Kirsten Dunst Is Lying

Kirsten says she checked into the Cirque Lodge in Utah for depression, not substance abuse.

“I didn’t go to Cirque Lodge for alcohol abuse or drug abuse,” she says. “I went there for depression … It was a good six months before I decided to go away. I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself. I was fortunate to have the resources to do it. My friends and family thought it was a good idea, too. But I didn’t know where to go. My doctor recommended Cirque Lodge.”

As to why she’s speaking out now?

“There’s been a lot of misrepresentation about what is going on in my life, and it’s been very painful for my friends and family,” she says. “Everyone feels like they have to defend me. They hear the rumors, and it puts them in a defensive position. Now that I’m feeling stronger, I was prepared to say something.”

While naysayers out there may groan that a young, wealthy Hollywood starlet should have nothing to be depressed about, Dunst says mental illness doesn’t know any such boundaries. “We’re all in the same boat together,” she opines. “Depression is pretty serious and should not be gossiped about.”

Now, I’m not saying Kirsten didn’t suffer from depression, but as far as I know, the Cirque Lodge is exclusively for drug and alcohol rehab. Their website says nothing about dealing with mental health issues outside the scope of substance abuse.

So, um, yeah. I call bullshit. Kirsten’s drinking and drugging again, and she just doesn’t want to hear shit from the press about a relapse when she chooses to do it in public.

  • Good to see the Cirque Lodge had a good program that she could really sink her fangs into.

  • There’s a complicated relationship between drug use and depression, you can’t simply draw lines between them. They both spin out of control and overlap, independent and interlinked at the same time.

The mistake here is that Cirque Lodge, or for that matter the public, is a little too indiscreet. Such publicity of treatment in a negative, mocking light stigmatizes the seeking of mental health professionals, which should be specifically promoted as a cure for substance abuse, in the respect that it is a health issue first and foremost .

Yes, this is a 10,000 dollar a day facility, or something like that, but the problem could be affecting someone sitting next to you at your job, who could very well turn their life around if they could just push stop – and recalibrate with the help of mental health services. If the outward sign is that they’re drinking too much, the inner problems are surely greater than you imagine.

Mocking celebrities is fun, I don’t deny myself that pleasure. However, I think in this case there is a negative effect on the rest of society and on our interpretation of substance abuse and mental health.

  • That is the stupidest thing I have ever read. Rehab for depression. Phhhhht. F@ck you snaggle tooth.

  • Cirque Lodge also treats co-occurring disorders such as eating disorders or mood disorders…not everyone who goes in carries an issue with drugs/alcohol abuse.

  • If she thinks her depression will go away while she continues to drink and use, she is sadly mistaken. Depression is the #1 symptom of untreated alcoholism and drug addiction. For years I thought I was just depressed and saw therapists and psychiatrists about it and never got any relief, while during that time I continued to drink and use drugs. Finally when I accepted the fact that I was an alcoholic and an addict, and began treatment for that disease, my depression was treated as well. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

  • @stephanie

‘co-occurring’ That is, occurring in combination with addiction. From their website:

For those who have been diagnosed with a mood disorder, it may be difficult to find proper treatment and support groups when you have an addiction. Consider Cirque Lodge, our addiction treatment staff specializes in treating individuals with pre-existing mood conditions. Effective addiction treatment comes from effective mood treatment.
