It looks less and less like Rock and Roll each year, but never the less, it’s time to induct some musicians to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame again.
The qualification for being nominated is that it must be 25 years after an artist’s debut recording. Long gone are the days of needing to actually be rock and or roll. Enter Eminem.
Marshall Mathers is the only one of 17 nominees to get a nod in his first year of eligibility and would be only the seventh hip-hop act ever to be inducted, with Jay-Z being the last rapper entered.
“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture,” said John Sykes, head of the foundation that runs the Rock Hall.
Nominees are:
Dolly Parton
Eminem
Lionel Richie
Duran Duran
A Tribe Called Quest
Rage Against the Machine
Pat Benatar
Dionne Warwick
Carly Simon
Judas Priest
Beck
Kate Bush
DEVO
Eurythmics
Fela Kuti
