  • OK, I give up. How is protesting in Seattle, Orlando, or Hartford going to change the vote of some narrow minded bigot in Fresno? Why not expend your time and effort doing something that will actually make a difference instead?

  • Weird how everyone is so peeved about California but totally ignoring the other states that passed the exact same thing??

  • Close enough, though, and certainly warranting an outcry I would think. Example: “Same-sex marriage was banned in Florida law even before Tuesday’s election, but Floridians voted to enshrine a definition of marriage in the state’s constitution, where supporters said it would be even more secure.” The only thing that makes California different is that judges overturned the legislation, so the people voted it back in, basically. The net result in many states is similar enough that protests would stop fixating on prop 8 alone. JMO.

  • Yeah, I think we should at least acknowledge the boneheaded law in Arkansas that prohibits gay couples from adopting children or taking in foster kids. Which is great news for foster kids everywhere! There’s even less of a chance they’ll find a loving family to take them in! Thanks a million, you Arkansas morons.

uhmmm from that idea, why would anyone protest anything ever? it’s not like these protests are fundamentally different from others. if you are confused, look up the definition of the word “protest”

  • Prop 8 gets a lot of focus because it overturned gay marriage being legal, while it was never legal in the other states that passed similar measures. Also, California is a large populous state, which makes its actions particularly significant to the rest of the union.

Lastly, demographic wise, the other ballot measures, while equally disturbing, were not as shocking when they passed. California, however, is known for being rather socially liberal, thus it’s a big deal when something like Prop 8 passes.

  • So if everyone is getting together everywhere why is this not a law that needs to be rid of nationally??
