A flight attendant who worked on Oprah’s private jet is now suing her, claiming that she was fired over false allegations. Corrine Gehrls, says that two of Oprah’s other flight attendants, Myron Gooch and Kirby Bumpus (Bumpus happens to be Gayle King’s daughter and Oprah’s goddaughter), accused her of having sex with the pilot while all the passengers (including Oprah and King) were passed out on board after ingesting sleeping pills.
Both the pilot and Gehrls passed polygraph tests regarding the situation, but were not rehired, which seems slightly unfair to them. What would be fair? The 75,000 dollars she’s seeking from Gooch, Bumpus and Harpo Inc, Oprah’s production company.
Frankly, it sounds like Gayle’s daughter is trying to pull some weight due to a personal grudge and I wouldn’t be surprised if she made the whole thing up because she was sure it would infuriate Oprah enough to make her can both employees. What’s unfortunate is that two people, who have proven their innocence through a freakin’ lie detector test, that their names are personally and professionally marred by this accusation and that Oprah can’t see the light here, so to speak.
Gale’s daughter is probably pissed at her for naming her bumpus and is taking it out on someone else. Myron Gooch may also have some issues due to having to spend his life with that first AND last name.

Those names were actually so odd that I googled them before I commented, because I thought perhaps they were ‘code’ names that you had given them. Truth is always stranger than fiction.
Ha ha ha. Gooch. That is so funny. That last name would be a deal breaker for me!!
Bumpus and Gooch are both fairly common names where I live. :(

That picture of oprah is horrid and dontcha think she looks like aretha franklin in it.
Oprah is a private industry. She can hire and fire as she pleases. If, however, the sex story was leaked by someone under Oprah’s employ, they can sue for defamation blah blah blah.
Quit your bellyaching and write a tell-all book about Oprah and Gayle. If they signed a privacy clause when hired, this might be the leverage for a better severence package.
Lie detector tests have been shown to be about as accurate as flipping a coin. Seriously. It’s at about 51%. Exactly the reason they arn’t allowed in court. So I dont think they’ve been absolved.
And having known a few pilots in my day, those men routinely have sex with the flight attendants. Regardless of if it’s true, even a rumor is enough to warrant being fired. As said in Inglorious Bastards: I love rumors! Facts can be so misleading, where rumors, true or false, are often revealing
The chances of both involved parties being able to pass the lie detector test if they were actually lying is pretty fricken low. It’s not like they’re even suing for that much… I bet oprah will settle
“Lie detectors” don’t detect lies, just stress. Evidently some cons know how to confuse the results so that they aren’t useful. And even if you could detect a lie, you still don’t know why the person is lying.
That said, any Oprah employee who crosses Gayle’s daughter is likely to have a short shelf-life in O’s organization.
And ” Bumpus, Gooch and Harpo” sounds like a comic’s dream law firm. I was just thinking about funny names and then read this. I’d love to use these in fiction.
There is no way Oprah will lose this lawsuit. As much as she sucks as a person, she has as good as Presidential immunity. She never loses a case. This guy did a great piece on her, though:

I had read that the pilot was also a female, not just the Corrine Gehrls, flight attendant. And I don’t blame her for being a little p*ssed about it all.
But it is nice to know that Gayle’s child is also on the Oprah payroll. And can influence who gets fired too.
