Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Remember Melinda Doolittle?

melinda_doolittle

Yeah, that former backup singer from American Idol who had a killer voice but was always SO ANNOYING with the way she handled compliments? Like, “Who, me????” which was really cute for like the first two episodes and then you just wanted to smack her?

Anyway, she was a season six contestant (she placed third), and is just now coming out with her debut album, which is kind of an eternity in Idol years. The album, Coming Back to You, hit stores February 3, but you can listen to the first single here. It’s a cover of the blues standard “Dust My Broom.”

Is this whole thing going to be a blues album?

Who knows, but Melinda sure does sing ’em well.

  • Her body looks like it’s sliding off her skeleton to the left!

(The camera puts on 10 lbs. She must have a lot of cameras on her right there.)

  • At first I thought she had a big head but then I realized, she has a big FACE. Like her face is too big for her head. I’m staring at the picture and trying to make sense of it.

    • Ew, you’re right. She’s got Rumer Willis Syndrome. The face is freakishly huge but the features are too small (except her gums, egads!!!!)

  • Whoa…her push-up bra could double as a chin strap. This girl can sing, but I would really rather not ever watch a video.

  • This is a horrible picture! Why do you post the most horrible pictures of celebs?
This picture looks like she can’t take a good deep breath through that gummy smile, just horrible Beet.
Please toss this picture and the one of Janet Jackson in that scary yellow monstrosity.

  • I had never heard of her but her face freaked me out so I googled her. This is a REALLY bad picture of her. She is no beauty queen but look at other pics of her to see what I mean. She is actually pretty on the cover of her album called my funny valentine.

  • I used to hate her!! She would act so surprised whenever she did well..she was worse than David Archuleta with that shit.

Not being able to see her neck bothered me too whenever she performed, no neck = creepy.

  • Reality TV-discussion tends to bring out the snark, I agree; but that won’t stop Melinda from being a successful artist, any more than it has stopped other break-out artist from that genre (Carrie Underwood, Daughtry). Melinda’s debut CD is faithful to who she told us she was on Idol (“an old-school, Motown girl at heart”) – it’s Classic Soul: funky jams, bluesy romps, hug-your-baby slow jams, inspirational anthems and more. Retro/Classic Soul is heating up again with the likes of Seal and others releasing new music in the genre. Music buyers who appreciate grown folks music will love her CD; there’s something for everyone. Melinda’s official website has updates, newer photos, blogs and more.
BTW: the humility is not fake, just unexpected from someone this talented. We’re use to divas and their ‘tudes. Melinda knew she was a blessed background singer, but didn’t know how others would receive her as a solo artist. ‘Round about Top 10 she finally owned her new spot! ;-)
