Dennis Quaid Receives Celebrity Treatment

Early this morning Dennis Quaid and his wife and some obnoxious friend left West Hollywood’s Phillipe restaurant and were greeted by a swarm of paparazzi at the valet station.  That’s par for the course, but what isn’t ordinary is that Quaid was stopped by a police officer after driving less than a foot.  The cop warned Quaid, who was apparently in no condition to drive, that he needed to stop his car immediately.  Dennis agreed and asked if he could go back into the restaurant — terms the officer agreed to.  Quaid, wife, and obnoxious friend filed back into Phillipe and called a cab which presumably brought them safely home.

Now, here’s the thing:  In Normal World, if you were drunk and got behind the wheel of a car with the intention of operating that vehicle, you’d be arrested.  You don’t get to negotiate a workable solution.  In Hollywood, you get a heads-up and a second chance to do the right thing.  Just. No. Consequences.

You can watch a video of the whole chain of events as they unfolded, here.

  • Wow. He is really out of control. What a weird deal. However, I’ve run across police officers that were very kind. When pulling over a car full of us, the officer gave us all a sobriety test and let the “most sober” one drive away. I don’t really think that’s all that brilliant either. Anyway, looks like Quaid needs some court-appointed consequences, like rehab.

  • Wendie. Wendie. Wendie. Please. Stop. Writing. Like. This. It’s. Really. Annoying.

You just ended two consecutive posts with this irritating style. It’s a fad, it will pass (I devoutly hope) and sorry, but you didn’t originate it. Check out the unfortunate author Robin D. Owens, who writes charming books except for the fact that she insists on putting this trendy, choppy one-word-sentence style into her books.

As for Dennis, lots of people get preferential treatment: see George W. Bush, who had his drunk driving record expunged from Texas Department of Motor Vehicle records (for security reasons, of course) and his two chronically drunk under-age daughters.

I have a feeling that beautiful young women get cut some slack too, especially when they agree to “date” the cops.

    • Could the first part of your post be any more condescending? Where does Wendie say that she started the trend of one-word sentences?

Wendie, I believe your one word sentences are hilarious and only to be trumped by one word sentences in all caps.

  • This is total bullshit – his ass should have gotten arrested…..which would have led to an eventual 32 minutes behind bars and a public apology by his rep! I just read the same shit about Queen Latifah – she got pulled over going 120 mph and they let her go with a warning!!! This is some serious bullshit.

  • This looks like he might be on a slippery slope. He was treated for substance abuse in the early 90’s. I wonder how long he’s been drinking? These kind of things don’t go away, they only get worse.
