Is Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’ Video Blasphemous?

katy perry

As I predicted, some people think that Katy Perry‘s new Egyptian-themed video for ‘Dark Horse’ is a whole crock of blasphemous horse shit, and they’re not happy about it. Some religious groups have called for the video to be pulled from YouTube because of it and they’ve even started a petition for… whatever reason people start petitions.

Shazad Iqbal from Bradford in the UK started the petition, which received over 65,000 signatures in total – though I imagine some people just hate Katy Perry, not her message in the ‘Dark Horse’ video. They consider that a ‘victory’, apparently, but the video lives on.

Here’s the description:

The video is considered as highly controversial to its viewers as a result of its portrayal of blasphemy.

At 01:15 into the video Dark Horse; a man is shown being burned, whilst wearing a pendant (also burned) forming the word ‘Allah’, which is the arabic word for God.

Such goes to show, that blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video, since Katy Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believer and the word God in flames.

This is the reason for lodging the petition so that people from different walks of life, different religions and from different parts of the world, agree that the video promotes blasphemy, using the name of God in an irrelevant and distasteful manner would be considered inappropriate by any religion

We hope that the video itself depicting such images is removed. Such acts are not condoned nor tolerated, we hope YouTube will remove the video

Alright, let’s put aside the serious offenses of grammar, punctuation, etc. in this and concentrate on one thing: blasphemy is only blasphemy if you believe in it. I know Katy obviously has a Christian faith and that’s fair enough, but for someone like myself, if I say “Jesus Christ!” when someone scares me, I’m not blaspheming because it’s just a name. It holds no significance for me personally.

The video is kinda weird and sorta shitty on its own, but not because the name of God is engulfed in flames. Also, random dude from Bradford, you don’t get to decide how someone expresses their artistry and religious feelings, so… People seriously have too much time on their hands.

In case you forgot what the vid was like, here ya go:

  • LOL the man wearing the chain was actually offensive but ofcourse for someone like you that makes her money off of band wagoning and discussing hollywood , this would seem “artsy” and “not so offensive”. Seriously its because of websites like these that people lose brain cells and maybe even self respect. poor you.

    • You may want to check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills before you start attacking others, because what you wrote made me lose brain cells, not the content of the article.

      • Keep that right to her own religious beliefs. She can whore around all she wants about Christianity since she is the biggest sell out and had to whore around to be noticed. She went from Christian music to music about eating pussy just so she can make money. And no, unless u follow a certain faith u have no fucking right to say anything about it.

  • I actually don’t think it’s blasphemous or offensive. It’s just stupid and nonsensical (and not in the normal Katy Perry way that can be enjoyable). She has the right to say what she wants and express herself as she wants.

  • She’s just the rebellious little strayed Christian girl attention whore and they bought right into it. Stupidity on both sides. Apparently Roar is about witchcraft and devil worship. I’m so tired of Katy trying to portray with all those different themes. Music is too much image and no substance nowadays

  • Well, since this is America and we have the right to say almost anything we want about anything then there is no problem. She has the right to say what she wants about any religion and to show whatever images she wants about any religion. If you don’t like it then don’t watch it. All they are doing is supporting it even more by bringing it to peoples attention.
I personally don’t care about what she says or does when it comes to religion because it’s all unproven myths anyway.

  • It’s absolutely offensive. Please make all the fun you or any of these other whores and sellouts want by peeling or pooping or burning crucifix or star of david but leave Islam out of it. And yes since this is Ameria not only am I going to watch it but I’m going to make sure shit like this doesn’t happen. Piss off evilbeet.

    • not exactly a win. just a spoil child crying for milk and celebrating the fact that it got some regardless of the fact the no one cares about it.

  • They can censor this in the Arab world if they want but in the west no one cares. They can play the original morning to evening for all i care. If Abdul and his 65,000 relatives in the UK is pissed then he can go to the middle east where they censor everything except for religious propaganda.
