Who Thinks Adam Lambert Is Straight? Who Cares That Adam Lambert Is Gay?

Listen, I don’t dedicate a lot of time to wondering about the sexual orientation of Adam Lambert.  Partially because it has nothing to do with his talent, but mostly because I assumed he was gay based on these pictures of him making out with a dude.  Really, who cares?

Apparently, Lambert thinks we all do.  In an interview with People, he played coy when asked about his sexuality.  “Calm down and keep speculating.”  I must ask, where are all these frenzied speculators?  He was also asked if he addresses his sexuality in an upcoming Rolling Stone interview to which he replied, “Maybe.”  Obviously he’s taking PR tips from either Jodie Foster, Ricky Martin or Queen Latifah.

Adam talked about how cool it is to be different.  “Conforming is not cool.  Embracing who you are and what makes you different is actually what’s really cool … The kids that are different and out there and expressive and are bold with those choices, those are the people that grow up to be people we all want to hang out with, that become celebrities or become really successful in what they do because they believe in who they are.”

So when the “Yes, I’m Gay” People magazine cover comes out, who will be shocked?  And more importantly, who will care?

  • I can kind of see why he wouldn’t want to come out publicly before he has a career. Look at Ellen DeGeneres, after she came out in the 90s her show was dropped and she had trouble finding work (she said that in her Tulane commencement speech if you don’t believe me). So while many people are tolerant and realize sexual orientation has nothing to do with a person’s job, others may treat Adam differently and he may be discriminated against.

    • Yeah… but everyone has seen the pictures.. i’m sure at least 90% of people ASSUME already and his popularity is still going strong…

  • Who doesn’t think he’s gay? It seems to me that he is “out”, he just doesn’t feel the need to “come out” to the public. You never hear straight people talking about how they’re all straight so why would a gay man need to? He’s going to have a successful career either way so people need to focus on that instead of always asking about his sexual orientation. And by him saying “keep speculating” at least it keeps people interested although IMO its nobody’s business.

  • Um, Adam – people can either calm down or keep speculating. They’re sort of mutually exclusive.

  • I like the fact that he doesn’t feel he has to state what his sexual preference is. It’s nobody’s business but his and has nothing to do with his talent. He’s actually handling things in a very classy way.

  • I generally don’t care about the sexuality of silly karaoke show contestants and this case is no different. I’ll just say that if a guy, any guy, has playfully made out with another guy then he’s gay. Period. Nothing wrong with that but that’s just how it goes. No need to question it or wonder if he’s straight or not.

  • The best part is he is always made up and wearing a foolish manly-girly costume so he’s copying bobby trendy. HOW low-LAME

  • I don’t really care if he’s gay or not, i just want to get me some of those awesome shoulder protectors he’s rocking in that picture.
They would come in handy when my daughter tries to read my e-mail over my shoulder.

  • I don’t care if he likes men, women or both. What I do care about is how horrifying his outfit is. He’s a ballgag away from my eyes vomitting. (Sorry if this posts twice, damn internet)

  • Are people really this stupid? I kind of always thought that, even though I had little respect for the media, surely they had some education. Maybe we should start asking the media if they are whores? The answer to that is as clear as the answer to your rediculous question and attitude toward this young man who has the whole world looking at him and judging him at age 27. I really am amazed at how the media treats people. It is a wonder anyone in America can feel good about emerging as any kind of leader. You guys take the joy out of everything.
Adam Lambert should be laughing at the very idea that speculation is still in the cards! Get real people, and get a LIFE! Adam is, at least, trying to earn his. Leave him the hell alone!

  • Who gives a damn if he’s gay? (Oh, wait…the California legislature sure does.) Adam Lambert is a very talented, skilled performer and I hope his career skyrockets. And gay or not – he is one FINE ASS piece of work. ;)

  • It really doesn’t matter if he is gay or not, though if he is, I think most people would feel about the same amount of surprise as they did when Clay Aiken finally came out.
He is sexy, regardless of anything.

  • Of course Adam Lambert is straight! He told me so last night while he was bent over my couch.

  • So sad….he obviously can’t deal with the fact he completely missed the 80’s and feels compelled to relive them for us.
    Adam, please don’t.

  • Well, come on now! Obviously he’s gay. You don’t need to see those pictures to know that he’s gay.. But he is also very very talented, and his sexual preference should not matter at all.. I like the fact that he acts like we all know, and he doesn’t have to admit to anything.

I didn’t pay attention to him until Beet started talking about him. Now that we’re getting to know him, i like him more and more everytime you guys write about him. I’m totally buying his album when it comes out.

  • he’s enormously talented, well spoken and articulate, and has accepted the burden of representing a cause with grace and humility. Like he’s stated in interviews, he just wants to sing and make music, but if people want to put his name on a cause, he can’t ignore that. He’s doing a wonderful job of refusing to answer based on the fact that the question itself is flawed: gay, straight, bi, or simply open to love regardless of gender, it doesn’t matter and it certainly doesn’t effect his ability to create music. I admire him!
