Ne-Yo: Chris Brown “Still My Homeboy”

R&B singer, Ne-Yo, wants the world to know that, though his buddy Chris Brown beat the hell out of Rihanna, he’s not willing to judge.

“I saw the picture,” Ne-Yo said of the leaked photograph of a battered Rihanna. “That just really hurt me to my heart, man. Again, I still don’t know what happened, ’cause I haven’t had the opportunity to talk to Chris yet. But to take it to that level really hurt my heart. All I can say is, I’m praying for both of them. They’re both in my prayers.”

While Wrigley’s Gum and numerous radio stations have been quick to part ways with Brown, Ne-Yo isn’t as anxious to turn his back on an old friend. “I’m not going to crucify him. I’m not going to do that. That’s still my homeboy at the end of the day,” Ne-Yo said. “For it to go to that level was wrong. I won’t say who was responsible. I won’t pick no sides. I’m just saying it was wrong it had to happen like that, and I’m praying for the both of them.”

“I won’t say who is responsible,”?  Uh, does he think Rihanna bashed herself in the face?

I’m sorry but  I feel that there is a time when you have to be brave and draw a line and take a stand and do every other cliche that equals “not gonna take it”.  This is one of those times.  “For it to go to that level was wrong,” and “…it was wrong it had to happen like that,” sounds minimizing to me.  People look up to celebrities; I have no idea why, but they do.  So, Ne-Yo and all these other fencesitters have a responsibility to send the message that violence, under any circumstance is not okay.

I’ve forgiven Ne-Yo for a lot.  I forgave him for being on that hellacious Rosie O’Donnell variety show.  But this…I don’t know.

  • I dont think that Chris Brown needs to be shunned by all his friends too. Yeah what he did was totally wrong, but I think this thing is getting annoying. I am tired of hearing about it. just because this guy is famous it is this big atrocious thing? This shit happens EVERY DAY to regular women everywhere, not just Rhianna. I am just tired of reading about how awful Chris Brown is- I would rather hear what is going to happen to him.. you know, JAIL and all- not so much what his friends think. What do you expect them to do? just completely abandon him? Yeah he did something wrong but we shouldn’t start hating the friends that try to stick with him. I mean suppose you did something completely wrong and then all of the sudden your friends (or people you thought were your friends) are going on TV and talking about how much they hate you now. without even talking to you about it- that would be such a trick move! I would hate Ne-yo even more if he had been like, ‘oh yeah, Chris Brown- I hate that guy now, even though I have not spoken to him since the whole thing’

    • My husband and I ditched a friend (he was best man at our wedding) because we learned he likes to get push-y and choke-y with his girlfriends. He’s not longer welcome in our home. That’s one thing I can’t condone.

I’m glad this is getting a lot of publicity because hopefully young girls going through this will read this and realize there’s hope for them, they can get out. I was 16 when I had an abusive boyfriend. I knew it was wrong and not my fault but it was hard to get away from him. This would’ve helped me.

    • That is the most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard.

Are you really serious when you say that all you wanna hear about is his jail time?? Yes domestic violence happens EVERYDAY all over the world unfortunately, but NO ONE talks about it. When you have a celebrity go through with it, it shines a light on it that has never been lit by the media.

The fact that showbiz is doing all it can to shine the light on this controversy, is incredible because this issue can finally have an opinion by viewers and hopefully can change for all those women who have suffered.

The fact that you think Chris Browns friends shouldnt hate him after this incident is repulsive. That’s like if my bf beat me up and all his friends back him up. THATS RIDICULOUS! The beating stands on HUMAN RIGHTS not friends or “homeboys”. If a human purposely hurts another human (ESPECIALLY IN A RELATIONSHIP) then that is COMPLETELY wrong and inexcusable, as well as saddening.

  • The quote on my local radio station was completely different. He said something like he had seen them go through bad times and has seen them kiss and make up but this is unexcusable. The readio also said he said he would like to sit down with Chris Brown and tell him that is not how a real man would treat a woman… something along those lines. THAT story made me gain some respect back for Ne-Yo. I was thinking it’s about time one of these men didin’t defend him. Now this quote I don’t know… not saying he should hate Chris Brown but I do agree that in the above posted quote he minimized the situation. And that’s not cool

  • Does anyone else have “cops” running through their head everytime this is mentioned? I keep hearing that woman yelling as the cops are dragging her husband way “but I love him”

  • I really don’t think Ne-yo meant for it to come out that way. It’s really just a sticky situation, and it’s probably best that their friends don’t talk to the media about it. They always end up sticking their foot in their mouth.

  • Im so sick of hearing “my heart goes out to BOTH of them” or “its a sad situation for both.”

BOTH SHOULD NOT BE IN THAT SAME SENTENCE PEOPLE! And by people I mean those idiotic celebrities who give half-ass statements on this issue.

Rihanna was the one that suffered! Not Chris Brown. The fact that no one is saying “My heart goes out to Rihanna, this is a sad and horrific situation for her” is absolutely repulsive!

People should not feel “sorry” for Chris Brown. Its Rihanna thats the victim, not both!

  • Another misogynistic “hip-hop star” who needs to be boycotted. Hip-hop is all about narcissism and misogyny so this should be no suprise to anyone.

  • I’ve heard a couple of rumours about Rhianna wanting Chris back, and getting in touch and the like. The sad thing is, I believe it, because you could see how into eachother they were before, and so many battered women go back again and again.

I think this has opened the eyes of a lot of people; fame comes at a price, and as much as I realise Rhianna has a personal life beyond the glare of the paps, I think this would be a huge kick in the teeth to battered women (and men) everywhere if she went back to him. I think people would lose a lot of respect for her.

  • remind me to boycott both of them now

im not going to listen to anything chris brown. im not going to pay for his laywers.

  • Ahh leave Neyo alone he didn’t do anything. He didn’t take sides He said what chris brown did was unexusable He feels for Rhianna like come on ?! What else what he supposed to say?!

Isn’t it true that Rhianna’s the one known for Violence!?
In saying that Rhianna is the victim here and i do feel for her a lot,
But everybody has spoken out saying how shocked they are that Chris brown did that and that hes not the type of person to do that, For example didn’t he say after watching his mother get beat on he would never do that…. I think theres more to this incident.
Idk im not completely turning my back on Chris Brown until the whole story is made clear. And anyway doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance?!? A third chance tho definatly not.
