Bad news for everyone who made it onto the Britney Spears dance team this season: they’re drug-testing.
A source tells E! News that, in an effort to keep the on-track pop star free from negative influences, her camp is requiring that all of her backup dancers submit to drug tests.
“They all had to be drug tested and, if they didn’t pass, they were fired,” the insider says.
“I think they only do it for her because she is under strict watch. I think they just want good influences around her,” the source adds, noting that drug testing is not common practice.
Um, to say that drug testing is not common practice for dance jobs is to say that virginity pledges are not common practice at Hustler. My guess? They gave these kids this job and then said: “You will be drug tested in eight weeks. Be ready.” That way you weed out the total addicts but don’t lose the good dancers who happened to do a couple lines at a party that weekend. Still. Something tells me this was Papa Spears’ idea.
After watching Britney: For The Record, I would think the only way that girl could stay sane and calm would be drugs. I don’t envy her lifestyle at all, she can keep the money, it’s not worth it.
It makes sense, tho – this is a gal who married one of her backup dancers. She’s doing so well coming back, Papa doesn’t want her to start tooting with the crew and blow everything all to hell again.

I am a proponent of drug testing, and love this idea.
Especially if she gave them time to clean up their act in advance.
first off I would like to say that in the real world, most companies drug test before you are hired… so I happen to love this idea…. I understand that “doing lines at the party last weekend” is not uncommon practice for the entertainment business, however, it should not be tolorated what-so-ever. look at all the stars that have turned to drugs…. look at them now….. lindsay lohan, nicole richie, gary busey, kate moss, Amy winehouse… need i say more…. you should stop glamorizing such drugs as cocaine, and start warning people that they are going to look like amy winehouse if they start using! also, i’m not a fan of brittney but i support her trying to clean up her life, and being a mother…..
You know after I posted above, I remembered all the actors and comedians who think they are “off” their game if they are not on something…
Belushi, Williams, Pryor, and so many others…
I find it completely understandable that they’re doing drug testing, as long as they’re giving at least a short time to clean up, maybe not eight weeks (that sounds super-far-away to me), but a little bit of time.
It doesn’t really matter who came up with the idea, I wouldn’t even be surprised if it was Brit herself.
I’m glad they’re doing this. She really does need some good influences. =)
