Lena Dunham is “disgusted” at being accused of molesting her sister

Lena Dunham is the fucking worst. She’s everything that’s wrong with entitled white rich girls and the way society rewards them for being marginally literate (NOT “talented”) and I can’t stand her. Uh, but that’s just me… YMMV, of course. However, people are falling all over themselves over her new book, Not That Kind of Girl… until they actually read it and realize how fucked up this girl actually is.

Here’s an excerpt that found her coming under considerable heat:

“One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked.”

“My mother came running. ‘Mama, Mama! Grace has something in there!’ ”

“My mother didn’t bother asking why I had opened Grace’s vagina. This was within the spectrum of things I did. She just on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been a success.”

Uh… I don’t… I’m kinda speechless, actually. I get that little kids don’t really know what genitals are in the sexual sense and that we all do weird shit when we’re little, but a) Lena Dunham was WELL of age to know better – whether having been taught by school or her own parents and b) while kids do weird shit, she writes about looking at her sister’s vagina with some sort of weird pride, like she knows she’s going to get attention for it. Some stories aren’t meant to be shared, girl. It does not make you quirky or funny or awesome, it makes you fucking awful.

Also, not in the above excerpt but worth taking into account is the fact that she joked that she was like a sexual predator and tried all the tricks she thought a predator might. Rightfully, people thought that was pretty awful and gross and somewhat akin to sexual abuse, so Lena naturally turned it right around with her privilege and said YOU’RE the weirdo for thinking she’s weird!

Boo hoo, poor Lena Dunham. Also, I love that this is somehow a political issue conjured up by the “right wing” – girl, WHAT? Get some fucking common sense. Second of all, her sister is laughing? I’m not sure if I believe that, and if she is, it’s maybe laughing at you knowing that people hate you even more than they already did. BOO, GO AWAY.

  • I do not understand said story. Did she do this to her sister because she thought something was amiss? Or was it just dumb luck that her sister had something in there? This seems contrived to me–two stories pushed into one to make a “better” story. Also, is Ms. Dunham not the person who recently came out as raped? I would think that someone (if I am correct and it was Ms. Dunham) would have been sexually assaulted would not even joke about it. But even if I am wrong–such a strong feminist (sarcasm here) would not joke about a woman, a CHILD, being a victim of sexual assault. (And, I firmly believe anyone who does this “carefully spread open her vagina” for their own pleasure to a child is sexually assaulting that child. Yes, I get it Ms. Dunham, you were curious, but as Ms. Jennifer said–you should have known better than to do it. You should certainly know better by now than to allow your childhood “funny” story about your young sister to became masturbatory material for those out there who believe doing things like this to young girls is proper to “teach them.”) Please, check out Love146.org for some facts on what you can do to stop sexual assault.

  • Lena Dunham is the Queen of Self-Righteous Indignation. She seems to live for the moments (that she creates herself) where she can get mad and self-righteous and go off on a rage-y pity-party rant. This is just more of the same, and she will continue to up the ante with even more controversial stories and actions to keep the attention coming and her sense of self-importance boosted.

Sorry Lena, but you’re not edgy, or feminist, or even interesting. Enjoy what remains of your 15 minutes and then please just shut up and go away.

    • There was a pretty good article positing that Lena is doing a long troll on us all, I’ll have to see if I can find it. The Red Carpet would have to totally agree

  • she needed something for people to talk about in her book to sell more copies and there it is. Fake outrage for an overblown incident plus it brings attention to this total attention whore who I find to be disgusting and absolutely pathetic.

  • Well Lena’s father has been painted vagina’s since the 70’s. Not a big surprise. It would be very normal in their household. Google “Carroll Dunham” and it will all become clear.

  • I will agree that it’s a strange story from Lena, and it seems especially odd as an excerpt given without any context for why she might have included it in her book. However, I’m also always a bit sad to see all of the women hating Lena for being “talentless,” “privileged,” “enititled” etc. I have watched several interviews with her, and I think she seems smart, thoughtful, and entirely aware of the privileges given to so-called rich white girls. Haven’t any of you seen Girls? The entire show is basically an expose of the shit that they can get away with. I don’t think she’s just being self-indulgent by writing about what she writes about–she’s using her show as a platform to show people what is fucked up about a specific population of her generation. Something I like about Girls is that none of the characters are really favoured–often they act like bratty, immature, insane people, but Lena has laid it all out so that an audience can judge accordingly. She is showing us how messy and imperfect they are, and yes, how unappreciative they can be of their own privilege. Maybe it’s not the most culturally or racially diverse, but what American show is? She is writing what she knows, and I think she is fully aware that the world she comes from deserves judgement.

    • I can’t comment on the show, having never seen it. My comment was strictly aimed at her public behavior and how she constantly seems to be spoiling for a fight. She says, wears, and does things deliberately to provoke, but then screams bloody murder when people react in any way other than with 100% approval.

Perhaps she is indeed a smart woman, with a lot of talent, but her actions & reactions overshadow that. I’m all for letting your freak flag fly high and proud, but that comes with accepting that there will be criticism.

      • she honestly reminds me a lot of my own sister, who, incidentally, is a huge fan.
I watched her film “Tiny Furniture” once and it was the worst load of woe-is-me bullshit I have experienced in a while.

  • I’m honestly quite sure that I don’t know what to think of this story, but agree with the point above. The one time she decides to have a gander at her sister’s wee privates is the one time her sister has turned it into a gravel quarry? Seems unlikely and probably told only for effect

  • The story doesn’t make sense. A one year old would be wearing diapers. She would have had to remove the diaper. A one year old stuffing 5 pebbles in her vagina? I don’t buy that. The odds that it happened the way it’s depicted are slim.
