The wildly intelligent Lily Allen, the last person that I’ll be taking parenting advice from, enlightening the masses in a Revu interview. I want to tell Lily and all her followers this: you can’t approach the topic of heroin with your children in the same fashion you approach, say, broccoli.
Allen’s spokesperson was quick to confirm that Lily does not condone the use of any illegal substances. Clearly.
My parents always told me the same “we aren’t going to tell you not to take drugs, because you will do whatever you want and hide it from us. Just, please, if you take drugs, don’t mix them, and be careful”. I have never taken drugs, and I still refuse to when some of my friends offers me coke. It is a bad wording, but basically she is right – kids are going to do it and will feel more attracted to it if you forbid them to take drugs. An open perspective proved to be more effective in my friends and I. I suppose it is not the same in America, I don’t know.
Kids aren’t necessarily “going” to do them. I think good parenting involves being a good example to your kids and also not being like “NEVER DO DRUGS!” but talking to them about drugs in an educated manner and explaining how bad they are for you, plus illegal.

I think saying “If you take drugs dont mix them and be careful” is completely different than saying “Try it and see if you like it”, dont you think?
I mean my parents were very against premarital sex but they always said “If you decide to have sex make sure to be careful and protect yourself” But they definitely didnt mean “Try it and see how it feels”
One is actually encouraging them to do it while the other is saying youd rather them not to, but if they are going to they should be safe.
Mireee, at least your point is well made. But this is directed at people THAT DON”T WANT TO LISTEN> O.K. FIRST OF ALL LILY ALLEN IS SUING THE MAGAZINE THAT WROTE THIS!! There is no proof at all that it was an interview, and let’s just suppose it was, most likely she would have been cornered into the comment, when somebody asked her about her song Everyone’s at it. This in turn would have lead to the misquote, (or possible made up statement) that magazines know are going to get other peoples attention, and make them angry. Lily Allen has written on her twitter page, and has said on video tape I don’t do drugs and I won’t tell other people to do them.
You can say a lot of shit about Miss Allen but her new single is bloody amazing!

I get what she was saying though, my mother just told me not to drive while under the influence and to be careful with how much and what I take. Never got into drugs or drinking (though to be fair thats probably because both parents are drunks and fathers a druggie and I want more in my life)

This is the most idiotic thing I have ever read in my life. Kids aren’t going to do things their parents don’t want them to do if they RESPECT their parents. The problem is that too many parents have given up authority in favor of trying to be their kids “friend” which is why we have so many effed up people like Lindsay Lohan and Lily running around. If you love your parents and RESPECT them you don’t want to disappoint them. Discipline people, it works.
