Ke$ha Makes it Pop on Ellen

Well, Sasha’s new favorite lady (and definitely one of mine as well) was on Ellen yesterday performing her new hit “Tik Tok”. Positives first? That girl was definitely not lip syncing. She clearly sang every word of that song herself or… it probably wouldn’t have sounded like that. In all fairness, that song seems particularly difficult to sing live, but yeah. Yikes. I thought she looked great, the audience full of moms, aunts and grandmas seemed to be tickled by her lyrics and she gave off the impression of being completely adorable in person, but the performance just wasn’t that tight. Especially when you consider the fact that she was performing her hit song. Hopefully she’ll get it on lock before her next live performance because she’s kinda too great to give a bad review.

  • I read the post before listening to the performance, and I think you were a little too critical of her. I thought the performance was fine considering she wasn’t lip syncing, and managed to do some choreographed dance moves and jumped around. The song itself isn’t meant to be an amazing vocal performance, it’s meant to be fun and I think she completely delivered.

    • My thoughts exactly! I was expecting some atrocious performance, but I kinda liked it. Maybe this post lowered my expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised!!

      • Yeah, I thought her performance was great. Her personality is fun and laid-back and that’s exactly how her performance came across. It’s exactly what I was expecting from her and I loved it.

  • Dont think she sounds bad, bored maybe but not bad! I think the worst bit is her choreography! Why is she doing the little skip/run thing (dunno how to describe that but whatev)?! And just the bouncing! Its a bit odd and like a school performance!
On the other hand i LOVE her hair colour – thats what i want, and the length, and her eye make-up is fantastic!! I love that! Her clothes are a bit ‘im a rebel…..from Topshop’-ish so that rubbish! But her hair and make-up gets a massive two thumbs up from me! (do people still ‘thumbs up’?!)

  • The ‘brush with my teeth with a bottle of jack’ line alone automatically makes me roll my eyes so hard it’s amazing i can stay on the road when I hear it on the radio.

  • She did good. I don’t think it was THAT bad, it wasn’t actually bad. It’s obvious that this girl isn’t Celine Dion or something, so I don’t expect that kind of quality from her music. It’s all about having fun, and this song IS fun. I liked it.

  • um.. sounded like a live performance of an electro-pop party song. exactly what i expected. i’d rather have a live performance than amazing vocals that someone is lip syncing to. and what did you expect it to sound like? the cd? i listened to that on itunes and all the vocals are so distorted that it’s kind of ridiculous to expect that.

  • This song sounds even more ridiculous performed live. I agree w/the other commentators that she didn’t really sound that bad at all. She was generally* in tune and there’s really nothing more you can ask for from a 20yr old pop tart.

  • Sounds like the equally shitty Millionaires.

I can’t believe this is the cool thing. It’s embarrassing.

  • I find it strange that you love this girl, but don’t like lady gaga or do enough research on her to know that gaga can actually sing, and not stumble all over the stage and try to “rap” about being badass.

This girl is the new Avril. She’s tried everything to get famous and decided to do this.

    just no.

    • I completely agree with you about the “Lady Gaga dislike/Ke$ha like” mismatch. That live performance of “Speechless” (where she rests her feet on the piano keys) is simply breathtaking.

  • I liked her performance. I give her props for singing live, but also the performance just felt very genuine and real. So many “musicians” these days over overly polished and practically plastic. They are just another star produced to make money. But I liked Ke$ha’s performance because, while some of her dance moves were silly, she seemed like a girl just having fun with her music.

  • I think pretty much the only reason she sounds bad is because she uses autotune you can gear it on the radio version so do be that hard on her

  • Honestly this is better than being force fed Justin Beiber by my two teenage daughters. This I can actually stomach.

  • Her and Lady Gags both suck. But atleast GaGa puts on a good show live, making her the less of two evils.

  • Her and Lady Gags both suck. But at least GaGa puts on a good show live, making her the less of two evils.

  • People who like this- are either A) on crack or B) 12 year old deaf kid. Totally made up by the man who owns all these radio and tv stations which brain wash it’s listeners/viewers till they like the song.

  • I think her biggest problem was that she was out of breath or sounded like it but that will be fixed later on in her career. She was mostly in tune but hopefully her preformance for tickets will get better and I’m sure they’ll me amazing when she goes on tour. This was in a studio, there’s not much one can do. Lady gaga already had experience when she went on ellen. I think kesha has good songs but then again I liked the millionaires. I still so but not as much because I listened to there cd so much I k ow every word to every song and it kinda got annoying. But I still can’t wait till they get there full album up on iTunes!

  • actually the live version is not that bad (different) when compared with her studio produced song. So the quality of singing is poor to mediocre but what do you expect from a dance/electro pop singer? I mean she doesn’t have the best voice, and I think she’s more like an acquired taste. I do like some of her songs because it’s beaty and you can dance to it. Which is probably also the same reason why other people like her songs.
