Raven-Symoné is giving The View fans something to talk about. Yup, nothing like a good The View controversy to kick off your weekend, eh? There seem to be a lot of those. Our latest focuses on some comments made by Raven-Symoné regarding “ghetto names.” Basically, she says that if you have a “ghetto” name, she will not hire you. Not that she’s hiring. It’s a hypothetical discussion that was had on the show about discrimination in the United States.
More from PEOPLE:
During a discussion about a study that found that Americans make racist assumptions based on someone’s name, Symoné sounded off after they showed a viral video that listed the 60 most “ghetto names.”
“Just to bring it back, can we take back ‘racist’ and say ‘discriminatory,’ because I think that’s a better word,” she said. “And I’m very discriminatory against words like the ones they were saying in those names. I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.”
Is that so Raven? Sorry, I really don’t know what else to say when commenting on the comments of Raven-Symoné. So far, Ms. Watermelondrea has not responded to the backlash she’s received on Twitter and other social media outlets. Man, it’s so easy for people to express their outrage in 2015.
What do you guys think about her POV?
Coming from someone whose name is Raven-Symoné? Humm… Yeah sure. Why not.
YUP!
…and a lot of people wouldn’t hire someone with a red Mohawk and blue lips, either.
