Whoopi Goldberg Is Still Defending Bill Cosby

Sigh. You would think after all we’ve been through, after all we’ve seen and what we know now, we’d all be on the same page about this whole “Bill Cosby is a rapist” thing. Here’s the short version, in case you need a shortcut version:Bill Cosby is a rapist. He actually admitted in a recorded deposition to acquiring quaaludes he planned to give to women to coerce them into having sex with him; that’s an undisputed fact. So how could someone like Whoopi Goldberg, who has always been a staunch Cosby defender, actually sit there and CONTINUE TO DEFEND HIM? What universe are we in?!

Here’s what Whoopi had to say on The View on Tuesday, courtesy of US Weekly:

The Sister Act star, 59, waited for the others to weigh in before adding her two cents, at first jokingly recalling her own experiences with Quaaludes. “As a former Quaalude user…” she began. “The ’80s were…They weren’t fun for everybody, clearly.”

“We’ll see what happens as more information comes out. People will make judgments,” she continued. “I don’t like snap judgments because I’ve had snap judgments made on me, so I’m very, very careful…Save your texts, save your nasty comments. I don’t care.”

The comedy vet went on to say she would reserve judgment on the Cosby Show alum until there was further proof. “This is my opinion and in America, still — I know it’s a shock — but you actually were innocent until proven guilty,” she told the View audience. “He has not been proven a rapist.”

Why doesn’t Whoopi love herself? And why do I continue to expect better from her? This is, after all, the woman who claimed that women provoke men into hitting them. She’s a victim blamer to the extreme and I can’t imagine what has happened to this woman in her life to make her so hateful of her fellow women.

  • It is a really big leap to say he coherced these women, in the article you link it states: “That woman and a second woman testified in the same case that they knowingly took quaaludes from him, according to the unsealed documents.” and “The two other women who testified on Constand’s behalf said they had knowingly been given quaaludes.” I’m not saying he did or didn’t, i’m just pointing out, you really skew your reporting, this isn’t the first instance.

  • Umm…I’m just going on what CNN said. You should, too. He said he did it. Deal with it. Maybe he was some kind of role model for Whoopi when she was coming up, you know? It’s hard when you find out someone you admired so much has “feet of clay”…..or “feet of ‘ludes….

  • Whether the women agreed to the sex or not (and I don’t really think they agreed, not all of them, anyway. Why else would so many of them have basically the same story, about waking up, feeling confused?) Cosby was still married when the sex occurred. Which removed any semblance of a father figure, and makes him a bad person, in my opinion.
