Last week, it was revealed that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are taking a bit of a break in their marriage, which has a lot of people upset/sad/whatever. Of course, Michael is now saying that everyone is making a big deal out of nothing and that there’s actually no issue there, despite his earlier admission that they were going to “take time to evaluate and work on” their marriage.
While promoting Behind the Candelabra in Berlin, here’s what he told The AP about the state of affairs at home:
“I have a crisis at home? No I think the press has a crisis. We are fine. My wife and I are fine.
“We’ve taken a temporary separation but the press, it gives you stuff to write about.”
Well, since you’ve taken a temporary separation, you’re definitely not “fine” – you’d still be together if that was the case. Still, I don’t really think the ins and outs of things are anyone else’s business. I don’t know much about these two either way, but I hope they work it out… however it’s best for them.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones aren’t divorcing, at least not yet. They are, however, separating. Gee, maybe because Michael Douglas blamed C Z-J for his cancer (a claim he tried to take back, but too late, bro.) Here’s the official statement from Ms. Zeta-Jones’ rep, gave E! News, via E Online:
Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.
From that sentence, E! has gleaned that, “it’s important to note that the Oscar-winning spouses have yet to file for divorce or formal documentation with the court announcing a legal separation.” Really glad they mentioned that they were both Oscar winners, that just puts everything in a whole new perspective.
Are you surprised by this announcement?

Catherine Zeta-Jones is talking openly about her bipolar disorder and husband Michael Douglas‘ cancer, and it’s kind of heartbreaking. It’s good to know that they’re in a much better place in their lives. That place being her giant closet where she can hide and have some “me” time, as they say. From the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine via Daily Mail:
We spend a hell of a lot of time together, so we are careful to maintain our space. We recently had an extension built, to house a closet. It’s like the Tardis – I go in there and never come out.
Nice Dr. Who reference, C Z-J.
Bipolar is something I have been dealing with for a long time. [...] I wasn’t as strong as I thought I could have been. I look back and I can’t believe the strength he had.
They’ve definitely had an interesting couple of years recently. Glad he’s okay and good on her for having the strength to get help and then talk about it.

Catherine Zeta-Jones sought treatment again last month for her bipolar disorder, entering an unknown rehab facility in an effort to get it under control again. Luckily, she seems to be doing a lot better now and left rehab yesterday, according to her husband, Michael Douglas.
“She comes home tomorrow,” he told PEOPLE on Monday. “She’s doing a really good job of getting balanced. I’m proud of her.”
That sounds a little condescending, but I’m sure he didn’t mean it that way. As a couple, CZJ and Michael have been through quite a bit, what with his cancer and her mental health struggles. They seem to have a pretty solid relationship, which is always nice to see, especially in Hollywood.
Here’s hoping Catherine is back on her feet and feeling better. Bipolar II is no joke and can really knock you for a loop (yes, shout out to Demi Lovato on this one), so here’s to health for everyone.

Being a human being is an awesome thing – our bodies autonomously work for nearly a hundred years (if we’re lucky) without being hooked up to any power source or anything. We can walk and talk and have sex and run experiments and write books and all these wonderful things. Humanity is grand! Of course, anything so amazing has its downfall, and that comes in the form of illness of any kind, physical or mental. bipolar II disorder is one of them and it’s a damn shame that Catherine Zeta-Jones is struggling with hers once again.
Catherine entered a treatment facility again yesterday to get things under control. TMZ has the full report:
We’ve learned … the 43-year-old Academy Award winner checked in to the treatment center Monday … and is expected to complete a 30-day program.
Sources connected to the actress tell us … Jones’ stint in the treatment center is a proactive measure. As one source puts it, “It’s maintenance.”
FYI — Jones completed a stint at a treatment center in 2011 — at the time, her rep said Catherine had “made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder.”
I can’t even say anything snarky to this story – mental illness is a lifelong struggle and one that I hope she finds some more peace with during this round of treatment. And at least she’s got a good partner there to support her (I would hope) in Michael Douglas!

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have been married for 12 years, but there may well be trouble in paradise according to The National Enquirer, who claims they’ve been having a “hush hush trial separation”.
The Daily Mail has the rundown:
The Enquirer alleges that the marriage ‘buckled under the pressure of dealing with Michael’s cancer battle, his son Cameron’s incarceration on drugs charges and Catherine’s struggle with bipolar II disorder.’
The publication even claims that 68-year-old Michael ‘moved out’ of the home he shared with the 43-year-old actress and children Dylan, 12, and nine-year-old Carys, moving into a nearby rental property.
‘Michael said something to the effect that he and Catherine were taking a “time out”, and he was looking forward to having an entire house as his personal man cave,’ a source said.
According to the Enquirer, cracks began to publicly appear when Catherine was a ‘no show’ at a special screening of her father-in-law Kirk Douglas’s film Spartacus last year.
‘Michael made some lame excuse, but when she skipped the family dinner, it was obvious that something was not right,’ a source said. ‘I think he felt completely betrayed that Catherine didn’t show up.
Don’t you love when “a source” offers up so much valuable information for us all to see? How sweet of them. Of course, reps for CZJ and Michael Douglas have completed debunked this story and insisted that it’s not true, which it probably isn’t. The pair have been through a hell of a lot together between Michael’s cancer battle, CZJ’s struggle with depression and God knows what else. I think they’ll be just fine.
