Today's Evil Beet Gossip

In An Effort To Bring You Something Non-Michael Jackson Related

Needless to say, most of the celeb news is about Michael Jackson today.  But there are other things happening in the world that require coverage.  Such as Perez Hilton getting shut down by the Matthew Shepard Foundation.  It’s been a tough week for that dude.

Perez issued an apology for using a slur against homosexuals and vowed to donate all monies received from the lawsuit he’s filed against’s manager to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.  Despite his pledge, the foundation is rejecting his donation.

Here is the statement Judy Shepard, Matthew’s mother, as posted on the foundation’s website:

The Matthew Shepard Foundation was surprised to learn this morning via media reports that blogger Perez Hilton (Mario Lavandeira) has announced he plans to donate, to our organization, the proceeds of a lawsuit he is contesting over an altercation which has been widely reported in recent days.

We had no advance notice or contact from Mr. Hilton or his representatives regarding this proposal, nor any communication since he posted this plan to his website.

We do not know the details of the lawsuit, whether it has been filed, the nature of his claims or the likely outcome. But because the lawsuit presumably involves the physical attack prompted by Mr. Hilton’s admitted use of an anti-gay slur, the Foundation will be unable to accept any funds obtained in such a manner.

We very much appreciate the generosity of the offer to support our continuing work to memorialize Matthew through activism in defense of sexual minorities and in favor of understanding, compassion, and acceptance. But because so much of our work involves education to reduce the use of hateful language against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, or those so perceived, it would be inappropriate for us to benefit financially from circumstances in which such a verbal attack was involved.

While we applaud Mr. Hilton’s apology to the LGBT community and their loved ones for his use of such a slur, we also feel compelled to point out that use of epithets can often lead to physical violence, as it appears it may have in this case, and that the Matthew Shepard Foundation has worked for more than 10 years to bring to people’s attention the consequences of hateful or inolerant language.

  • He is a disgusting fame whoring imbecile. He thinks he comes across as informed and “intelligent” but he is sooooo far from what he thinks he is. He’s a bug I’d like to squish. Strong feelings for someone I’ll never (thank GOD!) have to meet, but he just brings out the worst in me.

  • This woman is my HERO!!!!!!! Wow wow wow i hope people stop going to his site…i have months ago. thank fuck for beet! You guys are awesome…you have way better gossip and you make me laugh…Perez just made me sick…….hes a fucking DOUCHE TARD and deserves all of this..Ain’t Karma a BITCH? :))))))))

  • This week just seems to be getting worse for him (not to turn this back into MJ news), as when the news actually broke of MJ being rushed to the hospital, Perez posted a story about how MJ “pulled a similair stunt…in ’95” when he was to perform a big show, including a picture with the words something along the lines of ‘cold feet or heart attack’. Of course he edited and removed the whole thing, but it is preserved in the comments section.

Needless to say, though I’d considered it for awhile previously, I am officially done with anything Perez. There’s been some further backlash, as many, many people had seen the original comments, and are no longer bothering with his site / implying he got what he deserves earlier this week.

    • I’m done with him too. Will never go to his website again-took him off my bookmarks. Isn’t the comment section of his website the worst?!

      **boycott Perez**

    • Here’s what you are talking about.

I saw it getting passed around twitter yesterday with the tag #unfollowperez. Unfortunately this was during the time Twitter had to temporarily halt their Trending Topics sidebar because of traffic. Maybe we can get it going again today so people can see just how awful he really is.

I stopped going to his site over a year ago because I started to feel slimy, for lack of a better word, after visiting and reading his posts and some comments. I just advertisers, thought I know they won’t, will soon follow and start to pull their support.

  • BRAVA, Judy Shepard!!! Well done. I hope this is the beginning of the end of Perez Hilton, but I am afraid that another unfortunate by-product of Michael Jackson’s sad passing is that it will take the focus off of Perez Hilton’s disgusting words and actions while providing him a huge story to increase his website traffic.

  • perez is a b-face, and I was sickened by his little video. The guy had it coming, he is nasty and a prick….

  • Honestly Perez Hilton is a persona…He doesn’t really get under my skin like he seems to with everyone else. Yes he can be mean, yes he can be annoying, but that’s what makes him who he is… and a lot of other bloggers can be mean and yes at times cruel too ( I won’t name names here). I won’t lie, I read him and find him entertaining. Do I agree with what he said, no I don’t. But he appologized, and I think it was a great way to do so. Why not make a donation to the Matthew Shepard foundation. What better way to appologize then to put your money where your mouth is and make something good come out of all this bad drama. Personally I think people are being hypocritical (sp) but like I said, this is my oppinion, and no one has to agree.

    • How are people being”hypocritical”? You know what I think is being a hypocrite-the Isaiah Washington situation. Perez crucified him for using the f****t word and spearheaded him to be released from Grey’s. Yet when Perez used the word and got into hot water(and apologized, like Isaiah), he reached out to him(Isaiah) and all is forgiven. Nothing like walking in someone else shoes to see the light! Live and learn I guess :-)

      • I knew I would get hated on. I wasn’t there is all I’m saying. Did he say something totally f’ed up. Yes. I’m not saying he didn’t. But you know what I do when somone calls me a name? I walk away. I know, it’s a hard concept for some people. But walking away and not gettiing violent is usually the best thing to do. I don’t understand why it’s sooooo crazy for some to actually walk away and not throw puches. Lame.

      • Not “hated on” at all. I was wondering what was hypocritical? I agree about walking away, but to file a lawsuit over it is ridiculous(IMO).

    • It doesn’t matter if Perez is a persona or not, Perez is what he portrays to the public and Perez is who got him into trouble. He deserves all that is coming to him.

And as Jen said, no one is being hypocritical here except Perez.

      • Whatever Robin. If you believe that, then it’s all you…hope you don’t say something to the wrong person one day, but then again…you might of had it comin. So wrong.

      • You still haven’t explained why you think people are hypocritical. Unless you meant hypercritical. That would make sense.

      • WTF? Robin is right on. Perez, that little whiney bitch, should have sucked it up and walked away. he deserves ALL of this.

  • No, the thing that would really show he understood would be to drop the lawsuit altogether. His verbal attack led to the physical attack. Learning that he should choose his words more carefully and that entertaining doesn’t equal mean would be a great start. Learn it and move on. Done.

  • Im not a fan of his. I’ll admit, I do go on his website when I’m bored at work and his blogs are really hateful. For some reason he’s a nominee for the 2009 WebStar at the Teen Choice Awards. I don’t think someone who puts badly drawn penises on celebs along with jizz shots should be a nominee. If you go here you can vote to have him removed as a nominee before August. DO IT!

  • GOOD!
Maybe it’ll teach Perez that you can’t act like an asshole and then throw money at the situation.

  • While this is about how much Perez is hated PLEASE take a minute to send a contribution to The Mathew Shepard Foundation. It will make you feel good.

  • Well wtf? where’s all the people giving us shit the other day because we said Perez provoked the whole situation and that he should have known better? Now somebody else’s said it and it’s all fine and everyone agrees… What a buncha bullshit.

I’m glad they wont accept his dirty money, and that he’s making a clown of himself for even trying. I can’t stand the bastard, i swear..

  • I know, I know, I know it’s wrong — I know there is no excuse for physical violence. But I just can’t help it — I don’t feel one bit bad that Perez got punched in the face. He is an obnoxious, whiney, disgrace to the GLBT community. I think he should just shut the hell up, and stop speaking out on behalf of GLBT rights, because he just annoys people (at best).

  • I hate Perez and that he pulls out the gay card when he gets popped for using a gay slur, well missy the shoes don’t fit so well on you now pudgy. It makes my heart so glad that GLADD and the Matthew Shepard Foundation swatted him down like a fly, he’s done more to hurt the gay community than the Westboro Baptist Church, Perez is getting what he deserves and that is his little pet friends in the music and entertainment industry are turning their backs on him. It’s his worse nightmare but his little tweet drama with Wentz and Ashley Simpson along with John Meyer was vastly entertaining to watch, Pete’s not an idiot, who knew? I a glad that he’s on the downside of being the king of tards, because advertisers are going to have to flee from his blog, his lies and his hideous personality that showed through that night. He is exactly what I always thought he was. I don’t think it’s the last punch to the head he can expect either.
