  • Hooray Heath!!!!

still, I guess the other side of the coin is that it is very hard to compete with someone who assured their immortality a la James Dean by dying with their star on the rise.

And you can all have a go at me, I went to film school too, I think James Dean was REALLY overrated.

    Heath is not.

    • I must agree with you on some level there. I’m glad Heath won (although I wouldn’t have minded RDJ winning either, even with his messy bed-head), and I’ve only seen James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause”. He was pretty good in that, but he was only in 2 other movies. How can you call someone who has only been in 3 movies one of the best actors of all time? That doesn’t seem like sufficient evidence to me.
HEATH however…was amazing. Although I hated “A Knight’s Tale”. Arguably one of the worst movies ever made.

      • i feel that JD is overrated compared to some fantastic actors of that era who get little recognition – for example Rod Steiger is in my mind because I watched Duck You Suckers last night, and he was AMAZING.

agreed, Knight’s Tale was terrible – but 10 Things was awesome – so was Two Hands and he was good in The Patriot too.

  • how high was colin farrell when he accepted his award? and mickey rourke? seriously? the look on angelina’s face was hilarious when kate winslet won. and i loved how kate winslet said “what’s the other one’s name?” i love her.

  • weekend writer, next time put the movie next to the winning actor. (in a seinfeld voice) “who aaare theeese people? i mean sally hawkins? what is this, a jane austen novel”?

  • Was extremely disappointed Blair Underwood did not win for In Treatment. His performance brought me to tears, it was incredible.

Not a fan of 30 Rock.

    Happy for Mickey Rourke!

  • Okay please explain Slumdog Millionaire to me. All it looks like is a movie about a poor kid who goes on “Who Wants To Be A Millionare”? Come on, at best that sounds like a TV movie.

Are people being razzled-dazzled into believing it is a better movie just because it is a foreign film?

    • It’s also about two brothers who loose their mother during a genocide- and how these two boys grow into their own and the obstacles they meet along the way. Much much more than a poor kid on a game show. Maybe you should just go see it before giving a review.

    • It isn’t that foreign. I mean, it’s Danny Boyle, so it’s foreign the way 28 Days Later and Trainspotting are foreign. That said, it’s nice to see a great director finally win at life.

    • It involves a bit more than just some po’ kid going on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and winning it big. Although, that is the basic premise, the story is more about the consequences of the main character’s victory and how he explains it to the cops that he didn’t cheat in order to win. It is a somewhat wild and fable-like story that he tells them, but it’s also very well presented and filmed. I can almost guarantee you that this movie will keep your attention right up until the end (unless if maybe your favorite movie of all time is “Rush Hour 3”). This film’s perhaps not for everybody’s taste, but it’s definitely a breath of fresh air from a lot of the crap that is coming out of Hollywood. If there’s one thing I learned from this film, though, it’s that I won’t be vacationing in India anytime soon…ugh!

  • I am sick of 30 Rock winning every award every time. In fact, I am sick of shows that no one watches winning every award every time. Did the critics ever think that maybe there’s a reason if no one’s watching a show? TV shows are supposed to be entertainment. If they aren’t being watched, it’s generally because they aren’t that entertaining. That means automatic FAIL to me. Save the “art” for film. TV is supposed to be fun to watch, not work. 30 Rock gives me a headache. Good Lord.

Also, so glad that Angelina lost, again. She’s a man-stealing ho.(anyone remember who Billy Bob was engaged to when he hooked up with her? Oh yeah, that’s right, Laura Dern, who DID win last nite. AWESOME. No matter how many kids you buy Ange, you’re still a skank, and karma is gonna continue kicking your ass. You are a 2-note player, NOT a great actress. People know this now. You are never going to get to redeem yourself from that terrible shit show you called the oscars the year you actually won (only because you still had people fooled). Oh and BTW, could your clothes BE more boring? I’m like, zzzzzzz….). And Brad Pitt looks like a total douchnozzle with that facial hair–“most beautiful couple” my ass!

    • So by that logic, Two and a Half Men should win every award? 30 Rock is an awesome show. I would just assume that some people don’t watch it because they are too stupid to understand it.

      • You can disagree with my opinion about the show, but insinuating that I am just too stupid to understand it goes beyond the pale, and says a lot more about you than it does me.

And you know what they say about assuming!

      • I said some people. I didn’t say you. But you did forget to close a bracket in your first post.

    • Actually, when you insinuate a show is “work” to watch, and that it gives you a headache, you are implicating yourself as stupid.
Not everyone wants to watch shows that have to dumb down the comedy. Some of us enjoy being challenged as part of our entertainment. And for us, there are shows like 30 Rock.

      • It’s “work” because I find everyone on that show annoying. It has nothing to do with my intelligence, it’s just a matter of personal taste.

I didn’t say a thing one way or the other about any other shows I like or dislike. You’re jumping to a lot of conclusions.

  • i was so happy for kate. i think historically the globe winners take the oscars home also, but not totally sure. having seen none of the films yet, i wanted kate to win and was surprised. i hope she tones the speech down next time, though.

    happy to see heath win!

  • 30 Rock is a decent show… but it’s not great. Definitely didn’t deserve all those wins. I mean, it’s funny enough, but it just doesn’t grab me the way some shows do, like Scrubs, The Office, and Life.

If you ask me, they’re probably just fawning over it ’cause the show’s so painfully liberal biased.

  • Was it weird to anyone else that Kate expressed her 13yrs of love for Leo? I’m sure they’re close and that seems normal but wasn’t it a little excessive? In the kind of way where I felt as if I had just stumbled across some ilicit affair. AWKWARD!

And….Someone tell Tina Fey to NEVER let Tracey Morgan speak again. What a tool.

    • Yeah Nora, I thought the same thing about Kate, and so did my fiance. We’re watching her, and he’s like, “um…what about her *husband*?” Yeah. What *about* her husband? Whoa. Not to say that I think they’re having an affair, but man. I saw Leo on one of the entertainment shows last week and he was pretty flip when asked about taking her as “his date” and what her husband would think about that. Sam Mendes must be a very secure person!

      • My mom and noticed the EXACT same thing. Like, she was all REALLY touchy with Leo and huggy and kissy and handy-holdy but with her husband? Not so much…it definitely seemed like something was going on. Prolly not, but you never know…

    • I noticed this, too. My friends and I were actually cringing when we saw how emotional she got over the mention of Leo’s name. And she gushed about him and their relationship for way longer than was warranted, especially considering her husband got like a 3 second mention. Leo was also acting a little weird. He looked way happier for her than her husband did and the way they cut to him blowing her kisses…the whole thing was just awkward.

  • did anyone doubt that kate winslet would win over anne hathaway and angie jolie? she can act rings around those two.

  • My thoughts on the last ten minutes I watched because I forgot that it was even on (whoops) :

So glad Kate won… and watching Anne’s face as they announced the nominees was annoying. She totally thought it was in the bag. HA! Angelina Jolie’s face was also annoying. She’s just pretty annoying in general lately.

Happy for Mickey Rourke, although I do believe this will heighten his level of douchebagery… He really had a spectacular performance. He thanked his dogs past and present! That was pretty cute. The sequined scarf? Not so cute. The wearing of sunglasses indoors? Also dumb. But in all honesty he is a good actor and he has finally resurrected his once defunct career.

    • omg it was priceless. Absolutely priceless.
I still don’t understand why people think that Angelina is a good actress. She seems to be playing the same roles the same way over and over again…like Harrison Ford, except creepier.

  • I’ve never seen “30 Rock” — I’m still mad at NBC for cancelling “Arrested Developement” three years ago. Not a big Baldwin fan, but I’d be interested in seeing an episode or two.
    Still…
Interesting night. Not as interesting as the Oscars will *hopefully* be, but still. Interesting. Every year I tell myself that I’m going to see movies that will probably be nominated for awards, but that didn’t happen. I didn’t even see any of the comedies or musicals! What’s wrong with me?!

  • eugh..30 Rock.
I saw the premiere episode and haven’t seen another one since.
I wonder how Fey would be if McCain/Palin had won..would Palin make more appearances on SNL?

I just saw Curious Case.. last week and thought it was just wow.IMO Brad Pitt should get awards for his performance in that movie. No interest in seeing Slumdog.
Thought Kate’s speech was funny, however I think she forgot about her husband.
I don’t think Heath’s performance warrants an award..He did ok as The Joker..
It’s like Dancing with the Stars..what’s her name passed out or whatever and she went on to the next round.
