Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Devastated, Really.

lifeonmars

Listen, guys.  Normally I don’t work this late in the day.  But I found out this news a little while ago and I don’t know where else to take it except here.  I’ve been bitching about it for the past hour on my Facebook.  Life On Mars got the ax.  Wait-Life On Mars got the ax but Two And A Half Men got renewed.  I don’t know what alternate universe I am in, but someone, anyone, please come get me.

Someone, anyone, explain this to me.  Please.  I am beside myself right now.  I know it’s only a television show but this is Sam fucking Tyler we are talking about.  One of my friends tried to explain it to me this way:  “Life On Mars is too progressive for the standard American audience that looks to tv as a way of avoiding their own dreary lives.”

There must be something that can be done about about this fuckery.  I’ll do anything to stop this.  I will give oral to Mischa Barton if that’s what it takes.  I’m not kidding.

  • This is EXACTLY why I won’t give new shows a chance! I get emotionally invested and those fuckers pull it on me. I could rattle off a dozen shows of mine that were pulled abruptly. THAT SHIT HURTS! Now, I wait until 2,3,4 or 5 seasons have passed and then I get them on Netflix. Perfect examples: my current series: Rescue Me; Also: Big Love, Weeds, Dexter, Entourage, Nip/Tuck, The Shield, The Wire (BEST. SHOW. EVER!)

I just don’t get why these network executives think I’d EVER trust them again. I. Won’t.

  • I gave my heart and soul to Life on Mars too, girls. I gave them the best night of my week, while the rest of the week I fantasized that Sam Tyler would time travel into my panties. That show is fucking amazing!!! (can i say fuck here??) sorry if I cannot, but I am MAY-JA-LEE upset about this bull shit. Every tiny aspect of “Life on Mars” is perfectly scripted — the music rocks your socks off, the dialogue is witty, funny and emotional — and they’ve hooked us with this science fiction plot that usually I would run the other way entirely from — but THIS IS GOOD SHIT, PEOPLE. Who makes these decisions?? Do they not care about the avid viewers?? Is the the viewers fault, because most Americans are IDIOTS and maybe they didn’t clue into what a fan-freakin-tastic show LOM is????? I’m hurt, confused, depressed…I just want to sob uncontrollably (in Sam Tyler’s arms). waaaaah.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOO. Damn it, I hate when t.v. networks do this. I LOVE THIS SHOW. The networks take all the really good shows off and keep all the reality crap on. Goes to show you the general mentality of the viewing public.

  • Two and a Half Men continues to survive because everyone my parents’ age watches that damned show and any other crap CBS throws up. I actually refer to CBS as Codger Broadcasting Station and I refuse to watch anything that they air. I’ll wait for CSI reruns on Spike before I’ll give CBS a lick of my time.

    • I defended Two and a Half Men to Wendie, and I will do so to you as well. It’s certainly not specifically aimed at that old of an age bracket. It’s consistently among the top viewed shows for ages 18-49, which is quite a breadth of viewership. You may not find it humorous, but obviously plenty of people do, because it consistently brings in ratings. And that is why it’s been renewed.
And if you think CSI is a “younger” or “hipper” show, I’ll say that you’re delusional and probably only feel the way you do BECAUSE Spike happens to air it in syndication. I know more people “my parent’s age” who watch all 500 CSIs than who watch Two and a Half Men.

      • Never said CSI was hipper or younger. Just said I watch it on Spike and don’t give my time to CBS. I’m not sure how that’s delusional. CSI certainly isn’t Matlock or Murder She Wrote; but I know it’s not hip or edgy.

And I don’t find Two and a Half Men funny. It’s just another irritating CBS comedy that finds homophobia and insulting women to be high comedy. King of Queens, Raymond, Still Standing. . .the list goes on and on.

I grew up with a crush on Jon Cryer and I usually like Charlie Sheen.

      • Just to note, I’m fifteen and Two and a Half Men is one of my favorite shows. It’s not deep or well-made, admittedly, but it makes me laugh, and it gives me something to look forward to each weeknight.
        It’s a nice show.

    • my parents love that show too! it kills me, it is so dumb and the theme song makes me want to slit my wrists.

  • When they pulled pushing daisies i stop watching tv all together except for gsn.
    That’s right.
I watch game shows and that is it.

  • I am devastated – I love this show and I was getting emotionally attached to Sam Tyler! Damn it ABC!

  • I can’t find the words…it’s so sad. Great fucking show…and they cut it? WTF is two and half men? Is that like “my two dads” but with a boy in it? We should all write angry bitch letters to the network. I’m not taking this siting down…

  • I loved the show too, but where I live it was on at 10 o’clock and I was too tired to make it through the hour. [I don’t have TiVo or DVR]

  • Really? Two and a Half Men?
I suffered through a few episodes of it with my mom and I seriously think that it’s the same story line over and over again.
Life of Mars however is a show that has an interesting plot, and a main character that stole my heart.

  • I know. I really like that show and I’m tired of boring reality shows or unfunny, formulaic sitcoms getting renewed.

    This really does suck.

  • Try watching the UK version – I think its available on Surf the Channel.com – its only 2 seasons but they go through the whole story arch and Sam figures out what happened to him. There is also a full season of Ashes to Ashes – a Spinoff featuring Gene Hunt in the 80s also full season available online, but premiering in the US on BBCA this week i think

  • I would like to see Wendie do one post without using the F word 2or 3 times. Do you use that mouth around your kids?

  • Showed get renewed and canceled based on the ratings of a random sample of the population. People participating in Nielsen surveys let the networks know what people are watching. Sometimes these samples do not really generalize to all TV viewers. This is how popular shows like Family Guy have been canceled.

  • never knew what this show was about, so never gave it a chance. maybe not enough viewers were aware it was a good show.

  • are you joking? that show sucked. that stupid hippie that lived down the hall? who acts like that? nobody. it had some really good actors, which i couldn’t really understand, i liked christopher soprano’s mustache, that was about it. i hope they cancel brothers and sisters next . CRAP! try renting the wire or extras or something decent.

  • Sometimes I do like the american versions. Queer as Folk, The Office..
Sometimes they are terrible. Coupling, Life On Mars..

I can not believe people actually liked the US version of Life On Mars. I watched the first few episodes but it was so BAD. They should’ve just showed you the UK version. That one is amazing.

  • I can highly recommend the UK version of Life On Mars. I watched the whole thing over a weekend, then again a month later. It’s very good indeed.

Ashes To Ashes, not so much. It was a disappointing followup, IMO.

    • Oh yes, John Simm as Sam Tyler is pure bliss. The last episode was brilliant, it made me sad and happy at the same time.
