Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Bye Bye to Shoka and Nala

Jon Gosselin

While Jessica Simpson is desperately trying to find her dog, Jon Gosselin is giving his away. These are photos of Jon spending his last moments with the family’s German Shepherds, Shoka and Nala, before sending them back to the breeder. Jon says he’s forced to give the dogs away because Kate doesn’t take care of them when he’s around.

Sources close to the family say the dogs have always been Jon’s — Kate was never psyched about the idea of adding two dogs to a family with eight kids — and Jon bought a bachelor pad in NYC where he couldn’t keep two German Shepherds. Ugh. People who adopt animals and then decide later that they just don’t want them really piss me off. Adopting an animal is a long-term commitment, just like adopting a child, and you have to be prepared to deal with having them as a part of your family even when it’s not convenient. It doesn’t seem at all fair to the kids that their dogs have to move out because their parents can’t keep their shit together.

Plus, how hard is it to “take care” of two German Shepherds when you live on a billion acres of land? Just make sure they have food and water and then let them run around and play and occasionally pick up their shit. It’s not like it’s harder than raising EIGHT CHILDREN.

Sigh. I’m pissed about this. Poor doggies. The good thing is that I’m sure they’ll get adopted back out really quickly. Everyone will want the Gosselin dogs.

  • This is really shitty, but I can’t say I’m surprised. They don’t seem like the type to take dog ownership very seriously. I feel for the dogs and the kids. Hopefully Shoka and Nala will be placed together in a loving home. I’m with you – this really pisses me off.

  • If Jon really wanted those dogs, he should have moved somewhere he can keep those dogs when it’s Kate’s turn.

I don’t blame Kate. I wouldn’t want two huge German Shepherds either.

    • I agree with your first statement. It seems like he is using Kate as an excuse. If you ‘really’ love and respect your pet, you would find a way to keep them. If I had no other option but to give my pet away, it would be to a trusted friend or family member. It certainly wouldn’t be to the pound or back to the breeder.

As far as your second satement…I DO blame kate. I actually blame both. In complete reference to Kate however, I watched the episode when they got the pups. She (kate) was like a kid in a candy store. At that time the pups were small, cute, and fuzzy. Now they are all grown up and the novelty has worn off.

Finally: Any one who works and travels so much probably shouldn’t have a pet. Ultimately if you are not there, how are you going to care for it?? Although I guess you could say the same about 8 kids. They are keeping them though, right? LOL

      • It was probably in their contract when they bought the dogs that they couldn’t be sold to anybody else and have to go back to the breeder- most breeders do that so you won’t try and take their profit. So- back to the breeder they go- good for them for following the rules on this one.

      • You cant blame a person for not taking care of something she never wanted.

He wanted the dogs, he needs to make arrangements.

I moved into an apartment that cost more so i could take my dog when i was barely out of school. This douche is using Kate as his excuse.

As usual the kids will suffer, Kate shall bear a brunt of the anger and he shall live to screw some 20 something.

Bet he wished there was a kennel for his 8 kids.

    • this is so dumb. if you decide to get a pet even if you are with someone it is your pet. my cat is my cat. if me and my bf break up there is no way in hell he is getting my cat, even though he adores him.

  • Uh Duh..Maybe you should be around more! OH thats right you have Vegas, and VMA after parties to go to. SO THE KIDS GET SCREWED AGAIN, SO YOU CAN GET SCREWED AGAIN! PLEASE dont ever say everything you is for the kids again because that is just BULLSH*T

  • I’m glad because those dogs deserve better than a life sentence with Kate.

German Shepherds are very intelligent, sensitive, loyal and always try hard to intuit what their loved ones want and then try so hard to deliver whatever that is – they love to make their loved ones happy.

Khate has NONE of these noble traits. Nary a one.

If anyone should’ve been muzzled and/or caged, it should’ve been Kate, who is an embarrassment to her species.

I’m guessing the breeder will have no trouble find a better, more loving home for Shoka & Nala.

And, Oh, BTW, how classic Kate was it that, even for pets she had ZERO interest in, muchless affection for, Queen Control refused to allow her kids to even name the dogs – no, Kate was Large and In Charge even for that.

The woman is psychological debris, and that’s a kind analysis. Can we please vote her off our planet?

    • I know Kate is 1/2 of the equation, but I think you are forgetting to blame the other half, Jon. He is just as responsible for not caring for them if not more so because he was the one who pushed the pets.

  • Ugh, this is so shitty. I agree with other commenters that if he really wanted the dogs he would take ownership of them and work around them. I also agree that it’s not Kate’s responsibility to watch over them when he is not around if he admits that she didn’t want them in the first place.

    • Umm…Wasn’t it Kate that named the dogs and ran to the kennel to pick them out? Once again she used, abused, and threw away something that she no longer needed

  • As an animal lover and former Humane Education teacher for the Santa Barbara Humane Society, I am appalled at their careless treatment of those dogs.

Truth be told though, in my heart of hearts, I know the dogs are better off. The tups were never given any guidance on how to treat animals, and were too often overly rough; J & K are too selfish to give the dogs the love and care they need. The breeder will find them new [hopefully more loving] homes.
Now watch Kate spin this as all JON’S fault. WHo was it that ran squealing to the puppies, and insisted on naming them.

Oh well in Gosselin Land puppies aren’t forever, like wedding vows. The diamond however is still being coddled and cared for sti;; on her finger .

    “for the kids.”

  • What a serious screwed up family. I am sickened but not shocked; I saw this one coming. You know one second thought if the dogs could talk they would say “Are you kidding, get us the hell out of here.”
Jon should be ashamed of himself, he still wets himself when Kate the babymaker belts out her demands. The woman is demented. Boo Hoo poor Kate.
As for the kids, don’t pity them. They are spoiled rotten and never really appreciated the dogs. They are too busy playing each one of their demented parents in different ways.
Kate is a control freak who deserves to be alone. Only Kate can make Kate happy.
As for Jon, it is obvious what head he is thinking with. Although you can’t blame the guy, I am sure he was seriously controlled in that area too. After the kids were born I don’t he seen much action.
Kate is too busy trying to fit the celebrity role without actually being a celebrity. She is a joke!!
Run dogs, you are better off! Get away from wacko land!

  • There were rumors floating around for awhile that they had given up the dogs but I guess it finally became true. I have absolutely no sympathy for them. I still don’t understand why they took two dogs. And now that they’re not puppies I hope the breeders are still able to find homes for them. I can not stand irresponsible pet owners. Pets should be treated like members of the family and if someone isn’t committed to taking care of them for life than they should never have taken them to begin with.

  • why the f would I want to take car of my ex-husbands two dogs when I already have a bajillion kids to take care of?

whatever. some fan will absolutely want them more.

  • When I heard they were getting a dog I thought they were nuts, when they got two large breed dogs, that was just plain screwed up. I have 12 dogs that I foster because someone did not want them, one that is partially paralyzed, another that is nearly blind from bad breeding practices, another I will have for life because she was beaten and trusts no one but me now ect,. I also have a ten rabbits left orphaned after Easter and two chickens we caught roaming the city, also after Easter and to top the list 35 dwarf hamsters that someone tried to breed for profit and then dumped at their local shelter. The only people I do not blame are those who lost their homes and could not keep their pets, I blame Bush for that. People need to stop and think before they do something stupid like what J&K did, they are both selfish aholes.

    • I have always wanted to foster pets but I am also smart enough that I will wait until I have a stable income and a place that will have enough space for more animals. I am not about to take on a bunch of dogs and cats and critters in a small apartment when I know it won’t be the best thing for them. You are doing a wonderful thing. These douchenozzles are not and have set a bad example for their kids and the people who idolize them.

  • There is room for only one bitch in the Gosselin household. You speak my language, Beet. Puppies and kittens are serious commitments of perhaps – if you are lucky – 15 to 20 years. I have adopted several shelter kitties and reading the pet history cards make me sick so often. So….numb nuts, you had this loving creature in your home for three years (or whatever) and suddenly you don’t want the poor baby anymore?!? The excuses are so often the same. Allergies and moving. Unless I am moving to prison or a mental institution, my four legged babies come with me! And, yeah, I have allergies but I have always built a tolerance for my own kitty pals. And it takes several years to realize you suddenly have allergies? Bull sheet.

I look at the cages of discarded dogs and cats — all of them with that “why did my mommy dump me here?” look on their faces. The boy lounging at the end of my bed right now is beautiful, perfect, sweet, loving and a joy to have share my home. His family dumped him when he was 2-1/2 years old. This long hair tabby brings me so much joy that I cannot imagine how anybody could throw him away.

How do you just toss away your pets? But with that crew why are we surprised? Unless those dogs could make them a few bucks somehow, I guess they were not useful for them. When will those jerk-off Gosselins go away?!?!?

  • Lets hope this is only a practice run and soon better homes will also be found for those other pets, the kids.

  • THOSE ARE THE WORST NAMES FOR GERMAN SHEPARDS I HAVE EVER HEARD….HOPEFULLY THEY WILL GET NEW NAMES FROM THEIR NEW FAMILIES.

PS-ROSE THOSE NUMBERS SOUND OFF…LIKE HOARDING MORE SO THAN FOSTERING. I HOPE YOU HAVE A GAZILLION ACRES SOMEWHERE BECAUSE IF ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS WAS FOSTERING 50+ ANIMALS I’D BE MAKING A CALL.

  • good lord–just when i think these people can’t be bigger assholes (jon in particular)…

i guess just like stupid, classless asshole has no basement, either.

a pet is a member of the family–not a fvcking accessory.

and same goes for the kids! why you’d even need to remind anyone of that just bespeaks how effed up these people are.

  • OMG – I never watched that show because it would be like watching paint dry with a soundtrack. Now I will doubly not not watch it.

I had my GSD for 14.5 years. We lived in some scary-ass places so we could stay together. And the day he died was the worst day of my life. I have a new puppy now and I would live in a tent before I would give him up.

I really hope these dogs go to good loving homes where they are appreciated and can live out the rest of their lives.

    • I’ll never forget the day our German Shepherd died when I was 10, and she was 14. She guarded me through my whole childhood.

There’s no excuse for people who give up their animals… The only solace is that the animals may find better homes with people who appreciate them. I’d give up ANYTHING before I gave up our two dogs and two cats. It’s just unforgivable.

  • have to disagree here. adopting an animal is not like adopting a child. adopted animals are meant to be pets. children are never pets, at least never supposed to be. the responsibility for a pet is a lot less than for a child. pet never grows to be socially responsible. please don’t tell me that i have a lifelong responsibility to an animal. i have a cat that i rescued, he’s lucky to be alive. he drinks filtered water and eats all organic, has all the shots, and i play with him every day. however, if i wanted to go somewhere where i couldn’t have pets, i would leave my cat behind. i’d do my best to find him a great home but as i wrote previously, pets are not substitute for kids.

    • If you commit to something, you should follow through. Fish, dog, husband, child. There’s no grey area.

I hope you don’t decide to “go somewhere” and leave your cat behind. Poor cat. At least he eats organically. I’m sure he cares.

    • I’m pretty sure your cat doesn’t give a flying fuck if he only drinks organic, mountain spring water. I do think he’d be a little pissed about being killed on a shelter because you decided you “needed” a new apartment.

  • I understand why she wouldn’t want to take care of 2 more beings. They have a PILE of children that need attention. They should have thought it out better before they got the dogs.

HE could take them, If He’d made a better choice as to where/how he was going to live. He could have been the Dad that they love to see b/c “Here come the dogs too!” He is definitely blaming her and trying to shift public opinion into sympathy his way.

I saw some old episodes and she was really controlling.

But overall, I had one kid with special needs and a teenager with her own issues… and just dropping a pellet into the fish bowl felt like too much for me sometimes. I did it. I took care of that fish until it died…but I was so ready for it to go. So I can relate to being overwhelmed.

  • I feel really bad for the children. I recently had to give up my dog due to frequent travel. It just wasn’t fair to the dog. My daughter was so upset. The good news: I talked her father into taking the dog! So, my daughter still sees Daisy (the dog) on a regular basis. And, her father loves the dog. Worked out well for all involved!

Don’t break the kids’ hearts! They get sooo attached to dogs because dogs are innocent, just like children.

  • Seriously, fuck these two. I grew up on a farm with horses, dogs, cats, sheep, etc. I even chose one of my cats soley based on the fact that she was black and I was afraid no one would want her. She is by far and away the best cat I’ve ever had, and I would rather give up a kidney that give her away (unless the owner before me really, really had a good case, and a sad face). These two suck.

    • These two suck, indeed. I really didn’t give a shit about them until I read this. Could have placed bets on it, but still.

I hope the new owner of these dogs give them the love they deserve.

  • I’ve wondered what’s become of their dogs, and I’m happy to hear they’ll be back with the breeder. Animals are a lifelong committment, and it’s fairly obvious that these douchewads aren’t up for the challenge. I’m glad they didn’t just throw them in a shelter, at least.

K, I officially hate them now.

  • I had a crazy chow that suffered from separation anxiety. She ate through the carpet, a door, two crates, and a sofa. She was very sweet when we were home, but went insane when we left.
It was like having a bad kid. What can you do? Can’t give her back, can’t send her to the shelter to be killed, nobody wanted her. We did the best we could to avoid her destroying our house. When she died of old age, we remodeled and my husband told me I could get another dog when I got another husband.

  • Now I’m really done with these sons of bitches. Not the dogs, but Jon and Kate. They are narcissistic and self-entitled, and I hope this doesn’t rub off on the kids. Having pets taken away from them had to be so hard. The kids were probably inside the house crying. Nice parenting.

Hope those dogs have a better life wherever they end up.

  • i officially hate jon and kate now. they both are self-indulgent idiots. they gave away the family pets…next they will give away the children…perhaps they should. the kids can go to a better home too.

  • I am relieved that those two beautiful animals are out of Kate’s rage range and will no longer be hit with plastic bats by her litter. However, they came from a backyard breeder ( I did my homework here) who states he is “just keeping them for awhile for Jon and that the female should be breed soon.” My hope is that he will get greedy and resell these TLC episode props ( sorry doggies) to a wonderful animal lover to make up for having to live in those cages on 23 acres for a whole year. I am convinced the Gosselins have no interest in coming to reclaim these pets any more than their two cats they dumped when the twins were born. Remember, Kate?

  • Animal adoption is FOREVER. If you are capable of caring for them, they are yours until they die. That’s the end of that. Heart breaking.

  • OK I’ve staid out of this mess since the damn show has become viral. I’ve never seen the show. But abandoning these dogs is very irresponsible. What is he too busy making public appearances to take care of two dogs? How many nannies do they have for those kids? Get these guys off tv and off the Internet PLEASE

  • Uh, why can’t he take them to back to live with him at his bang shack, then bring them back to the house when he goes there to be with his kids? What an a-hole. Probably telling his kids that “Mommy is making the dogs go away”.

  • Hello, this message is for “Pat”, From the “backyard breeder”, I dont know where you recieved your information, but your statement(s) are way off base and your research/homework, albeit dubiusly cute, is mularky. I am a retired police officer with 30 years of German Shepherd Breeding, training and care experience. I am a(German Shepherd only) breeder and rescue that breeds one litter per year. Most of my dogs are for family pets and are bred for that purpose. Some go to police service as I was once a K9 handler and believe that the dogs are part of a family and not just a tool, anyone who has ever had one of my dogs will attest as to their satisfaction with all puppies, who by the way, are always healthy and strong and gauranteed. This situation simply didnt work out due to this family’s unfortunate circumstances and I have the dogs until a final decision is made. Stop making statements about specific things you know nothing about. The dogs are safe and will remain here as long as necessary for them to be well cared for. As for Nala, she may be bred someday, but I never told you or anyone else this fact, so please refrain from inaccurate frazzled lip service. Have a great day people, and remember dont believe everything you read.
    Thanks

  • They have shoka back, they were sent away to be trained actually, because Kate wasn’t ‘fond’ of their behaviour. But Nala is very mischevious, and her training isn’t working out so well

  • Oh and they didn’t get their dogs from backyard breeders, And Nala was spayed because Kate didn’t want to have to deal with the mess
