Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Yeah, Scarlett Johansson is Still Doing That Singing Thing

I’d like to thank my friends over at Celebitchy for actually watching the whole eight minutes of this video of ScarJo rehearsing and then performing on Ellen.  I could only manage 3.2 minutes before I started sprouting unnatural chest hairs.  Incidentally, Johansson giving Ellen a singing tutorial in the beginning is the most hysterical and ironic thing I’ve ever seen.  It’s like Ellen holding a seminar on how to suck a dick — it just doesn’t make any sense.  Teach what you know, Scar … teach what you know.

Anyway, Scar sang with Pete Yorn and thank you God for Pete Yorn.  He is vocally strong enough to drown out the braying strains of her, and that makes him pretty awesome in my book.

  • I think she has a really interesting, unique voice. I am somewhat baffled as to the overwhelmingly negative reviews she receives.

I also LOVE Pete Yorn, so I may be a tad biased ;)

    • I actually watched this Ellen & thought so well of it that I’m planning to buy the CD. I think that her voice was a perfect pair for Pete Yorn & absolutely fits the genre. I was very impressed & don’t understand the negativity at all…..

  • maybe I’m in the minority here.. but I actually liked it. If she had tried to take lead it could’ve been a different story, but as back up I think it was good & I LOVE Pete Yorn so that helped.

  • Begrudgingly, I have to concur with everyone above me. I thought it was sultry, charming, and melodic. And I usually cringe at everything after Lost In Translation so there ya go. And I love Ellen! She’s so incredibly likable.

  • i kinda liked it. it was interesting and different form the normal over-produced stuff we usually hear. i don’t know why you hate it so much wendie. I mean, I’m not a big fan of her acting, but she’s not a bad singer at all!

  • i think her voice suits her, beautiful because it is unique, & imperfect. alex s put it perfectly well :)

and plus, pete yorn wouldn’t duet with a bad singer!

  • i bought this song on itunes several months ago when i first heard it and i’ve put it on every mix cd since. needless to say i end up listening to it at least once a day driving to or from work. its an excellent song and scarlett is a wonderful singer and pete is a great musician

  • Gonna have to agree. I was very skeptical of her singing abilities, but I think she sounded great on this and really complimented the overall sound.

  • Meh, she’s riding on her name/fame more than actual talent. Though I dislike it less that Zooey Deschanel’s nasal wookie like singing voice in that cotton ad.

  • She’s not lipsyncing. That puts her ahead of most of the other pop singers out today. I like her voice.

  • WAIT A MINUTE – did anyone catch the first part in which the convo went a little like this?:

ScarJo: “You can go higher or lower.”
    Ellen: “Where?”
    ScarJo: “At the dissonant chord.”
    Ellen: “What’s that?”
    ScarJo: “It’s….I dunno. It’s….ask Pete!”

Holy shit dude. If you don’t know what a dissonant chord is, maybe you should be moving along and let a REAL musician do the work.
