Today's Evil Beet Gossip

The Chinese Women’s Gymnastics Team: Still Underage!

More evidence here and here. Take away their medals and give them to the USA!!! It’s not even about the damn medals, it’s about demonstrating very clearly that this blatant cheating at the highest level of athletics will not be tolerated. If the IOC had found steroids in their urine, they’d be stripped of their medals. Why is this form of cheating acceptable?

Anyway, I just got back from a little jog on the treadmill and felt really light-headed. Now, I can resist temptation and craving and being a little grumpy, but when I feel physically light-headed, it’s my body saying it’s time to fucking eat. So I went on a little binge. And by “binge” I mean I ate six Ritz crackers and two bowls of cereal. Starches like that are definitely not on my super-crazy diet. But let me tell you something: I never appreciated until right now just how awesome bowls of cereal are. And Ritz crackers!! This diet has given me a whole new appreciation of all the different kinds of food I normally eat. I’m really glad I wasn’t a hunter-gatherer in the olden days. I would have missed out on Ritz crackers entirely! I don’t understand how people actually survived their whole lives on meat and berries and veggies. It must have been so sad and boring.

And I’m kind of proud of myself that, after four days, I only had one binge, and it actually wasn’t that bad. Never in a million years would I have believed you if you’d told me that at some point in my life I’d consider two bowls of cereal a binge. So I’m clearly making progress in the way I think about food — using it mindfully as nourishment rather than mindlessly as a stress-reducer — which is my long-term goal. I’m back on the diet wagon again starting now!

  • Wow, six whole ritz crackers, and (gasp) 2 bowls of cereal?!!!? You should be ashamed!! LOL….c’mon now…are you serious?

  • I tried to go on a diet that cut out cereal in the morning, and I could not do it. I think I lasted three days with that.

  • you are being too vague about this. are you talking cheerios? total raisin bran? grape nuts? or is it closer to captain crunch or fruity pebbles? the cereal spectrum is so broad. . .

  • ‘Tis true. Usually she gives us all the details of her life like what chunks she finds in her body waste.

  • All countries cheat and lie in the Olympics. Get over it, the US lost.

I’m thinking I’d rather the Leo posts than the USA USA posts.

  • aaaahhhh! i don’t think i can take many more of the pity party. it’s a diet, for fuck’s sake … get over it.

  • The US don’t exactly have the most honest athletes in the world either. Suck it up and quit being such bad sports. Losers.

  • Persistent Cat:
Beet lives in the USA it’s PERFECTLY acceptable for her to post things that show information and perhaps (maybe) pride for the country.
If you don’t like it then don’t read it.

  • Listen Beet- I just moved from San Francisco back to my hometown of Boston. Before you begin to think, “Well, what’s wrong with that??”, let me tell you that I moved back in with my parents… and I am 27 years old… and no, I did not move for work as I do not have a job. Here is the problem- while the olympics take up a good part of my sad and pathetic nights, I really count on you to get me through the days. You’re slacking. Or maybe you aren’t, I’m just checking your site like 70 more time a day than I used to in SF. But either way, I think it’s time to step it up a notch, don’t you? I need more posts per day Beet… Please?

  • I’m sure if China could have figured out a way to have attractive underage girls stand in for the underage girl athletes, they would have done it.

  • Sexy trini…I’m falling out of my chair. Seriously. Nicely put. (Not sarcasm)

Everyone needs to stop saying horrible things about beet….
    I mean, seriously.
She’s not slacking. She’s posting tons of gossip, and she’s allowed to be on a diet/try to get healthier!
Why are you critisizing someone trying to improve their health? I mean, power to beet for sticking to her diet so persistantly, and not smoking. The last thing she needs is a bunch of people talking smack about her.
And I don’t think it should be completely awful if she doesn’t tell us every tiny detail of her life. Like what kind of cereal she eats. For gods sake, are you even listening to yourselves?!

  • Beet, I can relate with the whole eating thing. though im a teenager and pretty skinny, i have a huge butt for my tiny frame, thanks to my being Puerto Rican ( translation: J Lo’s Puerto Rican and whats she notorious for?) I’ve always loved the curvy shape, but binge eating didn’t help me gain a few curves, unless you count the small beer-belly-in-training I received instead. So now I’m going for a different approach, model-skinny. It wouldn’t be so difficult, but all my junk is getting in the way, and just as impossible as it is for me to gain weight, I can hardly lose it either. So I’ve been trying to skip a meal a day but I’ve been ordering out like crazy lately, and I love take out food, I cant resist!!!! Now lunch would be the easiest meal to skip but I work at the food place at my local pool where everyday a grilled hot dog with kraut and mustard with a side of cheese fires and Pepsi await. I need help!!! School starts in 3 weeks and I’ve been praying that a beautiful, smart, funny guy would magically take residence in my sucky town (and his tongue take residence in my mouth), he would have to attend my sucky school and eventually pour some hope into my sucky non existent love life!!! sorry that was sad, but if any other females have been in my position would they please shed some light on this problem???

  • @Josh, the post is still about the Chinese winning gold in the women’s team event.

@Abbi, I might be running out of posts to read.

  • okay joan this is just odd, i was going to ask beet if she scarfed down two whole bowls of special k or 2 bowls of cocoa puffs. scary.

  • sometimes i get so sick of the US dominating everything just because we’re rich and demanding brats. you know, i am sure we have done shady things too, but we just have more money to keep them underground? i was so rooting for the little chinese girls last night. i don’t give a fuck if they are under age, a lot of those athletes probably came from very poor families, but they all trained their asses off, and look where they’re at now. take a look at all the american girls, iphones, ipods, bling blings lol. i know that not all of them are spoiled like that, but i just feel SO BAD for the chinese girls who i am sure had such a tough life getting to where they are now.

all of you have got to be so mean about this scandal. i would love to see them dig out some dirt on the US athletes. fuck, some of you are so obnoxious.

  • @hillary: i come here for the celeb snark, not to read post after post of dieting details, complaints about this and that, etc. the posts are becoming more about her trivial personal problems than about the celebrities. seriously – if i want to listen to the boring details of what someone ate yesterday i will attend a weight watchers meeting. maybe beet should start a dieting/complaining blog and you can all go there and whine about your diets or whatever. i, on the other hand, am waiting for beet to get it together and bring the snark back!

  • @quirkygirlkitten: I come here for celebrity gossip & Beets take on it AND all the stuff about her life. Her dieting, Leo, her road trips, her current crush, EVERYTHING!!!! If I only wanted gossip & not anything personal I’d go to TMZ or something.
And I also was wondering what kind-a cereal she had. Not to be critical, just because I wanna know it all!

  • i think we all come here for different reasons and beet can only be herself. so, if we don’t find what we need, we can leave. but we should continue to be kind to one another while we are here.

i think that is what really makes this blog and its posters so much better than others. when beet shares her personal life others feel free to share theirs and i’ve actually been given a lot to think about in some of the posts. so, mimi i too really want to know what cereal beet scarfed. ;-)

@sexytrini: that was truly one of the funniest things i’ve read in awhile. thanks!

  • oh and when marion admitted to being a doper, she most definitely should have had her medals stripped and she should be banned from the sport – as anyone who cheats should be. prior cheating by other nations is shameful and does not justify the current cheating of some nations/ athletes.

sports should be clean from dope and any form of cheating which includes a government forging passports. if the ioc is going to strip a serbian wrestler of his bronze medal for having a temper tantrum and others for drugs, they should consistently enforce their policies to all nations. if the chinese government doesn’t have a code of ethics, than one should be imposed upon them so that all nations are playing on a level field.

oh and yes, americans are brash. we have questionable foreign policy judgment and are frequently boastful. but the olympics are an event where, damn it, everyone should be proud of their country and should cheer loudly for their athletes accomplishments. so get off our backs for standing up and shouting “GO USA!” we don’t have much else these days of which to be proud. Feel free to cheer just as loudly for your country.

  • @ ribbet: I aim to please, lol
@ Anon: I was rooting for them as well, partly because of the pressure on them and what their victory will mean for them and their families.

  • Well steroids and age differences are separate things. Steroids enhance the athletes’ abilities. These girls–underage or not–won through their own talent and hard work. The fact that they’re younger does not change the fact that the US’ gymnasts were not as good as a team.

I’m not condoning what China did because it’s still against the rules but I just think that there’s a big difference between underage athletes and ones that are taking drugs. And what I want to know is why the hell is there an age limit anyways (which btw is exactly Bela Karolyi has been arguing against).

Btw…what the fuck do you people think you’re doing (not you Beet), ragging on China about the “pretty” image thing? Let’s take a look at our own country and tell me that we don’t let the pretty people get away with EVERYTHING. We are just as superficial and shallow so I wouldn’t be pointing any fingers.

  • can i just say that some chinese just look really young for their age? It’s like how when my family sits round watching the miss universe pagent, we are amazed at how old some of the caucasian contestants look. “Like really? she’s just 17??? she looks 28!”

i’m pushing 29 this year and immigration officers in western countries think i’m 21 and do a double take on my passport.

    I’m just saying.

  • ribbet, i’m sure it was cap’n crunch or some such, because she didn’t jump on to defend herself and say it was total raisin bran or whatever! and whoever said something about the chinese girls being unattractive- duh, the cute chinese underage girls are in whorehouses, the less cute ones are working in factories, then the uglies get trained as athletes.
i think the cheating sucks too, but i have only pity for these poor girls, who have been training non-stop since they were 3 yrs old, allowed to see their families once a year, and i’m sure didn’t come up with the idea to falsify their passports. they are the victims in this. it’s not like they can be proud of medals won under false pretenses. plus i don’t think they have the right to refuse to do what the government wants, over there. not like we have that right here either, but we at least have the illusion of it.

  • hi joan,
totally agree with you about these children not having an option to do anything but what their government commands. i feel so sorry for them. i truly pity any child that does not have an option to stand up and make a decision for him/ herself. sorry if that didn’t come through.
i’ll always defend the babies. :-)

  • LOL DOES IT MATTER? Even those there is no REAL 100% PROOF. Lets just say they did cheat. Who cares? They are winning the other games fair and square, what they need to proof is they are nonstoppable.. even the games were its IMPOSSIBLE TO CHEAT they are still grabbing gold. For example, shooting, wrestling, badminton, v-ball, fencing, weight lifting, archery, Judo, and the list goes on .. they still got gold in those =P

  • Haahaa even if these girls are fourteen just prooves how shitty Americas gymnasts are.
I meen would’nt that be a good story to tell grand children about .. going to the olympics at fourteen competing in gymnastics and getting gold hmm shame America can’t say it

  • You guys know nothing about the effort the chinese gymnastist has paid! YOu KNow Nothing about the trainning system in China, There are so many people in china and They can just choose another one if the young girl do not want to practise it.The girl choose to become an gymnastist not because they has been forced by chinese government, well , unlike america, which can only found the froggy LIUkin as their represntitve, china do not have the force the gymnastists. as a gymnastists in china, you have to face a lot of completition with others so as to gain a place in the nation team.If they show unwillingness , they will be send home immediately, there are many girls would like to be a gymnastist . If you don’t show passion to gymnast, why give you the chance?
I think you guys should pity the froggy Liukin as she must be the one who has been forced so much by her nasty father(the one who show no respect to the judges and ruin the holy sportmanships and destroy the olympic spirit) YOu can see how hard he try to beg the judges for getting a gold medal for his daughter, using all the methods(scolding the judges, insulting other athlets, using his fame in the gymnastic field)
