… Yay? Is that the correct response, “yay”? I’m really not sure.
Regardless of the emotions it stirs up, the news is the same: Brett Ratner resigned from his job as producer of next year’s Academy Awards, and after that, Eddie Murphy announced that he didn’t want to host the awards anymore, and now, the baton has been passed to Billy Crystal.
Billy broke the news by – what else? – tweeting about it:
“Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.”
This will be Billy’s ninth time hosting this deal, so I guess we can all feel comfortable about that. Excited though? I don’t know. I don’t want to speak for the rest of my generation, but I’m a bit too young to really appreciate Billy Crystal. Like, when I heard that he was going to be taking over as host, my first thought was “oh, cool, Monsters Inc.” And since there’s no mention of John Goodman co-hosting, I’m going to go ahead and officially not look forward to this again.
Am I way out of line here? Do we have any hardcore Crystal fans who are psyched at this news, or can we go back to being unimpressed?
Yes you are out of line he will do a great job but I wish he was joined by Robin Williams and Richard Belzer the show would go through the roof !
Billy Crystal hosted them in 2000, I believe, and did a good job.
On a separate and potentially controversial note, can I point out that Billy Crystal is starting to look like Doug Hutchinson??
Oh NOOOO … I see it.
