if they don’t get their money out, then I’m not going to get anywhere.

“I understand that my name is quite big, but it’s about picking your battles…”

Well, yeah. Besides, plenty of singers use their original names still after they get married. Consider it a stage name, if you must, but it’s not like fans knowing you as Lily Allen changes the fact that you’re married. Then again, I get being proud of that relationship and wanting to share it with the world. It’s a tough one, but like she said, you gotta pick your battles.

What do you think? Would Lily Rose Cooper be as successful as Lily Allen? Would people really care?

Listen: Lily Allen’s New Single, ‘Air Balloon’

Lily Allen has already teased us with a new album by releasing ‘Hard Out Here’, which was a great track, but also a bit farcical so not really a marker of what we might expect from a new full-length LP. Well, now we have a bit more of a hint with her latest single, ‘Air Balloon’, which she released the audio of earlier this morning.

It’s a really, really good track. Very MIA ‘Paper Planes’ but with some incredibly smooth production – all the rough edges have been taken out of this and it’s just really, really nice to listen to. The result is a super catchy pop tune with a great chorus that’s making me – and I’m sure a lot of other people – really excited to hear a full album.

Lily Allen Is Steering Clear of Pop Clichés

lily allen

Lily Allen is back in the music game, having released a lovely Christmas cover for John Lewis and her own new single, ‘Hard Out Here’. This, of course, means a full-length album must be following sometime soon, but Lily wants you to know that her lyrics will be as frank as ever and she has no plans of sitting around talking about the same bullshit the rest of these stars do.

From Q Magazine:

“It’s no use just singing about being famous, or rhyming ‘crazy’ with ‘baby’ a million times over,” she explains. “I still want to write about things that are relevant to other people.

“And I like to be frank, whether it’s about sex or politics or feminism… but if people want to call it controversial, then, well, that’s their thing.”

Fair enough. I enjoy Lily Allen quite a lot and I can’t wait to see what her new album is like, to be honest. I really loved her other two, and I think she’ll have matured just slightly but still have that cheeky side to her. It’s gonna be good. Of course, it’s still pop music, and I think you can’t really make it more than what it is. It’s great that she wants to talk about shit we all relate to, but I’m sure some 14-year-old in Kentucky really feels every bit of Britney Spears‘ ‘Piece of Me’ like it was written with her in mind, so it’s all relative, I suppose.
