Vick Is In; Baskett Gets The Boot

I don’t know why these sports stories can’t break when Kelly is working, but this one is pretty straightforward — no sports knowledge needed.

Michael Vick, the quarterback who was recently released from prison for illegal dogfighting, has been put on the roster for the Philadelphia Eagles.  He was on their exempt list, but now is allowed to practice with and play for the team.  Hey, he did apologize!  Of course, bringing Vick in meant someone had to go.  Who got the boot?  Kendra Wilkinson’s husband, Hank Baskett!

What will Hank and Kendra do with a baby on the way?  Will Hank get picked up by another team?  How will Kendra handle this stress in the final months of her pregnancy?  Did she do that stupid laugh when she heard the news?  We gotta pray that Kendra stays on the air so we can get all these questions (and more!) answered.

    • Well, they could have when she was a former Bunny and he was an NFL player. I think it’s a harder sell when it’s now marginal TV Reality Star and Unemployed Athlete.

  • Not like they are strapped for cash or anything, if they were smart they probably would be saving money to care for a baby in the first place..

  • Something tells me that the portion of the $1.5 million dollars that Baskett gets to keep from his off-season contract signing, along with the millions that both he and Kendra have made, and will continue to make, will help put food on the table for them and their spawn.

Baskett was productive, though not particularly special. The Eagles had something like 7 receivers signed (included 2 that they recently drafted to possibly supplant him), so someone/some people had to go. He’ll get picked up by another team, maybe closer to his & Kendra’s Cali Digs than Philly. The Eagles tried to trade him (unsuccessfully) to make room for QB Jeff Garcia’s signing days ago, so the writing was on the wall for Baskett’s career in Philly.

  • The Eagles just signed Jeff Garcia so that’s more so the reason why Baskett got cut. Unless your point is that someone like Michael gets to stay on the team and Hank Baskett doesn’t.

    • Actually, they put someone on the IR to make room for Garcia, Wendy was correct. Basket was released for Vick.

  • I know nothing about football, but I still don’t like it. Something about giving money to an animal abuser over someone like Hank, who seems like a decent guy on Kendra’s show, just isn’t right, even if he will improve the Eagles’ record.

  • I am a huge Eagles fan, and I also watched Kendra. I thought Baskett was a great guy, and he comes from a great family. But he did underperform for the Eagles. They need him because of his height, but he wasn’t making the big plays. Personally, I am thrilled to see Jeff Garcia back :)

  • I live in south Philly. The stadiums are in my view when I walk home. Hank Baskett makes absolutely no news here. Ever ever ever. He married a naked model. Yay.

And Michael Vick is a piece of sh*t. I’m glad he’s making good by giving speeches that have been written for him, and I hope that at least one dog doesn’t die because some idiot actually listened to him, but I doubt it.

I’ll go take a PMS pill now.

    • If the Eagles really want to make money, they should hold a full day event at their stadium where Vick is tied down and pitbulls are sicced on him. I know I’d get front row tickets.

  • The irony is that Hank Baskett, the husband of a Playboy playmate, is being cut to make room for Jeff Garcia, the husband of a Playboy playmate. As some others have pointed out, Vick and Baskett have been a part of the roster for some time now. It’s the recent addition of Jeff Garcia due to the injury of Donovan McNabb that is costing Baskett his spot.

    • No, O-lineman Shawn Andrews was put on IR to make room for Jeff Garcia http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4474988
Vick was on the exempt list meaning he did not count in the 53 man-rooster and did not practice with the team during season (could in pre-season). Now the team had to activate Vick (meaning he would now count) and they had to drop one… hence Basket who only had a few good catches last year and nothing since

      • Technically, Baskett got cut to make room for Vick, but had McNabb not gotten hurt then Baskett would still be on the team. Had they not signed Garcia, then Michael Vick would have taken Shawn Andrews spot.

They have plenty of WRs so I think it was an easy decision for them to make.

  • I have to make a comment on this dialogue. For me personally, it really is not about who was cut or who was added. It is about a less than professional person (VICK) being allowed to play football at all. Its like he got his hands slapped, told to apologize and do a few prewritten lectures and all is forgiven. WOW that says alot for the ethics of a the NBA. There are far better players out there that the Eagles could have put on their team. But what can you say, got watch dogs kill each other, take bets, make money, have a high power attorney get you off, and there you go, it is like nothing happened, oh I know it is just a bunch of stupid dogs who cares, NOT. He is a huge asshole that no matter how well he plays he is not a true NBA player.
