Friday Fun: This Is How I Do My Makeup

Ever since I started posting videos on YouTube, I seem to get an endless stream of emails from you guys asking me how I do my eye makeup and what products I use. So I thought it would be a fun little Friday treat to do a little vid explaining all of this. I’m personally addicted to watching YouTube vids about how people do their makeup, so I’m delighted to add to the stockpile. Watch above to have all your questions answered.

To make it easier on y’all, the products mentioned here come from Marakele Minerals, Chanel, MAC and Bobbi Brown.

  • Beet–I love your makeup tricks. I actually have always done my eyeliner on the waterline, haha, so that was cool to see you do that also.

I do have a question: How do you get your teeth SO damn white?! They’re beautiful! And they’re not like freakishly unnaturally white, they’re just right. So what’s your trick?

    • That’s a good question! I think mostly I’m just lucky. I’ve had them bleached a couple times, but the last time was a year and a half ago. I don’t drink coffee and I rarely drink caffeinated soda (Coke, Pepsi, etc) so I think that probably helps. But in general I think I just got lucky on the teeth front. :)

      • Just one word of advice about the waterline and eyeliner- make sure your eye liner gets cleaned (the applicator or sharpen the pencil to take the old stuff off of it) often, because you can get an eye infection really easily by drawing a line on the interior part of your lid! B/c the moisture gets on the eye liner and then you cover it, it can spore bacteria and then you reapply it on your lid.. and well… grossness and pink eye and stuff can ensue. fyi!

  • Thanks that was super fun! I’m a sucker for Chanel products and packaging, myself. Your eyes look fantastic but just for fun, have you ever tried cat eye with your kohl? How about the classic red lip, that might be amazing with your black hair and dazzle teeth!

  • Are you kidding me? Your makeup is always a mess and not something 2 admire. you must have some HIDEOUS fans,, 4real

  • Your eye makeup looks beautiful here! If you like mineral cosmetics, you should try Jane Iredale. That is the company that first started making mineral cosmetics I believe. Anyways, they are like no other. I used to be a Chanel girl until I discovered this line.

  • Your foundation and lip gloss are perfect but the eye make-up is just too much. MAC was right about the Mylar white shadow, it’s distracting and no offence, immature. It’s a mistake a teenage girl would make. And the eye liner is just too heavy for your eyes. Even though your hair is black, you should use a brown instead to compliment your face better. Or at least pick one, the heavy eye liner or the distracting white shadow, but not both.

  • I agree.
    1. No one cares
    2. Your eye makeup is hideous and far too heavy
    3. Get over yourself, you actually look terrible in that video.

  • Yeah, you look like you’re going to a clown party with all that makeup on.
Don’t you have a personal blog for this kinda stuff? I didn’t think you even wrote here anymore. I guess you don’t really unless it’s about the Gosselan’s, American Idol, Lindsay Lohan or yourself. This site is slowly turning into Perez Hilton’s clone. Ugh.

  • jeez, people are needlessly cunty. I do think the eyeliner is a bit heavy and the white is a bit stark but it could be the lighting, but speaking of eyeliner, you can cause a lot of premature wrinkles by pulling on delicate skin around the eyes, especially when you’re lining the waterline/doing winged eyeliner.

    • About the wrinkles… elaborate?! I never heard of that and it makes me nervous! I’m not someone who wears much eyeliner but my skin is fair enough as it is, I’m super protective about it.. :(

      • Well, my mom is a dermatologist and she used to warn me even when I was a child not to rub my eyes too hard or squint/frown because I’d get premature wrinkles, and I never believed her thinking it was some stupid urban myth like the whole “your face will get stuck like that!” thing parents say to kids when they make ugly faces… and up until very recently, I used to tug on my eyelids (the outer corners) when putting eyeliner on, (it’s just easier to do that!) rub my eyes hard every time they itched, etc– and I swear to god I’m getting wrinkles. I’m 22. They’re extremely noticeable in photographs, particularly when I’m out in the sun, so yeahhhhhhh…. sucks.

Supposedly, using a good eye cream nightly will help prevent premature wrinkles, and definitely refraining from tugging or pulling around the eyes is a good measure to take if you’re worried :)

  • First thing I thought when I saw this (before reading what when along with it) “Who’s the clown???” I also thought “Is she 12?”

You wear way too much make up. Grown ups don’t wear that much.

  • Beet, I love you to death…so Im saying this as nice as possible. Your eyes look horrible. Waaay too much. The white it almost clown like. They were right when they told you not to get it. Youre beautiful, you dont need that much make up!

  • Girls make videos of how to put on makeup? That’s like guys making videos of different masturbating techniques. wait, lemme go check..

    • There are a couple that are actually good. Most are just amateurish. If you need the help, get a subscription to Allure.

And yucky, please don’t tell us if you found any self-help masturbating videos.

    • It would make more sense for females to be making videos on masturbating techniques, as there are way more ways for females to do it.

  • I think you’re a great writer and a down to earth person and as an intellectual writerly girl myself, I am addicted to the makeup videos too.

And anyone commenting mean shit needs to go back to whatever hole they crawled out of and mutter to themselves…. leave Beet alone. She’s cute and witty and doesn’t need your approval, idiots.

Thanks Beet. I have been reading this gossip blog for a year now, and it’s always fun. Not at all Perez-like, and everyone knows that.

    • Looking at your photo I wish you would become “addicted” to Plastic Surgery “videos” also.

      Your hideous!

  • This video was really cute, but I do agree that the bright white and all black is a little harsh. I can totally see this for going out make-up, though!

I’ve been using a navy blue eyeliner or brown and they are both really pretty, then I use a smoky purple shade and a little bit of light shimmery pink/cream for the eyebrow bone. Also, I tend to lean towards brownish-black mascara. I find that these toned down shades actually make a strong impact without looking overdone. Just some ideas!

    • Those colours sound great. I’m a pale blond with hazel eyes, my ideal mascara is more of a dark burgundy/eggplant colour. It’s a bitch to find. MAC made a great one a few years ago but it was seasonal.

      • Go to Sephora! I was just there and few of the brands they carry now have the burgendy and plum color mascaras that you’re looking for. Maybe it’s just seasonal since it’s kind of autumnal looking.

      • I have your same coloring and use a plum mascara from BeneFit. The color gives nice depth without being candy-colored teenage make up.

    • that’s great advice. what colour eyes do you have, do you find any of those liners bring out the colour more? I have greenish-blue eyes and i find dark plums work the best too just like PC, but i would like an alternative.

      • hah – I can’t tell who this is a reply to, but I’ll answer anyway! :]

I have green eyes, and I really love the way navy blue looks – it pops without being too overdone, and makes for a fun color when going out. Even just navy blue with a pretty shimmery cream colored eyeshadow is pretty in the daytime. I really like the idea of plum mascara, too – I’m going to have to try that!

Apparently blue eyeliners and natural toned smokey eyes are also trendy this fall – who knew!? a girl at beauty brands told me so. :P

  • Sweetie, you are so pretty naturally, that makeup only takes away the natural beauty. That said, its more like club/evening makeup than a daytime look to me. Can I make a request to get a vid of a more natural peachy look?

  • Omg, Beet, I love you! I come to this site EVERY DAY for my daily celebrity gossip fix. And I feel like I should tell you this: I think my boyfriend’s jealous that I come to this site like 4 times a day. In fact, he calls it “beetin’ off” when I’m on here. Hahahaha! He’ll come into the room and be all like “oh, so you’re busy beetin’ off?” hahahah! And then I’m all like “yup” (: And I LOVE your makeup! But I don’t even know if “Mylar” and “Marakele” exist in Sacramento. ): And I agree with the first commenter, katie, you’re teeth are ridiculously white, I love it!

    • Your name is Holly and you live in Sacramento? That’s super creepy.
Because my name is Holly and I live in the Sacramento area.

  • This is a stupid thing to put on this site, totally out of place. Don’t you have somewhere else for this kind of thing? That said, it’s your site and you have a perfect right to f— it up.

  • Okay.
    You have no upper lip.
Your eyes are too close together.
Your eyebrows are drawn too dark.
    Your earlobes are huge.
Your eye make up looks like what a 14 year old would do.
Your flirty way of speaking is annoying.
And we all know about your gigantic forehead.

    • what the fuck is wrong with people? does it make you feel better to point out someone else’s (usually nonexistent) imperfections? there was nothing constructive about that, it was just mean and clearly meant to hurt. if you need to feel better about yourself, which you clearly do, do it another way. you just sound pathetic.

    • what the fuck is wrong with people? does it make you feel better about yourself to point out someone elses (usually nonexistent) imperfections? your post was not constructive it was downright mean. you clearly need to feel better about yourself but go and find another way to do it, because this is pathetic.

  • I think when she says they didnt want to sell her the “Mylar” white mac eyeshadow in the store they were trying to nicely say, “that is usually what we sell to tranny’s and strippers” They start gently with, “its just too white” then in a desperate attempt to get her to listen to them they threw out the whole “stage makeup” thing. Too fuckin funny!

  • I think you should use more natural tones for your eyes. I would cut back on the eyeliner too because you can go from fierce to looking like a raccoon quickly. I think with your complexion the smokey browns with a touch of gold would be best. White is never a good idea for anyone, and with such dark eyebrows it really makes too much of a contrast. I also suggest when you make videos about makeup techniques use natural lighting because its very hard to see just how everything looks. And please remember that less is more.

  • You guys can be just so rude sometimes..

I actually like the make up, i am totally obsessed with youtube videos of girls teaching you how to do make up, nails and hair.. Fafinettex3 is very good, she’s kind of… weird.. She’s grown up but she acts and speaks like a baby, so it can get annoying, but she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to make up and hair, and i like that..

Oh Beet, hopefully you have learned not to take those kind of comments too seriously.. You look beatiful.

  • Ughhh why are people such bitches? I can appreciate it when somebody gives constructive criticism or feedback, but really? Some of these people need to calm the fuck down and go back to their caves.

  • Double checking the tag line to refresh my memory….yep…”It’s not personal. It’s just gossip.”

Sigh. How I long for those days.

  • Personally, I think it’s cool that Beet has her own style and does her own thing.
Make-up is a an art form of sorts. I don’t wear make-up at all unless it’s a special occasion. Although, sometimes I just get my make-up out and play with it to see what I can do with it. Wouldn’t it be boring if everyone did their make-up the same way, the way that YOU think it should be done? Why is it so exciting to rip into to someone for doing their own thing?
I do think that people are enjoying the opportunity to critique the critic.

  • Beet,

My image of you was totally blown after watching that vid.
I had seen your pictures before but never a video of you speaking.
Your writing is so intelligent, mature, insightful….etc….etc…I know you are a brilliant person, but I don’t care how intelligent you are it would be a major fucking pain having to be in your presence for more than a few minutes.
Your make-up was bad enough but now having witnessed both the look of the 13 year old that got into her mothers (who is a whore by the way) make-up and now this squeaky “like..like..like” shit, the combo has floored me.
Please no more vid’s. If I want to see that shit again I’ll go to the Food Court at the Mall.
Your always bitching about your love life.
The reasons why it may suck are no longer a mystery.
    Jeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzz…….

  • The make up is ridiculous. It’s campy. It’s immature. It’s valley girl. Why doesn’t anyone want to look pretty and natural anymore? Beet, you’re a beautiful girl but when you glop it on like that all your beauty is masked.
