Some People Don’t Like Miley’s New Tattoo

You know, the one I told you about this past weekend of the equality sign? The one Miley got because she believes that “all love is equal”? Yeah, it turns out that a good few people are mad about it.

From HRC:

Miley Cyrus’s new equal sign tattoo sparked discussions on Twitter over the weekend after the 18-year-old tweeted a photo of the ink along with a message: “All Love is Equal,” reported Us Magazine on Sunday.

Many of her followers responded in praise for her perceived support for LGBT rights. However, others challenged the self-proclaimed Christian’s stance, asking where in the Bible “God says homosexuality” is okay. Cyrus responded, “Where does it say in the Bible to judge others?”

According to Us Magazine, the negative reactions to her support for LGBT rights led her to quit Twitter in 2009.

“I said on there that I believed in gay marriage because everyone should have the right to love each other,” she toldParade magazine in an interview. “I got such hate mail about being a bad person.”

While body art isn’t for everyone, there are still plenty of ways to show your support for LGBT equality.

Ugh. I’ve had this debate too many times, the whole “God says gay people are evil so it’s ok to hate them and hurt them and be horrible to them” vs. “Hey, how about believing what you want without being cruel to people?” argument. I wish I could give Miley a strong high five for all this, I really do. And it’s been a long time since I’ve thought that.

    • HOLY SHIT. stop the fucking presses. a SPELLING ERROR?!? on the INTERWEBS???? surely this is not possible???? call up the president-and event of this magnitude is surely the first of it’s kind!!! may god save us all!!!

      • I’m not an English major, motherfuckers, and so I can spell things whatevur way I want, and unless you really are that dumb, you should be able to figure out what I mean. correcting spelling on the Internet became uncool about the same time Miley up there got her first STD.

      • Well, you judged her tattoo on the “interwebz”. So I think people should be equally able to judge you based on what you write. And when you call something “retarted” and spell it wrong, aren’t you being kind of a hypocrite?

  • Millions of American Christians support gay rights and, specifically, gay marriage. I do not understand why Miley would be singled out over this issue.

Would I have gotten that tattoo? Well, no. If I were to get a tattoo, it would probably be a tramp-stamp of the Dark Mark. But supporting the equal treatment of a large group of Americans who are currently treated like second-class citizens is ALMOST as cool as Harry Potter, so I can respect Miley’s choice.
