Chris Brown Removes His Name from Kids Choice Awards

Well, at least he seems to be vaguely aware that he’s in the midst of being prosecuted for domestic violence. That’s a start.

A day after Nickelodeon refused to bow to growing public pressure and remove the felonies-facing artist from its list of nominees, Brown himself has withdrawn his name from consideration for his dual slimey honors.

“Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song,” his spokesman said.

“Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated.”

Still, despite the network’s earlier holdout, Nickelodeon now says they “agree with” Brown’s decision to pull out.

“We are confirming that Chris Brown has decided to withdraw his nominations from the Kids’ Choice Awards,” they said in a statement. “We agree with and respect his decision and are looking forward to presenting a great event for our audience.”

Brown’s announcement to withdraw his name from competition also comes in the wake of massive parental backlash against Nickelodeon, with a Twitter group launching a 3,000-signature-strong online petition to ban Brown from the kid-determined awards show.

His departure also comes in the wake of an entry posted to Brown’s MySpace blog earlier this month, urging fans to vote for him for the awards.

Um, yes. Beating your girlfriend to a pulp DOES tend to change public focus. It’s very unfortunate. It could have been less unfortunate had Chris decided to use the tools we teach in pre-kindergarten and use his words. UNFORTUNATELY, he’s too much of a loser douchebag for that.

Thoughts?

  • I can’t believe Nickelodeon kept him on, even with all the disaproval and petitions from parents. EVEN with the fact that he beat up his girlfriend! It just goes to show how messed up the entertainment industry is and how willing they are to support a guy who beats women.

  • The spokesman needs to learn how to write a press release- Chris Brown has respectfully withdrawn his name from the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award. He thanks his fans for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
    There ya go.

  • In a world where a gold medalist gets sponsorship deals yanked for a picture of him puffin some grass…

But THIS donkey has to pull his OWN nomination out of a competition?

I think we’re in bizarro world.

  • Better late than never.
Afraid that he will only suffer minor slap on the wrist criminally, and then 6 months from now some other catastrophe or scandal will be in the news – and the world will forget their outrage at this bung-hole. Looks like his life-size rag doll already has.
Sigghhhh…only the wicked seem to keep coming up roses.

  • I have worked on a Nickelodeon show and they would not have let it pass. You can be sure they told him that he had to remove his name but they let him save face and make it look like it was his idea.

  • I was astonished that Nick was going to include him. What happened to responsible guidance? But what I really am disgusted with his attitude – Like, why do I have to actually suffer some sort of reprocussion?!?! That’s unjust!!!

    Douchetard.

  • I actually think this whole situation will hurt Rihanna’s career more than his. Rihanna looks like a moron for going back to him after what he did to her and people have lost all respect for her. In the black community Chris is actually viewed as “more of a man” for attacking her as sick as that is so I don’t imagine there will be much damage to his career at all. Nickelodean should be ashamed of themselves for promoting this depravity to kids.

  • First of all. This ended the only way it could. It had to come from him.
Second, and this is a delicate subject I understand. They BOTH are dirty in this. She assaulted him and he grossly overreacted. Violence is wrong for BOTH of them. She should have walked away and dumped him. She should not have lashed out physically at him and he should not have done what he did. Violence is never the answer for the guy OR the girl.

    • I study martial arts and when we focus on self-defence, we’re taught to keep in mind our attacker. If someone is much bigger than you and attacks you, fight back with all your strength and run away as soon as possible. If attacked by someone smaller and weaker than you, defuse the situation. Don’t beat their face to a pulp.

She’s not dirty in this. She got her ass beaten by that asshole.

  • I love the statement “the focus shifted from the music.” The focus is that he beat a woman to a pulp causing her to lose consciousness.

  • hi chris brown you so sexxy i love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my baby so bye i sent my kiss
