Tom Hanks’ Extremely White Son Chet Defends His Right To Say “Nigga”

One would likely assume that the son of Tom Hanks, an esteemed actor with a seemingly decent amount of class, would be somewhat similar. Such is not the case with Chet Hanks, a grown Caucasian man who finds it perfectly acceptable to refer to his “niggaz” in a loving way… because he’s down with the rap culture, of course.

It all kicked off when Chet posted an Instagram photo with the following caption:

2 types of people in this world: those who know exactly what it is they want and are doing everything they can to get it; and those who just wander aimlessly through life because they are scared to death of failure. I’ve lost a lot of so called friends cuz they turned out to be the second kind. Fuck yall hating ass niggaz I’ll never stop chasing my dream ? #OneLifeOneGodOneLove

When people rightfully pointed out that a white guy – regardless of how much he loves rap music – has no place saying that word, Chet didn’t apologize. Instead, he posted a lengthy defense of why it’s his GOD-GIVEN RIGHT to say the word “nigga”, you’re just too dumb to realize it.

If I say the word nigga I say it amongst people I love and who love me. If I say "fuck yall hatin ass niggaz" it's because that's really how I felt at the time. And I don't accept society getting to decide what ANYBODY can or can't say. That's something we call FREE SPEECH. Now I understand the older generation who grew up in the Jim Crowe era might have strong feelings against this. And that's understandable… But what I'm saying is this is 2015… And even tho we are still far from where we need to be and black people are still being literally KILLED by a RACIST and fucked up system… We have also reached a point where the word can no longer have a negative connotation if we so choose. And who is to say only black people can use it? The way I see it, it's a word that unifies the culture of HIP-HOP across ALL RACES, which is actually kind of a beautiful thing. It's a word that can be used out of camaraderie and love, not just exclusively for black people. What's the point in putting all these built up "rules" about it. It's time to let go. You can hate me or love me for it, but can't nobody tell me what I can or can't say. It's got nothing to do with trying to be a thug. It's about the culture of the music. And that's all I have to say about that (no pun intended) lol. It's all love. Some people will get it, some people won't. Either way, Ima keep living my life however the fuck I want. ALL LOVE.

Sometimes people are so ignorant and ridiculous that it literally renders me speechless. That’s what’s happened here. What the hell?

  • Unfortunately many people think because its spelled that way its ok, like saying my brother. And thats what they learned from growing up in a culture that glorifies thugs and criminals (MTV , radio and movies). And yeah whoever uses the word is an idiot.

    • Is it ok for blacks to use the word? It shouldn’t be, as the meaning if it does not change regardless of who is saying it. It’s still insulting. Blacks using it as a term of endearment are only showing exactly that, that it’s a term of endearment anyone can use. If they feel it’s so negative and insulting, you’d think they’d cease using it themselves. Not the smartest of people, are they?

  • It must be rather easy to fearlessly chase any dream you have when you’ve got hundreds of millions of dollars to catch you when you fail.

  • How sad that Tom Hanks was so busy acting and being the nice guy that it seems he didn’t have time to teach his son some common sense about life.

  • Yeah, I know a NUMBER of men (not black) that say it as a term of endearment. The saturation of the word in society (mostly from rappers) has really changed the meaning and desensitized people to it. Kind of like the “F” word…that is no longer the Queen Mother of Dirty words as it’s now used MULTIPLE times in a sentence on a regular basis. Hell, my husband calls our cat “My Nig”…and the cat will come if he yells it. Sorry, but thug society brought that on themselves.
