Nicole Kidman Loses Role to Selena Gomez

This has to be a tough blow to Nicole Kidman’s ego, especially after whatever it is she’s just done to her face. Selena Gomez has just been cast in the lead role of the film adaptation of Headhunters by Jules Bass. The role was originally promised to Nicole back in 2005 (five years ago!) when the film was first in development. Due to some changes in the film’s tone, they decided to bring in Selena instead.

Another reason Selena’s a better pick? She’s cheaper. Selena will cost literally millions less to employ and her popularity is high enough that the studio can still make some money off of her. Nicole Kidman was named by Forbes as one of Hollywood’s most overpaid celebrities, so I guess you do the math.

  • I never considered Nicole Kidman one of my favourite actresses or anything, but this is starting to make me feel sorry for her….

    • The last I heard, she has been segueing into production for some time now. This is not to say that I would ever accuse her of ageing gracefully, but at least she seems to realize that the right thing for her career is to move toward a behind-the-scenes approach (particularly if she’s not willing to just act her age).

So don’t feel too sorry for her. She may not be an ingenue anymore, but she’s still doing all right. (Monetarily. Physically, she really needs to cool it for her face’s sake.)

  • Is there really a scenario that has a movie studio choosing between Nicole Kidman and Selena Gomez for a movie role?
This has ‘bad movie’ written all over it. “Let’s buy the rights to a well-received novel and make a movie “based” on that novel with a movie plot and characters that are completely different from the novel. Oh, and our movie should ideally feature a Disney girl, but not Miley Cyrus, because she’s too expensive.”
In unrelated news, the lottery numbers on the linked source page did not work out for me.

  • Hotter, younger, prettier, still has her real face (or at least more of it than Nicole Kidman), and willing to work for a lot less — sounds like a no brainer to me.

  • Ouch! This has to hurt. I still can’t get over Nicole’s performance in “To Die For,” years ago.
If it’s one thing that the ‘Disney girls’ are known for is pretty face and no talent for major pictures and televison shows beyond ‘bubble gummers.’ This could back fire on Selena Gomez as well.

  • I would watch a movie that Nicole Kidman plays in ANY DAY over watchig annoying Selena Gomez.

  • funny, if i had heard there was a new movie out with Kidman in it I would automatically look into it and most likely see it.
Selena Gomez??? not so much, what the hell has she done to warrant herself as a replacement for someone like Kidman?

Money aside, the switch seems bizarre, especially with so many qualified actors that would have also been cheaper.

  • This movie sounds so bad.
As a fan of Nicole Kidman’s work (say what you want about her, she is one of the best and most interesting actresses out there, just watch Dogville, Birth, The Others or Margot at the Wedding), I’m glad she’s not doing this one.
And it’s not like she isn’t getting juicy roles these days: she has two very interesting movies with great roles coming up (Rabbit Hole or The Danish Girl).
Also, Kidman was named Hollywood most overpaid actress in 2006 (4 years ago!). Maybe it’s time to move on and stop trashing her? Since then, Cate Blanchett, Jim Carrey, Leonardo Di Caprio and Ewan McGregor have been named most overpaid by Forbes. How come they are not trashed like Kidman is?
And honestly, who cares about Selena Gomez, really? I don’t even know who she is. This movie will probably go straight to DVD.
