R.I.P. Karl Malden

Karl Malden passed away today at the very ripe old age of 97.

Best known for his television role on The Streets of San Francisco — one of my all-time favorites as a kid  Malden also appeared in Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront, and How the West Was Won.

In my personal estimation, his most admirable accomplishment is that he is survived by his wife of 71 years.  You read that right:  71 years.

Prayers and positive thoughts go out to the entire Malden family.

  • that is crazy, that has got to be one of longest marraiges on record. living with the same person for 71 years, that poor old lady must not know what to do without him. awwww.

  • Great entertainer. Make sure to check him out in “Nevada Smith” with Steve McQueen. He plays a real mean SOB in that one and does it well. While 97 years is a pretty good ride, my thoughts still go out to his family during this time of loss. Oh, and I want first dibbs on that cool hat he wore on the AMEX commercials.

  • I loved ‘Streets of San Fransisco’!Even though they had it translated to Afrikaans, and so everyone’s mouths moved all funny,it was a great show.

I think everyone could take a page out of this man’s marriage. What an incredible accomplishment.

  • Streets of San Francisco is one of my all time favorite cop shows. Karl Malden and my father looked kind of alike, so I always liked Karl anyway. Anyone who can weather 71 years of marriage is fantastic in my book. My thoughts are with his wife and family.

    RIP Karl Malden.

  • I know he’s a very accomplished actor, so I hope this doesn’t seem like an insult. For me, the most memorable role he played was Reverend Ford, the Pastor of Harrington Town’s church in the Disney Classic “Pollyanna” – made in 1960, starring Hayley Mills.

    R.I.P.

  • He was absolutely brilliant in On the Waterfront. IO think he was nominated for an Oscar. RIP, and thoughts are with his family

  • “If you look for the worst in people expecting to find it, you surely will.”

My thoughts to his family. G.
