Megan Fox Joins ‘New Girl’ During Zooey Deschanel’s Maternity Leave

Zooey Deschanel just recently got married and had a baby girl, so she’s still on maternity leave from New Girl. What on earth will they do while she’s gone? Bring in Megan Fox, of course! Fox is joining the comedy series for a starring role in a multi-episode arc while Zooey’s doing the whole motherhood thing, which should help get the declining ratings back up.

From Entertainment Weekly:

Here’s the plan: Several episodes into the season, Deschanel’s Jess will find herself on sequestered during jury duty (and will not appear in the show). During that period, Fox’s character will rent out Jess’ room. Fox plays “Reagan,” described as a “gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft.”

“It’s insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it,” said executive producer Liz Meriwether. “I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show.  We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.”

Fox will first appear in the sixth episode of next season, which is scheduled to premiere in January.

Well, I guess that’s that. New Girl really lost me last season, and I think I watched the season finale but I sure as hell can’t remember what happened in it. Where is Jess doing jury duty, exactly, that she needs to rent out her room for months on end? It seems a little far-fetched, but whatever.

I think Fox is cheap casting and a ploy to drum up some enthusiasm for the show again, and whether or not it will work remains to be seen. Either way, it’s happening.

Are you into it?

  • never been a big fox fan but I don’t see her in too many things lately and she was okay in “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People”
