Football Player David Tyree Says That Gay Marriage Will Lead to “Anarchy”

Yeah. Bad, bad anarchy. The worst, apparently.

Tyree, who’s a former Giants player, spoke out in defense of the National Organization for Marriage, which is a fundamentalist group in support of heterosexual marriage only (or as Carrie Prejean would have you think, “opposite marriage“). Tyree states:

“It’s not about establishing a theocracy, it’s about what’s right. How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all of a sudden because an influential minority has a push or an agenda and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country, not founded by men, and it’s something that’s holy and sacred. I think there’s nothing more honorable than fighting for, especially if we really care about our future generations.”

I honestly appreciate the dedication to his higher being, but he apparently doesn’t realize that the two are apples and oranges to a lot of people.

Thoughts?

  • Blessed be those who follow God and his rightousness!

Marriage between one man and one woman is clesr!
Genesis 2:23-24: “The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called “woman,” for she was taken out of man.’ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” God created man and then made woman to complement him. Marriage is God’s “fix” for the fact that “it is not good for the man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18).

The word “helper” used to describe Eve in Genesis 2:20 means “to surround, to protect or aid, help.” Eve was created to be alongside Adam as his “other half,” to be his aid and his helper. A man and woman, when married, become “one flesh.” This oneness is manifested most fully in the physical union of sexual intimacy. The New Testament adds a warning regarding this oneness. “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Matthew 19:6).

  • Marriage between one man and one woman IS clesr, Gloria! Right on! You stand up for clesr ALL DAY, girlfren!

  • WOW BonkityBonk: You are Bonkity Bonkers. You, too, Gloria.

How a book that was written over 2000 years ago by the fallible hand of man is still used to justify discrimination against others astounds me. I sure hope anyone who follows this line of reasoning also refuses to eat shellfish, trim their temples, or wear mixed-textile clothing, since the Bible also condemns THOSE behaviors.

  • Biblical marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN. And another woman. In fact, as many women as the man wants, as long as he can afford to pay off the brides’ fathers and/or brothers. Oh, and also between a man and his brother’s widow. And between a man and his wife and his wife’s slaves. Marriage today, generally done in the name of love rather than as a business transaction between the groom and the bride’s father, and in which the woman is a willing participant and not the husband’s property, IS NOT BIBLICAL MARRIAGE!!!!! All this BS about trying to “protect” “traditional” marriage is nonsense, and as a Christian I’m sick of it.

  • Too true, too true. If it’s been going on for thousands of years, that means it must be right, right? Like slavery, torture, poverty and war. All wonderful institutions.

  • Why should we care what the bible says? It was written thousands of years ago for a totally different culture and era. The bible says all kinds of ridiculous and horrible things, particularly in the OT. It was written by primitive people who had childish and often violent beliefs. This is not a theocracy. If one chooses to follow the bible, that’s their right. It is not their right to impose that belief upon others.

  • Hey people, let us not be so concerned about to people who are in love and wanting to marry and more about I don’t know…the starving children, America’s struggling education system…and maybe the AIDS epedimic in Afirca. Just saying….
I can assure you, gay people are just as committed and in love as straight people, and are the just the same as them. They are humans too, with rights. So let’s stop treating them like they are some different race to be feared. They people too. And they aren’t breaking anyone’s family apart.
And lastly remember….the comments you make don’t only hurt gay people, but also the people who love them….such as their mother, father, sister, brother and so on.

  • I can respect people who hold beliefs such as this . . . up to a point. And I do absolutely agree that, within the Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), religious marriage is, from the perspective of central religious texts, strictly heterosexual.

I have no idea why that should impact a secular marriage certificate. I am not a member of those religions, and I -am- gay. I can have a religious marriage ceremony within my faith, but I cannot have it legally recognized in my state . . . yet.

I would NEVER try to force a given church or pastor to perform a religious ceremony that goes against its doctrines or beliefs. But a secular marriage certificate is about human, civil rights.

  • I am impressed that he stood up for what he believes in. I believe he is right, all you have to do is read history. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Same sex couples deserve rights like married couples, but I do not call that a marriage, they do not procreate. It really should have it’s own name.

  • Romans 1
    Greeting
1From Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle and appointed to spread the Good News of God. 2(God had already promised this Good News through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures. 3This Good News is about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.[a] In his human nature he was a descendant of David. 4In his spiritual, holy nature he was declared the Son of God. This was shown in a powerful way when he came back to life. 5Through him we have received God’s kindness[b] and the privilege of being apostles who bring people from every nation to the obedience that is associated with faith. This is for the honor of his name. 6You are among those who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.)

7To everyone in Rome whom God loves and has called to be his holy people.

Good will[c] and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours!
Paul’s Prayer and Desire to Visit Rome
8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for every one of you because the news of your faith is spreading throughout the whole world. 9I serve God by spreading the Good News about his Son. God is my witness that I always mention you 10every time I pray. I ask that somehow God will now at last make it possible for me to visit you. 11I long to see you to share a spiritual blessing with you so that you will be strengthened. 12What I mean is that we may be encouraged by each other’s faith.

13I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that I often planned to visit you. However, until now I have been kept from doing so. What I want is to enjoy some of the results of working among you as I have also enjoyed the results of working among the rest of the nations. 14I have an obligation to those who are civilized and those who aren’t, to those who are wise and those who aren’t. 15That’s why I’m eager to tell you who live in Rome the Good News also.

16I’m not ashamed of the Good News. It is God’s power to save everyone who believes, Jews first and Greeks as well. 17God’s approval is revealed in this Good News. This approval begins and ends with faith as Scripture says, “The person who has God’s approval will live because of faith.”
    God’s Anger Against Sinful Humanity
18God’s anger is revealed from heaven against every ungodly and immoral thing people do as they try to suppress the truth by their immoral living. 19What can be known about God is clear to them because he has made it clear to them. 20From the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly observed in what he made. As a result, people have no excuse. 21They knew God but did not praise and thank him for being God. Instead, their thoughts were total nonsense, and their misguided minds were plunged into darkness. 22While claiming to be wise, they became fools. 23They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for statues that looked like mortal humans, birds, animals, and snakes.

24For this reason God allowed their lusts to control them. As a result, they dishonor their bodies by sexual perversion with each other. 25These people have exchanged God’s truth for a lie. So they have become ungodly and serve what is created rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen!

26For this reason God allowed their shameful passions to control them. Their women have exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27Likewise, their men have given up natural sexual relations with women and burn with lust for each other. Men commit indecent acts with men, so they experience among themselves the punishment they deserve for their perversion.

28And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things. 29Their lives are filled with of all kinds of sexual sins, wickedness, and greed. They are mean. They are filled with envy, murder, quarreling, deceit, and viciousness. They are gossips, 30slanderers, haters of God, haughty, arrogant, and boastful. They think up new ways to be cruel. They don’t obey their parents, 31don’t have any sense, don’t keep promises, and don’t show love to their own families or mercy to others. 32Although they know God’s judgment that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do these things but also approve of others who do them.
