While I believe it’s pretty universally known that Kristen Stewart can’t act her way out of a wet paper bag with a giant hole in it that’s illuminated by several exit signs, the actress recently spoke about how very difficult this whole acting thing has been for her, particularly while shooting the love triangle in New Moon.
It turns out that Kristen can’t exactly seperate her own drama from that of her character, and found herself recovering from her character’s break ups as if they were her own, going as far to say that it killed her. KILLED her. “People don’t just break up [in the films] – they break up and it literally kills you. It’s not like you just say, ‘Oh, I’m really depressed and crying.’ I always had a really hard time figuring out, ‘Am I doing enough? Do I look like I’m going to die?’ ”
As a pretty hardcore non-Twilight fan, I can’t tell ya if her character really does die, which would be the proper definition of “literally” being killed, but I can tell you that I don’t think acting really works that way. You typically don’t ask the director if you’re emoting enough facially (I’d think you’d go to your trailer and practice your sad face if you need to do that) and you typically don’t report to MTV News that that’s what you had to do to make sure that you were selling it (you’d just shut the hell up and thank God you’re still working), but hey! Good for her!
I don’t understand how people can call Kristen Stewart a bad actress. I’m not a hardcore twilight fan, but I do think that Kristen Stewart is BRILLIANT. She is going places. You’ll see.

Um, she was incredible in Panic Room and Safety of Objects (her first two movies are, incidentally, the only things I’ve seen her in). I don’t think I plan to see any dumbass Twilight movies, but if that’s the yardstick by which we’re gauging her talent, um, that really isn’t Miss Stewart’s problem.

In the book Bella kinda goes comatose and thinks she might die when she’s broken up with. So maybe Kristen was just worried she couldn’t be as insanely dramatic and stupid as Bella was supposed to be feeling.

I just read that People article earlier, and Molls, you either didn’t understand what she was saying, or you deliberately took her quote out of context – either way it’s journalistic laziness, and I’ve been noticing this more and more on this site lately. She wasn’t saying the breakup nearly killed her personally, she was saying that it nearly kills her character, because everything about Twilight is so overdramatic. Maybe you’re the one who can’t separate fantasy from reality, Molls. Here’s the full quote, you left out the first sentence, which is key:

I personally didn’t feel like that really changed the context of what she was saying, to be honest. I’m sorry that you disagree, but I don’t think I misrepresented what she said at all.
Basically, you made it sound like Kristen was saying that it killed her personally to act out a breakup, when in fact she meant that to her character Bella, it feels like breaking up is actually killing her. That is how you changed the meaning. I just had to wonder if because you’re such a diehard non-Twilight fan, you took an opportunity to manipulate a quote a little bit and make Kristen Stewart look foolish. That girl sticks her foot in her mouth all the time, she doesn’t need any help!
Bottom line is that I just want this site to be accurate and not manipulate quotes to serve the writers’ own biases. I’m glad I’m not famous, I’d hate to have my words turned around and misinterpreted on me!

I know I came late to this discussion, but having read the entire Twilight series, I can say without a doubt Kristen Stewart can’t act. the whole reason I read the books was because my wife and daughter were into them. I started to enjoy the narrative of Bella, whose wit and wry sense of humor was tempered by her self-deprecating charm and consideration for others. I think the narrative in the book probably reflected some of the personality traits of the author, Stephanie Myers. Anyhow, Bella was supposed to be wooden and unfeeling after breaking up with Edward. Since Kristen Stewart was already wooden in the first movie, with virtually no voice inflection or intensity, I don’t know how she’s going to pull it off for the second. Let’s face it, Kristen Stewart was hired for her looks and not her acting ability.

I’m a huge Twilight fan, but Kristen Stewart is a horrible actress! In the books, Bella seems pretty normal, besides the fact that she’s in a love triangle with a werewolf and a vampire, but Kristen Stewart’s version of Bella is a complete psycho! I don’t think I’m the only fan who has noticed this. She is so overly dramatic when she shouldn’t be, and portrays literally no emotion when she should be dramatic. Her idea of realism is blinking a lot, stuttering and sounding like she’s out of breath.
I thought she was brilliant in Into The Wild and Speak. I also liked her in “In the Land of Women.” I think her acting is natural on screen but that certainly does not mean she should act the way she wants too for certain roles like Twilight. Her acting in Twilight was okay I guess, may be I think that because I always pictured her being sarcastic and moody in the book. She could have had a little bit more enthusiasm in her acting. She just looked nervous and unsure of herself in Twilight.

I like Kristen Stewart as a person but not so much as an actress. I have to admit that I am a little disappointed with her acting in the Twilight series. Her performance in New Moon was a smidge better than her performance in Twilight, but I am still not impressed. She’s still young so her insecure demeanor is understandable. I’m sure that she is a nice girl underneath the shyness.
The only thing that concerns me is if she is seasoned enough as an actress to pull off Bella’s role in Eclipse. I read the book and Bella is required to be very emotional including crying A LOT. She also breaks her hand so I am not too confident that Kristen Stewart will be able to pull that off seeing as she did absolutely NO crying in New Moon even though Bella’s character was supposed to.

As somebody who just went to see the movies because my friend who read all the books wanted to go, I left the theater and my first question was why does the actress who plays Bella look awkward all the time? How she acts in a lot of the scenes it just doesn’t look natural for how her character should be looking during that scene, something is just off
