A tipster points us to this little-known interview with Mischa Barton done in January 2009. At first she’s just rambling about hair products (she gets a pass there since it’s an Herbal Essences event), but around the 1:55 line she talks about her OC days — how she hated the show by the end and chose for her character to die. Then she says that she never sees any of the cast from the show anymore.
She doesn’t seem high or drunk, exactly, but something’s off. Hungover maybe? Or just the early, brewing stages of a complete break-down?
Wow, she’s actually kinda pretty. Usually in pictures she’s not that pretty. Also, I’ve used the hello hydration one too.
What I’ve always liked about MB is the fact that she’s honest in her interviews and unfortunately, it offends a lot of people sometimes. But oh well.

Yeah, She really does always look pretty when the camera is running. Not the most photogenic cookie! While I’d rule out street drugs, I wouldn’t rule out prescription pills. My guess is one of the “-pams”…clonazepam can make you look sort of melancoly and jump-start oversharing.
I really want to see the script from the OC one of these days with character descriptions, directions, etc. Although she sort of ALWAYS looks like a wounded doe, I’m wondering if Marissa was also suppose to be wounded-doeish. I always just chalked it up to baaaad acting but who knows.
you know, i don’t think she seems out of it. i guess i don’t see her interviews a lot, but she doesn’t seem noticeably messed up to me.

She definitely has gas. She’s trying to hold back burps. You can tell when she does those weird pause-and-swallows. Also, she has to take a dump. Notice the fidgeting? She’s prairie dogging.

yeah, I was gonna way she just seems a little like she’s going to vomit. Maybe she was sick. That’s what it seems like to me. She sounds a little hoarse or stuffy or something too.
I don’t really pay that much attention to MB…but she seems very sedate and sad in this interview…Maybe she was in a weird mood, or maybe she’s struggling with depression. In either case, I wish her well.
I’m just gonna let it out right now, woe betide me; I used to love Mischa before she got all this bad press. I was never a fan of the OC but I admired her personality and I think she’s one of the prettiest women out there. Fair enough, she’s not so photogenic, but on screen she’s gorgeous and in every photo shoot she’s stunning. She suffers from cellulite, but who the hell doesn’t? Why must people chastise her for a problem most, if not all women suffer from to some degree? No wonder she’s had a breakdown. And why should we care if she’s gained a few pounds.
Arguing against the tabloids is stupid I know and this trite argument can be used in conjunction with many other celebrities, but this comment is for myself more than others. I’m going to quit feeling ‘lame’ for liking Mischa ‘orange peel/overdose/awful accent’ Barton and stop cringing at all the awful pictures printed of her, she’s only human! At times like this she needs her fans, and I’m not afraid to say I am one.
I think she sounds like she has a cold which could mean she was on some cold medicine.
Lord knows that makes me seem a bit off.
She wasn’t that bad though and seemed pretty normal and honest which is refreshing.

I liked what she said about the OC writing being harder to act it. That show sucked after the second season. It was terrible plots even for a night soap.
I hope she gets and stays well. She is too young for this shit. Maybe if some one 5150’d Michael Jackson he would be alive. Just a thought.
I thunk she just looks really really tired- like maybe she has insomnia issues- that stuff can really mess with one’s head after awhile- sleep deprivation and shit.

The dark circles could just be from the fact that she’s SO F-ING SKINNY. That interview screamed “eating disorder!” to me. Look at how many layers she’s wearing, yet she’s being interviewed outside, so chances are it was warm. Remember how thin she was in the O.C. days? And how she started gaining weight back until about a month before the breakdown when she dropped like 20 pounds overnight?
Drugs, maybe, but Christ. I’d be out of it too if I consumed 500 calories a day. I get cranky if I miss lunch. I’d probably go nuts too if my living depended on me losing weight.
You know, besides any drugs or alcohol she consumed the night before this interview, generally, she just comes off as sad and unhappy.
