“Uh, you know, probably.”

Adam Lambert, when asked during a press conference whether his sexuality affected the voting on American Idol.

  • It was his screeching Beet, sorry. He was just too polarizing and that is what did him in. There was no middle ground for him to gain supporters and all the Gokey fans jumped to Kris once he was eliminated.

    • I disagree. It probably was his sexuality, combined with the fact that Kris was from the south. There’s no way anyone in the deep south is going to vote for a gay guy (especially an obviously gay guy) on a normal day. Give them a candidate that’s not gay from their own part of the country and they’re all going to vote for him, even if he’s not the better singer.

      • from the south?! maybe a vast minority still supports such ignorant thinking but for me personally i thought adam was a super nice/interesting guy i just could NOT stand his screaming. I would agree with the earlier comment of adma being too polarizing. definitely not an issue of sexuality.

      • Amazing the amount of bigoted vitriol that’s acceptable- as long as it comes from a liberal… try to wrap your progressive mind around this: the better singer won! How many votes did the gay guy get BECAUSE he’s gay?

  • wow. it was only a matter of time before this crap started.

adam lost because he’s not as widely likeable as kris; in terms of talent, appearance, personality, the list goes on. it’s NOT to say that he’s not a great talent, a good-looking guy with a good personality, but i feel he came off as obnoxious or arrogant at times. sorry.

  • I think it’s kind of ridiculous to reach for all of these excuses to explain why your favorite didn’t win American Idol, Beet. He wasn’t robbed. There wasn’t any trickery. America votes on who they’d rather listen to and who they’d rather see on their TV screens, and Adam just didn’t fit.

It is a popularity contest, and the other guy is just more popular.

    • And before anyone says anything, I know that this post is about a quote that he said, but a lot of this is based off of the twitter/posts from after the Idol finale.

      • No one said he was robbed or that there was a trickery, that’s you speaking. We are just saying that people actually voted for Kris just because he was straight, period.

Besides, I live in the other half of the continent and people don’t know who Kris is, but everyone in this place knows who the gay AI contestant is, and they are talking shit about him already.

Tell me it didn’t affect him.

  • ok americas plan was to get this gay guy all the way to the finals just to stick it to him in the end? i dont remember being in on this……

  • I think it’s more likely that Adam won but the producers gave the title to the other guy so there would be some drama involved with the show and to keep people talking. Let’s not forget the show is losing popularity… how else do they try to remain relevant?

      • Asswipe. She obviously saw it once and commented. How do you know she looks at it frequently?

    • I don’t know why this pic makes YOU sick, but it makes me go “ew” because of their public suck face session. Even if a man and a woman were doing that, I’d still think it was disgusting.

I still love Adam tho. :-D

      • Are you sure it was public? Just because it was photographed and outdoors doesn’t mean everyone all around could see it.

  • WAIT A SEC. Adam is from San Diego, right? I think I know that guy he is kissing… small world indeed (if it’s true).

  • To be honest, being # 2 is simply one final long less than # 1. The # 2 contestant really isn’t eliminated or “sent home” like everyone else, so they are hardly scorned.

I think Kris kept getting better throughout the season. Adam peaked about a month ago, but stayed pretty strong. I loved his “Mad World” and “Ooh Baby Baby”, but found his shrieking and drama a little too Broadway and melodramatic. I believe America may have found that Adam’s talent came too easy for him, and that Kris had to earn it a bit more. I don’t think sexuality matters as much anymore to those under 35—probably about 80% of the vote.

Plus, Kris needed the win a little more than Adam. Adam will be fine, singing for Queen or starring in a musical. Kris needed a little more validation. BTW—I liked Danny best he reminded me of another 3rd place soulful white boy—Elliot Yamin.

  • I think he lost because he’s just too darn sexy, gay or otherwise. He’s like Prince was back in the 80s, so sexy that even the straight boys got butterflies. America wants a harmless idol. They don’t mind if you overuse the high-pitched screech or you’re gay or different as long as you’re innocent-ish and non-threatening. Adam just….has a dark-sexy-dangerous-unpredictable-mysterious side. He’s too much for mainstream America.

Love him. Love his talent and his take on songs, esp Mad World and Ring of Fire. And yeah, he pretty much makes me wish I were a cute gay boy. Damn this pesky vagina! Damn it all to hell!

  • Sweet little GLAMBERT doesn’t need AI to get where he’s going—to the top! He’ll out sell Chris and be around much longer, he may out sell everyone even 14M Carrie Underwood. I find the purple haired kiss with this lucky guy so SEXY because it seems Adam gives 100% in his kissing just like he does in his singing. Gay is sometimes SEXY: David Bromstad-HGTV, NATE (the decorating/styling genius) who appears on Oprah and OVER THE MOON, Adam Lambert! I don’t think any of us girls are so niave to think we’d have a chance with these adorable men but they sure are thrilling to watch and who knows they may also be BI. Well, we can dream, can’t we?

  • Um, obviously Beet you haven’t read this –

Seacrest: Let me ask you this: The speculation about your sexuality, do you think that had anything to do with coming in second place?

Lambert: No, I think if anything, I think it — I think my lifestyle is just I’m different. I’m a little bit — I’m not your typical guy next door. The guy next door versus the guyliner. Sexuality aside, I think it more had to do with maybe my appearance and what songs I gravitated toward and my performance style. I think that had more to do with it.

    Got if from CNN.

    • Well what is he supposed to do? Say the truth and make it seem like he’s a whiny 12 yo boy going “that’s not fair!!! people didn’t vote for me cuz I’m gay! waaaaah!!” ?

  • I don’t watch AMerican Idol anymore- but I did happen to catch a clip of Adam singing and it would be really fudged up if his sexuality had anything to do with him being cut!
