Work It, Girl!

Chloe Marshall Miss Surrey in Miss England Beauty Pageant, Bikini Pictures, Photos

chloe_bikini.jpg

Here’s Chloe Marshall, the size 16 Miss England contestant who’s been getting all sorts of attention lately, in the pageant’s bikini photo call.

It’s a cute Cinderella story, that’s for sure, but I’d be lying if I said I looked at this girl and saw physical beauty. Does that mean she is not a kind, intelligent, valuable human being? No, absolutely not. Does she really have a place in the Miss England beauty pageant? I don’t think so. Like, let’s get honest: there are plenty of awards to be won in this world for kindness and intelligence and making other important contributions to society. And then there are beauty pageants. And I don’t think everyone has to be anorexic, but there are very healthy ways, through diet and exercise, to achieve a body in line with our society’s definition of beauty. This girl does not have a proportional body, and has clearly not gone to much of an effort to achieve one, so why does she get to compete in the Miss England pageant? Are we giving a posthumous Nobel Peace Prize to Saddam Hussein, just to prove that there are many different interpretations of “peace”? No, we’re not, because we, as the Western World, have come to a general consensus on what defines “peace,” and Saddam Hussein’s actions don’t fit into that, so we’re not going to award him a peace prize. Similarly, we’ve come to a general consensus on what defines beauty (you think these bikini pictures are going to end up on posters on the walls of teenage boys?), and beauty pageants ought to be judged as such. Just my two cents.

But props to her for having the courage to be there as a role model and take all the press, good and bad, that comes along with it.

  • There’s a guy at the grocery store right now squeezing soft cantaloupes because of her.

  • I agree with you. It’s all cool and all, but as you say, those pageants are about beauty and she doesn’t belong there.

And also, is she 7 feet tall?? There’s something…weird about her body. It’s not the chubbiness, it’s…..weird.

  • Well, since Yasser Arafat’s already received a Nobel Peace Prize, giving one to Saddam Hussein is really not all that much of a stretch.
Anyhow, the girl is very pretty, and would look amazing clothed.

  • Is the girl on the elevator laughing at her??

PS- get over yourself. Maybe she is pretty. Maybe she’s making a statement; which is great.

It’s one thing for you to sit on your own fat ass and shit-talk celebrities who act like idiots – stick to that.

  • That there is some STRENGTH. See how the girl in the back is laughing at her? She must’ve been getting that shit all her life.

  • At least she looks like she’s eaten in the past 10 years.
    Props to that.

    Lookin’ good honey ♥

  • “…and has clearly not gone to much of an effort to achieve one, so why does she get to compete in the Miss England pageant?”

Fuck you. I am overweight, and believe me I HAVE TRIED, I HAVE PUT IN EFFORT. EFFORT is not the only thing needed to lose weight. You may think I am “ugly” on the outside because I am overweight, but this post just proves how ugly your are on the inside. Screw you.

  • “…and has clearly not gone to much of an effort to achieve one, so why does she get to compete in the Miss England pageant?”

soo…I’m a size 16 and I have done everything in the book to lose weight. My problem? Polycystic Ovarian Dx. Unless you called her and specifically asked her if she has tried to lose weight, then you are just as bad as those bloggers that say untrue things about celebrities…I thought you were bettr than Perez?

  • No one is fat because they eat too many fruits and veggies, they are fat cause they eat too much butter and bacon. Work out, girl!

  • You’re a hypocrite! You give her props for having the courage and self confidence to compete in a pageant like that, ( with girls who are “conventionally” more beautiful, because, I may add, of the standards society has placed on women), and you give her props after you yourself have insulted her and her appearance. She is there because she thinks she is beautiful just the way she is, and critisizing her appearance and saying she doesn’t work to be beautiful is NOT supporting her to “work it” as the title of your post suggests.

  • She’s strong and proud, to go out there and get judged and criticize by people who are closed mined without thinking about the whole situation or how that person may feel. I’ve known many people, many close friends, who are over weight. A lot of my family is the same way. Some do care and try their hardest to lose the weight, other don’t. But the ones who do end up finding that it’s something medical and work hard and struggle everyday to try and help themselves. The ones who don’t, well, they don’t care what they think. So don’t go judging people and putting labels on all overweight people, calling them lazy, or even ugly, ’cause that girl has a pretty face and beauty is only skin deep. And you people who judge, probably don’t have a fucking clue to as what it feels like to be overweight or all the emotional and physical shit that comes along with it. So I would think twice before opening my mouth and talking bad about someone who has more courage to be a strong, leading role model for everyone.

  • blah blah blah, we have some cry babies in here.

Face the fact shes fat and fat doesnt belong in beauty pageants,

By all the crying some of you are making im pretty sure you are fat yourself and defending fat people.

    Get to the gymfatties!

  • @ Jon.

No, she may not belong in a beauty pageant in your mind, but it’s something she’s doing to raise awareness of the fact. And maybe if we all were more aware of and open minded about other people, the barriers that ‘fat’ and ‘beauty’ don’t go together, could be broken. Why must everyone be judged just because of how they look? I’m also not crying out, but just defending someone who is a hell of a lot better of a person than you, and sharing my own opinion. And the last time I checked, North America was a free nation.

Ps. Oh and um, by the way, I’m a size five. Go ahead and call me fat, I really couldn’t give a fuck what you say, as long as I’m healthy, thanks.

  • It’s interesting how you mention that society’s views don’t accept her as being attractive. If this were the Renaissance, she would be considered gorgeous. This just goes to show how much people let the media influence them.

  • Actually, Beet wasn’t insulting in her post, but you people sure are in your responses. All she said is that this woman doesn’t quite belong in a beauty pageant, which she doesn’t. I too think that she’s brave to be doing it, and it’s a wonderful thing that she accepts herself the way she is, but alas, that’s not what beauty pageants are about.

They’re shallow and they promote unrealistic standards, blah blah blah, yes indeed, they are, and it’s their nature.

  • I think she is beatiful enough for a beauty pageant, and I dont see that her body is not proportioned. So now we have to have seperate beauty pageants for women not a size 2. If plus sized women can be called a model, and look way better than you, why not a beauty pageant contestant. I dont think you meet societies definition of beauty either so…

  • isn’t it funny that the average woman in the US is a size 14…..

this girl isn’t that much larger than the average woman

    props to her!

  • sei una testa di cazzo di proporzioni bibliche. non leggerò mai più il tuo blog. fatti aspirare il grasso nel cervello magra puttana.

  • She is a damn sight more beautiful than the ‘conventional’ horseface behind her. Now THAT girl got into the competition because of her body, not her beauty. The chubby girl looks perfectly healthy. Congrats on perpetuating all the shit that comes along with fucked up body image.

Well that’s sad. If you were a shopowner, I wouldn’t shop at your store anymore, but since this is the age of clicking, I can’t click on your page anymore.

  • From reading these post I see why so many people are FAT. It’s a victim mentality, “I try” “I am a good person” I’m pretty on the inside” I’m healthy.” And you will probably spend a lot of time in a hospital as you get older. Good luck all you “healthy people.”

  • It looks as though the lady in the background of the first pic is laughing at her and not with her.

  • No matter what the size, be nice. Be healthy. We’re all people here, just reading some trash on skanky celebrities, not a British girl who is “violating” current western conventions. Let’s keep it that way.

By the way, I’m a size 6, if that makes me any more legitimate.

  • EXACTLY. Read what uyser “Really” said he tells the truth.

I work hard to stay healthy and i watch what i eat.

It’s bullshit how most women are fat now. You are not healthy, you may think you are but really you’re not.

Start working hard at keeping yourself in shape fatties,

  • You need to pay more attention to whats going on around you. You believe all this body image hype that has been ingrained in your head since you were old enough to suck on your thumb. Its time to wake up and figure out whats more important: Pointing out the fact that you think she is fat, or pointing out the fact that it’s awesome that things are begining to change a bit for women out there.

  • She has a beautiful face && unlike many stick-thin beauty pagent contestants she looks like an actual person. So, I wish the best for her.

  • and I know I wrote the 1st comment saying some guys like cantaloupes, blah blah blah, but I just wrote it b/c I thought a bunch of other people were gonna put her down after me. I didn’t expect so many to defend her.

seriously you guys, I mean, she needs to get her butt to the gym. eat less. move more. “beet”, “jon”, “really” and “try harder” got it right.

  • as a matter of fact, i PREFER girls of about her weight and body composition. i don’t like bony girls. or even what you define as a “normal” weight. just because they’re a standard doesn’t mean it’s right. i’m disappointed. this girl isn’t fat. she’s not skinny. but she’s not fat.

  • Inherent in participating in a pageant is that you will BE JUDGED. She opened herself up to any and all comments, including these.

By the way, I’m a size 16, if that makes me any more legitimate. I MEANT SIX, I am a size 6 Dammit!!! I am so Not Average.

  • i think she has a pretty face. she just needs to lose wait. and the bitches in the back laughing are bothering me. props to this girl for having the guts to do this.

  • I say go girl! Society is so un-accepting of how REAL women look like. I’m tired of feeling insecure because I don’t look like what society deems to be a beautiful woman. We are all different people. I wish society was more accepting of all different kinds of beauty instead of portrying one unrealistic standard of what a beautiful woman is supposed to look like. It’s true that looks are everything but to what extent do looks have to rule the way you live and feel about yourself? Especially when you can’t change some things about you! Almost 1/2 of America is overweight! Look at our portion sizes then go to a 3rd world country. You will be shocked with what a large pizza size is in America compared to a large pizza size in a 3rd world country.

  • ii saw her and thought she is very pretty and her body DOES look proportionit! you just jealous cuz she has the balls to show her body and know she looks good

  • Ok heres wat i gots to say about this. one point is she shouldnt be there cuz shes bigger. And the other is she is cofidnet about herself and is able to go out there and support all the other girls and guys out there that dont have the guts to do this!!! i say she could really leave a mark on the way people see people.

  • Beauty comes in all shapes and forms.

According to your argument, she must be a fabulous person on the inside since she does not meet your standards of beauty on the outside.

Since when do only the skinny chicks get to be stupid and mean?

Since when do all the chubby chicks have a mandatory “nice” clause?

    Beatuy fades. Stupid is forever.

Keep that in mind the next time you say no to a bowl of ice cream that you really want or spend too much money on a designer lipstick.

You are a condescending little snot rag and I’m very disappointed.

isn’t it funny that the average woman in the US is a size 14…..

    props to her!”

Actually, a UK size 16 is a US size 12!

Anyways, I think she’s pretty. There’s a whole contingent of guys that like big girls and can’t admit to it because society looks down on that stuff.

  • have you ever seen a fat person who eats healthily and exercises regularly? NO.

‘i’ve tried everything.. blah blah blah…’ – you clearly haven’t because you’re still fat. so try harder and get over yourself.

fat people don’t care about my feelings when i turn down cake for the sake of my figure, so why should i care about their feelings when they complain about their weight because they DID eat cake?

sure, she has a pretty face. but no, she hasn’t put any effort in to look good, body wise. she doesn’t deserve to be there. and with the whole ‘girl power! celebrate your curves!’ movement going on (since when was fatness synonymous with girl power?), everyone overlooks the fact that she is overweight, UNHEALTHY, and is probably cutting years off her life with her current eat-anything, sedentary lifestyle.

  • jude, how do you she is unhealthy? she may be healthier then the person that did turn down the cake, and takes laxatives and weight loss pills left and right. how do you know she doean’t work out? you just jealous and mean because you didn’t have the cake and you’re shitting yourself because you can taste it so bad, and then when 12am rolls around you head to your fridge and pig out hardcore, and then you feel guilty……….yeah you’re REAL healthy! LOLOLOLOL

  • horse….what makes you the pagent police, why do you get to decide who “belongs” anywhere? you idiot

  • Pageants are for attractive and slim people, that’s who belongs on pageants. Not misshapen chicks who seem to have received a visit from a head-shrinker shaman. I don’t get to decide, sweetheart, society does, mmm?

  • Horse, i’m part of the “society” and i think she DOES belong there. quit being a hater.

  • I am a US size 8 mother of three
I’ve never been as fat as this girl
    she is fat
she is doing what she felt like doing
she’s happy she did it, apparently
    no crime involved
    no problem

  • She’s fat. Not for a second does she belong there. We are also talking about a beauty pageant. There’s nothing “girl power” about a beauty pageant. It’s women who are willingly allowing themselves to be judged by others based on their looks.

She wants to be judged, I’ll judge her. She’s fat. I don’t care if the national average is 14 or 16 or whatever, that doesn’t make it right. Canada’s not much better but I’m shocked when I go to the States and see the portion sizes, it’d ridiculous.

And I’m sorry but REAL women are not size 16s. It’s not healthy. Just because you and the other women in your office are that size, doesn’t make you the standard.

She’s not brave, she’s misguided. She’s no different than the delusional bad singers that go on American Idol and Simon crushes their dreams.

And just because someone is thin and attractive, it doesn’t make them a horrible person. Just like if someone is fat and ugly, doesn’t make them really nice. I’ve known plenty of nice good looking people and I’ve known plenty of awful fat people.

Stop enabling. Bravo to the poster above who called it a society of victims.

  • if the average woman in the us is a size 14 then they are bigger than this girl, she is a uk 16 which is about a us 12.

  • Im annoyed at how the trend nowadays is to call obesity “real beauty”. Anorexia isnt pretty either, but there is a middle ground between the two you know. Funny how so many people here are happily condemning the women who throw up their food and take laxatives, but applaud the people who eat too much cake and dont exercise.

Eating disorders are bad all around, kids.

  • She is really beautiful. I personally wouldn’t have the courage to wear a two piece if I were in her shoes, but I guess that’s her way of saying fuck-off to all the critics.

It’s about time we challenged the commercial standard of beauty. I never got what was so hot about the “heroin chic” look anyway…

  • She’s overweight. It’s very very simple… she’s also very oddly shaped, her head and top half look about 80% of the size they need to be to balance the bottom half.

Having the balls to go out there doesn’t mean she belongs there.

  • “And you will probably spend a lot of time in a hospital as you get older. Good luck all you “healthy people.”

Well, about 1/3 of the people in my family are overweight, or fat, but none of them has actually had to go to the hospital for it. The person who has been hospitalised most is actually my uncle, he’s 50 years old and a biker who has now had a both of his kneecaps replaced, has broken his arm after falling off of his bike once and has spent last Christmas in the hospital after an emergency surgery as an artery in his leg was about to blow. So, just saying, sport and healthy food isn’t a guarantee to keep you out of the hospital either.

  • I cant beleive that after this long, people like you, you fucking little bitch, would have the nerve to write somthing about how a girl who is not “thin in societys eyes” has no place in a beauty pagent. After so many people have been hurt and become sick just to be skinny (or as you put it, “achieve a body in line with our society’s definition of beauty”), you would dare go on record with your opinions. Its nasty, miserable people like who who are fucking this world up. Who gives a fuck what society thinks, tall fat skinny short white black WHO FUCKING CARES. Unhappy pathetic c.u.n.t.s. like you are what has ruined this world. Do you really think that just becasue you have some stupid little website you have the right to trash people. How would u like it if people made fun of your nasty fucking fat mother? Hope this site gets shut down on account of you being a dumbass whore. Or even funnier would be that you still get up everyday and update this crap, like as if people give a shit about you. Have a miserable day, thats all u deserve.

  • Why are you all mad because she is speaking the truth? Sorry that’s just how it is. Beet didn’t take a picture of a large woman on the street and put her on blast. This woman is in a beauty pageant and like it or not there are standards there. This woman is beautiful in her own way, but she is kidding herself if she thinks she is there as anything more than a novelty contestant. Sort of like the larger girls that are on “America’s Next Top Model”. Tyra sure preaches a good game about changing views on beauty standards in America, but has one of those girls ever won? I hope that she walks away from this experience with as much confidence and self worth as she went in with is all I can say. To people on here talking about how “being overweight is OK,” well 87% of people who are 15% or more over their average BMI have respiration and heart problems. Being someone that was very over weight in the past, and now works in the fitness/health field I can tell you there is no secret to losing weight. All it takes is hard, HARD work and the utmost determination. You can sit there and come up with every excuse in the book from your metabolism to you health condition. Honey, put down the cookie and get you ass of the couch. This is the realization that I had to make about myself. It’s not going to be easy, but it will be worth it and not worth it to fit societies standards but worth it to your health.

  • strwhat, first off i never sed obsity is beautiful! and this woman is not obese either, she is overweight, but does that mean she doesn’t workout? does that mean that she isn’t into taking care of her body? no it doesn’t, in case you missed it, people are all different. i wasn’t applauding the person that fukin eats cake and sits on the couch all day and then one day gets up and sez “oh fuck, how did i get so fat?” i love to exercise, but guess what i eat cake too.

  • gawd, priscilla, we get it, ur a LARD ASS. now go shove some more cake in ur chubby jowls and shut up!!!!!!!

  • What if…
This girl used to be 137lbs heavier and due to the recent death of her obese mother she decided to make a change in her life.
    And what if…
She spent the last 8 months eating healthy, working out, etc… just to get down to a size 16.

Would everyone still have the same feelings/comments about her?

It appears that a lot of you people are extremelly shallow (which is not suprising in today’s society). You take a photograph of a real human being and bash it all to hell. You know she’s overweight. I know she’s overweight. Even she probably knows that she’s overweight. But do we really feel the need to post it all over the internet? What does that do? Does that make you feel better about yourself?

Again, these were all “what if’s”. I don’t know her. I don’t know anything about her. She could be a complete asshole for all I know. I just thought I would try to shed some light…

  • This is for beth quote
“that you think she is fat, or pointing out the fact that it’s awesome that things are begining to change a bit for women out there.”

This is a bad change, this is pathetic, Have you seen or read about life back back back way back then. Do you see any fat women? Surely not as many as this day in age. Why?? Because women back then are not lazy fucks, They didn’t more physical work and actually did something. Women now a days eat to much and do less and less work.

I will no accept fat women ever. Because with hard work and dedication. Even getting off your damn tv for half hour and walking, will truly do something for your figure and health.

    Peroid.

  • I think she’s absolutely gorgeous!

And for those who are making lame comments…get stripped, go out: half naked on the streets….and then let’s see what comes to mind…..

  • Horse Marine: Every person is a part of society- we all shape it. I get that society as a whole can be hard to change, especially for the better, but to say that you have no part of it “it’s just the way it is” is rather like the whole proverbial “burying your head in the sand” bit….

Well, that’s just as ridiculous to post. I often refrain from eating lots of sugar. I’ve cut WAY back on eating Smarties (sugar pills, I call ’em), don’t eat Skittles anymore, cut back on drinking soda, am working on finding low-sugar (read:natural, not w/ sugar replacements) yogurt. To say that I do all that, and then can’t help myself and go crazy eating what I’ve resisted later and then feel guilty? Sure, you didn’t mean me, personally, but same difference about Beet posting about this. Bunch of people took exception to her comments, which really ARE supportive. She’s just calling it like it is. It IS a fact that society as a whole does not find fat attractive, in the context of a beauty pageant, and she DID give props to her being brave or whatever.
I do eat choc. chip cookies, donuts and ice cream- my main three weaknesses, when it comes to food. However, I don’t eat it whenever I FEEL like it. When I DO eat it, I ~don’t~ feel guilty- I enjoy it!

I think there’s a bit of truth on both sides. There are people who do try quite hard to get rid of excess weight. Some of it really is that they simply have not put out ~enough~ effort, LONG enough, combined with certain changes in diet- not just what most think it “the way” to do it, either. Everyone is different. Some people can eat TONS of carbs, and that won’t be what is making them less healthy. Every BODY is different, and every body processes food differently. And getting rid of the extra weight is also done successfully, differently.
You have those who DO have some sort of medical issue, and that is simply the way it’s going to be. Either something wrong with their body CAUSES the weight, or they have to take meds for something else, and the MEDS cause the weight gain- diet will not always be the factor. Though I would say those people need to be quite careful about how their body handles the food they do eat.

Beet’s got it right, she’s not supporting society calling women ugly or whatever. Saying that a beauty pageant is for overweight people, in a way, is like saying that the Boy Scouts should allow girls. Or Boys in Girl Scouts.
Not that there aren’t girls who’d totally fit into certain aspects of what the boys do, or vice versa- yet it’s the BOY/GIRL scouts.
    Sorry so long….
    Eddy ~~~

  • I don’t understand why anyone can assume that the thin girls in that or any pageant are pictures of good health. They may be slim, but I’m willing to bet half of them are yakking up food regularly and/or starving themselves into a particular size. Appearance doesn’t convey everything there is to know.

  • Oooook, i agree with both sides because i mean, i get self-conscious in a bikini, and i don’t know if i could ever walk my ass out on that stage, so that’s really great that she has the balls to do that….but im also in the gym six days a week, and feel bad every time i eat a peanut m&m. being thin is easy for some people, and harder for others.

oh, and as for the girl that said “Last time I checked North America was a free nation” you fucking dumb ass. i’m pretty sure north america is a continent, i guess you’re one fat chick who isn’t smart.

ok that was rude, and i would stop, but it just came to me.

  • i also agree with you beet, beauty pagent contestants work out hard to acheive that great figure we shouldn’t appraise this fatty for doing nothing, i mean at least pick a pretty fat girl this one looks awful! there are just some things that big bitches just can not do and this is one of them…sorry

  • BEAUTY COMES ALL SHAPES AND SIZES,SHE HAS THE FACE OF AN ANGEL AND PROBABLY HAS THE HEART TO GO WITH IT.A GREAT ROLL MODEL FOR YOUNG GIRLS TODAY ,TO JUST BE YOURSELF………..

  • HEALTH, Tim, does NOT come in all shapes and sizes. This woman is fat. There are no two ways about it.

Our society has a problem with obesity. Obesity leads to major health problems. What with the US Presidential candidates all talking about providing health insurance for EVERYONE, why should MY MONEY go to pay for health care for someone who had a heart attack because SHE COULDN’T PUT DOWN THE TWINKIES!!!!!????

Those of you who are so angry and bitter and are stating how beautiful she is: Put her photo next to one of a normal young woman of a body mass index of about 24 (which isn’t at the bottom but is, rather, near the top of the healthy range) and tell me who looks prettier and healthier.

PUT DOWN THE COOKIES! STOP EATING THE BIG MACS! You’ll live longer and feel better for it.

I myself have had weight problems (about 10 pounds overweight when I was a little girl in 1965 and after the birth of my first child and recently, at age 52) but when it gets to that point, I work hard at losing weight. I feel sluggish and lazy at even 10 pounds overweight.

And please don’t tell me I know nothing about how being called fatso hurts young girls: I am a former anorexic. This in 1967 when no one knew what anorexia was.

Trust me, this woman is not the type to become overwrought at being called fat; quite the opposite. I myself WAS, obviously, the type to get upset over being called fatso and starved myself but those were different times. THESE DAYS, women are soooooooooooo empowered, right? LADIES, YOU ARE EMPOWERING YOURSELVES INTO AN EARLY GRAVE!!!!

And you all think this is OK?

  • To the idiot who commented that those criticizing this cow should themselves strip and walk outside and see who is better looking: At 52, I’m better looking. MUCH better looking. I’m not a lazy slug and I’m not overweight and my half-century-old body, riddled with arthritis though it may be, is at least toned and there aren’t rolls of fat on it.

  • Yes, optimistic, I would make the same comments about her. People go through hell all the time and may gain or lose weight accordingly, but you don’t see all of them running to become beauty contestants.

  • One thing that Americans posting on this website forget to realize is that we are judging this by American standards, sure England’s ideal of beauty is not THAT far off from ours, but do you think Chloe would win in an American Beauty Pagent? No, and that is the problem. England has a much more accepting ideal of beauty and clearly things that weight is not what makes a person who they are, but how they carry themselves as a kind, intelligent, and worth wild human being. If we want to start judging American celebrities by these standards Paris Hilton would be out of a job, and rightfully so. The blog comment you posted about Chloe not “belonging” in this pagaent is just continuing the cycle of women obsessing over their bodies and letting intelligence and personality fall to the back burner, now that doesn’t belong anywhere.

  • Is it just me? or have people forgotten the actual meaning of the word “fat”? fat means obese, not chubby, curvy, or plus size.

this girl is incredibly curvy and gorgeous, and should have the right to enter a beauty pageant. The pageant is about how beautiful you are, so you dont need to be incredibly anorexic to win!

congrats to her i hope she does well in the pageant!

  • Well, I’ve just read all the comments. I feel a bit like a masochist right now but I did it as a research for my school essay. Why are you people fighting over this when you can clearly see that no one can win? There are defending reactions against negative reactions like fifty-fifty. But only few people look at the problem without biase.
Let’s say. Is it ok to promote girls under 18,5 BMI (catwalk models) and not ok to do so with girls over 25 BMI? Who decides?
To be clear I’m not defending her but for those who say her body is not in proportion, look at the pictures again. You can see they are taken from below which makes her legs look longer.
She’s clearly a bit overweight as her BMI 25,3 confirms. I think beauty peagants shouldn’t promote neither underweight nor overweight girls. This girl, however, looks happy and full of energy and positive and I like her appearance because it’s the only thing I can judge from the picture.
Everyone should have a choice what they like and who they like. Don’t fight too much over things which are not that important.
As for myself, I’m US size 8-10, trying to control myself a little bit and exercise a bit. Sometimes I’m confident, sometimes I’m not, sometimes I care, sometimes I don’t.
I learnt a lot from this discussion thou. x

  • Why all the debate about “she shouldn’t be there”. She was there and she won. She beat all the other women. Not only did she deserve to be there but she came out on top. And I wouldn’t mind her on top myself.

  • i don’t think the question should be about whether her being larger is a problem or not.
the question is, why, after all this time, do we still have, value, and follow beauty pageants?

clearly, honoring skinny communications majors is not everyone’s idea of an appropriate award to an ideal woman.

  • Unless any of you look at her medical records, you have no idea how healthy she actually is. Yes, beign obese can lead to serious medical issues and yes, begin underweight can too. There is nothing “empowering” about a beauty pageant – I don’t care how fat of skinny you are. I think her legs look a little thick (although that might be the result of poorly chosen shoes – YUCK!), but the rest of her has a very nice shape. I think she’s very pretty, especially in the face. The people that belong in beauty pageants are the ones that are selected by the panels that run them. If the panel is judging beauty then who they let in them must fall into the panel’s category of “beauty”. The one that should really be questioned as to whether she belongs in a beauty pageant is the hideous horse-faced girl standing behind her.

  • Shut up 2 the author of this article. Beauty competition isnt about your size. Look at her, shes really beautiful, theres no doubt she could be proud of herself. But also theres no doubt you’d have to try to be more honest:)

  • Chubby women can be super hot and sexy. But this girl is no woman, she’s only 16.
Somebody said that her body looks weird. it does! because she’s just a girl and needs to machure to really be sexy.

  • Finding her beautiful can be described as fetish
    She is FAT, 80kg 1,80
Even a normal girl (not fat but not a model either) should be around 70.
FFS i am 70kg and im taller than her

  • I really am tired of this culture we’re developing of fat acceptance.

This bullshit about how “a real woman looks.” Fat may be how real women are starting to look, but I know plenty of real women who aren’t fat. It’s a given that our bodies have adapted biologically to store fat because millenia ago there wasn’t always enough food. But our bodies aren’t suited to actually carrying that weight long term, so it is obvious that obesity is a serious health concern.

I’m not advocating everyone look like some Calvin Klein model, but encouraging positive body image to fat people is pointless. Instead, the focus should be on encouraging positive lifestyle choices to make them healthy. Unfortunately, the idea being thin and fit has been linked inextricably to sexual appeal. Which I guess isn’t a bad thing, since I like my women tall and skinny, heh.

But now TV shows tell women it is okay to be heavy because you can still be sexy, forgetting the message that you should also want to be healthier.

Like it was said, nobody ever got fat by taking in fewer calories than they expend. There are a million excuses, but I’ve had friends who made the real effort and got the real results. Those who make the excuses get nothing.

I also find it entertaining to hear her say she is comfortable with herself, and yet still wears a sarong in the bikini contest.

  • well i cant see you making the finals like she has, stop being so bitter and stop criticising such a beautiful person who is giving teenage girls hope that they dont have to be anorexic to be beautiful!

  • Onoes!!!! Our culture is developing “fat acceptance!” Such a blow to humanity!!

People who are unwilling to embrace “fat acceptance” are about as full of themselves as racists, heterosexists, and those who propogate religious intolerance. Seriously, get over yourself and your elitist BS. You’re not better than anyone else.

  • I know some of the most vile and evil people on earth and they are skinny so they are basically excused for anything. One of my best friends is overweight, she is the nicest person I know, literally, she is an angel and people yell ‘fatty’ out on the street to her. She eats smart but she has a thyroid problem. This of course means that she is a lazy slob who needs to go purge in the bathroom after every meal to make her socially acceptable to you all.
I used to be a size 14. Now I’m a size 4. And fuck, it took me a LONG time and a horse to become one.
I was overweight all my life and had been trying to lose it since I was 12. One year, I spent four months going to the gym, five times a week for an hour each day, ate nothing but vegetables and protein. God as my witness, I only lost 5 lbs (I’m pretty sure it was water weight) and gained it back within two weeks of giving up. I fished out money on LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers and nearly went bankrupt on Jenny Craig (which I could only afford for 3 weeks). The doctor said my genes from my paternal side made me heavier than most girls and told me to keep going to the gym but basically, live with my 180 lb frame.
When I was 23, my dad died and I lost 60 lbs. It went away in a blink. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep. I lost it all.
It wasn’t until I lost weight till I realized how fat people are mistreated. Things people would never say to my face when I was fat were said to me about other people in front of me and I couldn’t feel more disgusted because I tried so hard to lose the weight and how do I know these girls weren’t doing the same?
So next time, instead of telling a fat girl to go to the gym, why don’t you ask your mum to kill herself or something? Otherwise, just shut your mouth.

  • I found this girl on a previous search to find out what kind of body i want…I’m a size 18…and i see that this girl is a 16. shes absolutly beautiful and my bf agree’s. I would like to be about her size. i need to lose some, and tone up but i think shes a beautiful girl and shes brave for doing that. I admire her for being in pagents. right now…shes my inspiration..

  • Ok well first off I find that beauty pageants are really stupid to start off with… The whole highheeled princess crown thing annoys me… But this is an interesting article. Lets think about this. Most of the people on this page agree that “healthy is beautiful”. I’m no doctor, but none of those girls look extremely healthy. If we were judging by the healthiest, neither Chloe Marshall or the typical skinny stick figures that usually win beauty pageants should be paraded around in bikinis.
The Summer Olympics are on this summer…. Anyone watch the the track and field or the swimming trials? Now those are truly beautiful women… Strong and confident in themselves, and extremely healthy. But beauty pageants never show muscley women do they? Lets admire the real beauty in them!
From – a skinny swimmer with no huge “coconuts” haha, but STRONG and HEALTHY! Not a typical teenage girl…

  • Ok wow I totally agree with “Active and an Athelte” (I think you mean athlete?!?!)
Also – l feel the need to point out something that alot of hysterical people are typing on this discussion…
WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU ARE LIKE AS A PERSON!
Skinny people are not all mean, bitchy, throw-up-after-dinner people as some of the posts suggest.
Also – fat (whatever your definition of fat is) people are not all lazy and gluttonous slobs as some of the posts suggest.
What is with all these stereotypes? Be nice! And a message to Mora – I’m sorry if you have ever been mistreated, and I’m sorry to hear about your dad. But everybody on this post is fighting their own battles, and their bodies take a toll as well.

  • That’s just it. They are society’s standards. If women like her participated in beauty contests for the next 20 years and the skinny girls stopped, then society’s concept of beauty would change. Rest assured that the woman is beautiful to somebody and damn society for trying to impose a level of beauty unachievable by some.

  • 403forbidden said it all. Society has now decided that skinny is beautiful – this girl entering the contest may cause a shift.

It’s interesting that most of the girls insulting Chloe Marshall then go on to proclaim that they’re thin, presumably in the hopes of attracting the attention of some of the men here. That’s the saddest thing of all, really. That women – of any size – think getting a man is all tied up with how we look. And it really isn’t. Being skinny and unpleasant will get you a man like Jon or Steve, but it won’t necessarily get you a man who will support you and love you – size has very little to do with that.

The actual article was just an arrogant side-swipe, and adds very little to this entire debate.

  • Um… not to burst anyone’s bubble or anything but I’ve seem a lot of studies that prove that many ‘skinny’ people whether they are naturally skinny or whatever have more internal fat around their organs than say a size 16 woman who has abit of flab on the outside, in the end internal fat is more dangerous.
The point is some people can eat cake and not put any weight on , so they look thin and supposedly healthy but that might not be the case on the inside.
I think thin girls can be beautiful, as can the larger shape. But don’t automatically assume that fat girls are unhealthy… to me she looks healthy but thats my opinion…

  • I just can’t believe that people can actually think Chloe is not beautiful. I am afraid that young men today have been educated by the media as to what is attractive and what is not. Any form of shape is seen as being overweight. In reality, the skinny size 8 woman we see today actually has a figure that 40 years ago would have been seen as a child’s figure.
For cenuries we have been praising shapely figures until we got the androgynous Twiggy look of the late 1960’s.
We seem to be getting into that dangerous area where women are supposed to have the figures of 12 year olds and shave off any body hair so they definitely look like 12 year olds!! It’s all getting a bit paedo and creepy for me!!

  • I am a 5ft 11, 9st male with a 30 inch waist and I can tell you that that girl is gorgeous and if I found anyone like her I’d marry her like a shot. How can anyone say she doesn’t belong in a beauty contest, she’s beatuful and more voluptuous or curvy than actually fat. She’s not obese, I doubt her health is seriously endangered and she looks astoundingly sexy.

  • Beauty pagents are about more than being thin. It’s about who you are as a person. Chloe Marshall is a role model for young women everywhere that you shouldn’t let the small things stop you. It is sad to read so many comments that say such hurtful and ignorant things that really aren’t all true. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but one needs to be more educated about certain topics before they slam someone for being different. For all those who think Ms. Marshall isn’t pagent contest material, she must be because she did make it to be Miss England. And Chloe Marshall, if you ever read this, I’m sorry for all of the Ignorant slander that some people on this page have written. Good luck in life and I thank you for being such a great role model and giving me the strength to love myself for who I am.

One thing that Americans posting on this website forget to realize is that we are judging this by American standards, sure England’s ideal of beauty is not THAT far off from ours, but do you think Chloe would win in an American Beauty Pagent? No, and that is the problem. England has a much more accepting ideal of beauty and clearly things that weight is not what makes a person who they are, but how they carry themselves as a kind, intelligent, and worth wild human being. If we want to start judging American celebrities by these standards Paris Hilton would be out of a job, and rightfully so. The blog comment you posted about Chloe not “belonging” in this pagaent is just continuing the cycle of women obsessing over their bodies and letting intelligence and personality fall to the back burner, now that doesn’t belong anywhere.”

Being a European who lives in America. I’d have to agree, and its now just England. I think that even all European countries with the exceptions of a few countries (the french)… accept the way people look with out criticism. When I go back to Europe every year, not only is the society different, but so is the way people think and judge, as well as their lifestyles are a-lot less stressed than they are here in America, and a lot less work driven!

The Media and Hollywood influences too many dumb asses here who starve themselves and believe they are healthy. And being a man it turns me off, now I’m not fat, im 5″ 11″ at the age of 16 and I weight 132 LB which is about 14 pounds underweight for the true healthy weight. But I have a high metabolism and that combined with the fact that Im still growing results in me gaining weight less. Now when I see some of my friends who refuse to eat and are throwing up, with early signs of bulimia, it frightens.

I believe Spain did the right thing when they put a limit on the minimum weight of a model….! And the stupid girls who are starving them selves and putting on pounds of make up to look the weight Hollywood and some fashion designer who has no interest in the their customers health but does care about them spending money on their product so he or she can make cash, shoves into the girls mind… its ridiculous…. its stupid and their going to pay for it with their lives!!!!

Also, most people here forget that Obesity can be associated with a medical issue and they automatically think that its from eating too much and being lazy.

In conclusion, I agree that European views of society are at least a bit more different than they are here in America, where anorexic zoombie teens worship the size 3 super model, actor or cover girl….!

Its disgusting, and I am glad that this girl is trying out for the pagent.

And I hope that bitch in the elevator some day become so sick she becomes obese and then she will she how she liked it.

  • Well, I’m glad there aren’t too many dill holes here*cough* jon *cough*

confidence = the sexiest thing in the world

    Hi Mami! :D

  • marilyn monroe wore a size 12-14 dress.

yes, beauty pageants are terrible things where women are judged by their body.
she’s a beautiful woman, although a bit big.
men don’t like women who are too small, there’s nothing sexy about a skeleton.
heck, she probably doesn’t belong in a pageant, but that doesn’t mean she’s any less gorgeous.
I’m not having a cry, I’m defending her right to be large
I’m not fat, I go to the gym three times a week, play a team sport, i eat three meals a day, and i eat my fruit and vegetables.
I do not have many large friends, but they sure as hell eat healthier than my skinny ones.

no, women are not trophies that you display on a shelf, they should keep pride in their appearance, but not to the extent of becoming a stick.

  • So let me get this straight: I’m fat (I’m a size 16) because I’m lazy and eat too much bacon.

But yet… I don’t eat bacon. Hell, I don’t even eat meat! I go to the gym 5 days a week, and I work a HIGHLY physical job as a wildlife biologist.

I’m fat because I have a disease, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). I bet I could outhike any one of those skinny bitches.

And the big chick? MUCH better knockers than any barbie there. I’d hit it, and I’m straight.

  • I think she is well pretty.
How can you call her fat or obise?
i think she looks healthy, she doesnt have stretch marks or anything.
Im a size 10 so no im not fat.
But we need more girls like chloe because she is a role model, she should be on the beach with a figue like that.
I fuckin hate pricks who think paris hilton is like a god.
    And im proud of her.
I wish i looked as healthy as her

  • i’ve seen a picture of her in the right clothes and she looks AMAZING!
she even gives me hope that i, a size 14 can acctually look good, and if that is what her intention for entering the competition was then good for her, and she has made a change in my mind and hopefully has for others too

  • the reason she’s smaller on top and larger on the bottom is she’s a pear shape, thats just the way she was born, would it be better if she was an hourglass figure and had a tiny waist? this is about celebrating any womans shape, whether apple, bear, banana or hourglass

  • I think she’s just beautyfull. Maybe she has a few pounds too much, but that doesn’t make her ugly. She has a really pretty face. Your weight doesn’t provide if you’re pretty or not, but weighting too much is a problem for your health. So woman or man can also look good when they have a big size.

  • Im pear shaped and I DO NOT look like that.
She claims she weighs less than me, and she’s my height, but i am two bra sizes and about three dress sizes smaller than her as well.
All I can think is someone is lying about their weight, and it certianly isnt me.

Also… Take a look at those cankles.
Diet and exercise is the key… and this woman definatly doesn’t do either. Its fine to shove your face with junk and be happy, but don’t please dont wear a bikini.

    • @Laurie:
“cankles”?! Are you serious? Now that I look, there’s nothing wrong with her ankles. I’m a straight guy, and I think she’s got the most amazing legs I’ve ever seen on a woman in a beauty contest. *Love* her thighs! She has every right to wear a bikini, and she looks great in one.
It’s highly unlikely that Chloe “shoves her face with junk”. I know many big girls, and know only 1 that is a junk food addict. Most are simply built big, and for that, I’m thankful. Big girls are adorably cute.
You sound very angry for some reason. Jealousy perhaps?

  • This girl is obese.
She’s just a fat girl begging for attention, and she needs to let a real competitor be there… What a waste of the judges’ time.
Just because you’d do her doesn’t mean she belongs in a beauty pageant.

  • I think this girl is very pretty. She’s healthy, that’s for sure, but she doesn’t fit the “pageant standard” competitor. Props to her for getting out there in a bikini and showing all that confidence, but a bikini contest in a pageant’s not really the place for that. It’s kinda like a slap in the face for the other girls because they do work hard to get in shape and I’m sure she doesn’t have a “condition” to explain her weight – she doesn’t look like she works out – she just wants to show the world that a heavier set curvy girl has the guts to get out there and compete. Good for her! I’ve been in pageants before where curvy girls competed, and though off stage guys “would bang them,” when they see them on stage they gawk. That’s the cold hard truth and I’ve seen it many many times before.

  • Pageants are a waste of time
    and before you ask
    no i am not fat
    but nor is she
beauty ranges so to be told you don’t fit the criteria is arrogant
    people are people
and i understand they go in them to be judged and she obviously has the confidence in her body to do so
so stfu and get over yourselves

  • I;m a size 16 and iv had a little girl. Im sick of feeling ugly bcuz im not “the right size” its sickening. This girl is stunning and years ago way back in the victorian times u were sed to be gorgeous the fatter u were as fatter meant u were rich and had more money for food. U see we believe wat we r told to believe if the media told us tomorrow that having no teeth was sexy we wud agree. How many times has a new trend cum out and uv sed o my god id never wear that only to find urself buying it a few months later? The ones who know what true beauty is r the smart ones we really look like idiots in comparison

  • so a slightly chubby (yet equally gorgeous) woman being in a beauty pageant is on the same level as saddam hussein and his actions?
