Looks Like We May Be In Kansas Again

It looks like yet another classic is about to be fucked with Wizard of Oz is being remade.  It’s been tried before, without much success.  This attempt will feature Dorothy’s granddaughter — and word has it that Dakota Fanning will portray her — in a much darker version of the movie.  Warner Brothers has the rights — I’m so shocked Tim Burton isn’t involved with this project, but he isn’t — so I expect lots of action and special effects to completely ruin … uh, I mean to bring this classic story into modern-day viewing.

I think you all know how I feel about remakes at this point.  I’m willing to give this one my blessing if we can get Tom Cruise on the munchkin cast.

  • Heh… the way the second half of the first line is crossed out made me miss “The Wizard of” and all I saw was that “Oz” was being remade. Dakota Fanning as a maximum security prisoner? Amazing.

  • It hardly counts as a remake if they’re actually going with the book (silver slippers, anyone?) instead of the bizarre musical theater version.

    • That’s totally what I was thinking. I’d like to see a movie that was actually based on the books.
btw, the idea for this one kinda reminds me of Tin Man. Wasn’t DG Dorothy’s granddaughter in that one? It was also pretty dark.

      • You know thats how I like it, son. Thats why I always put extra sun screen on your precious ass hole. Mommy likes your ass nice, pale, and greased up.

Dont be late for diner, fuckmuppet :) I made ravioli!

  • There is a lot of Oz material from other books in the series that would make great movies. I’m going to go ahead and say that this could be pretty fantastic – the books were pretty dark and the original movie, while fantastic, was a very sanitised version of Baum’s vision.

  • Personally, I find this rediculous! Judy Garland is rolling over in her grave right now!!! I agree, there are several other storylines with which other movies could be made, but none will ever compare to the original! This is rediculous!!! And to all of you who have anything negative to say about the original movie, you all must have had very sad childhoods to not see the magic in it!

  • I think that this would be really great as long as it’s not like remaking the musical version. It’s different then. And if they’re doing Alice in Wonderland why not do the Wizard of OZ?

  • this isn’t going to be a remake…it’s a sequel… Baum wrote several books that were part of the Oz world, so this may very well be based off of one of them.

  • Wonderful!!! Now, I suppose it’s only a matter of time before some member of the current Hollywood “Illuminati” comes to the conclusion that the time has come to remake “Citizen Kane.” Just imagine what Orson Welles could have done with a modern three to four hundred million dollar budget and computer generated special effects. A pre-emptive word to Hollywood: It’s the story (that counts), stupid.
