Community/Mad Men actress Alison Brie has signed on to star in Netflix’s pro wrestling television series G.L.O.W. Based on the real-life 1980’s female wrestling league “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling,” the new comedy series comes from Jenji Kohan, creator of Orange Is The New Black and Weeds.

In the 80’s wrestling was HUGE. Like even I knew who the players were. Which is how an abomination like G.L.O.W was able to exist. That said, the world needs a good 80’s based comedy. The decade just screams for skewering.

The half-hour series, which is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams,” is inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, and will tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress — played by Brie — who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. Netflix picked up “G.L.O.W.” to series in May.
