Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Wanna Hear the New Bond Theme? (Hint: You Don’t)

It’s called “Another Way to Die.” It was written and produced by Jack White, and performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys, after studio execs realized that Amy Winehouse was, essentially, unemployable.

It’s … um … weird. And by “weird” I mean it still probably would have been better if Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse had done it, even if Amy had smoked, like, a mattress full of crack beforehand. In fact, I kind of feel cracked out just listening to it. It’s unsettling. It makes me want to twitch and rearrange furniture and then scratch at my face a lot.

Listen here.

  • its jack white. he is off the wall with his sound. just look at all the white stripe albums, different sound for each one.

  • i totally agree with you beet… this is bad
i wish mark ronson & amy winehouse had done it.
at this point… i even kinda wish samantha ronson and lindsay lohan had done it.
thats how much i dislike it

  • twitching, rearranging furniture and scratching alot — add a fresh carton of cigarettes and that’s my idea of heaven!

  • I actually love it! I’m a fan of Jack in general, and I think he nailed this. Just enough weird to still make it his, but it’s got the “Bond”-y type sounds along with the horns, and Alicia’s voice melds well with all of it.

  • i liveee for james bond theme songs
    you have nooo idea
i also adore jack white and alicia keys
i am not at all disappointed
    this song is wondefful
i think it’s a perfect james bond song [can’t be worse than when they used madonna… ewww]
and i think it’s great work from the artists

  • This is a James Bond theme? This is a terrible song…. who in the hell approved this to be the theme for possible huge hit movie? I think it’s pretty boring and not at all a theme song for a movie like this… or any movie in general.

  • Not weird in my opinion… I love it too. Its got a fuckin awesome beat. Its like new and old at the same time… I’m diggin it.

  • beet, you have issues. you can listen to miley cyrus and lindsay lohan but you think there is something wrong with this song? you should maybe go take a music appreciation class at your local jr college.

  • Catchy track, but an odd mix, arrangements could be more thought out, some of the placements in sound scope are out of place, and double tracking tonality is a smidge off, strings chime in in odd places…cool for an album song of out takes, but not major theme move/TV friendly to wide audience….sounds like 3rd from master mix to my ears & needs some tweaking here & there…just my opinion though.

  • their voices mixed better than i thought they would. it seemed kind of predictable in places but it didn’t merit twitching and furniture rearrangement. compared to other bond themes it’s an improvement.

i gotta go with joan on this one.

  • I love the White Stripes and Jack’s performance. What I think doesn’t work is the orchestral music mixed in with the rock. I also think Alicia Keys’ does not fit well with Jack’s voice.

Alicia Keys is just like every other female “stunt” singer that can hit high notes: ie Whitney Houston, Christiana Aguilera, Mariah Carey, etc. Their voice has a lot of range but zero character.

  • ooooh totally bad ass. I love it – it’s complicated and conflicted just like Mr. Bond. I don’t even like Alicia Keys but Jack White fixed her up good.

  • I’m holding off judgment for a while. I hope it’ll grow on me, and also, seeing it with the movie credits will make a ton of difference.

My initial impression though? Too much wailing.

  • die die die
    ouch
    it’s retro and jazzy
    and intellectual
but I can’t listen to all of it
    I think it’s not a Bond song
neither many of the other Bond songs

  • Annoying, grating, awful….not really a catchy theme song. Takes the worst of the past Bond tunes and puts them all together in one sucky pile of noise….but, I will see this movie.

  • All right, where’s Shirley Bassey when we really need her? Don’t get me wrong, I like White Stripes, but not for a Bond movie. Hopefully, it’s in the closing credits, so I’ll be out of the theater by the time it plays.

  • i understand the unsettled move your furniture around feeling, but i suprisingly love it. I think jack white’s arrangement is so set apart and talented.

  • the song is good but its sung by the wrong people. it should be sung by someone more ‘shirley bassey’ like. they arent typical bond singers. the song separate to the film is good. but doesnt go with the film. its a tad to stuttery. and the electric guitar cut ins???? WHATS THAT ABOUT??? huge error for a bond film. YOU GUYS FAILED AT MAKING A BOND SONG but you suceeded at makign a good track.

  • I actually love the song. I agree, it’s a weird Bond song, and Alicia Keys and Jack White are strange bedfellows. But I think it kind of works in a weird, unconventional way. It’s catchy and has really neat instrumentation, but as a Bond theme song, it’s refreshing at best, odd at worst.

  • I really love the James Bond movies. One of the best was the man with the golden gun. There the James Bond Rock was really impressive, in nature it isn’t so special in my opinion.
